It's a tax write off and a huge on at that I'd think if they gathered the money under their business then gave it to a foundation so it pays for itself really :\
@jonasdrejerjensen they dont force you to pay for pets.!!! they have more than 100 pets that you can easyly obtain in game without having to pay on the store !!!! you dont want to pay to get companions ...JUST DONT BUY THEM no need to complain!!! yes its a marketing thing and everybody knows it but somme ppl love it and blizzard need to please them too ...its not just about you :) or if you want a special pet ask ppl and buy it from gold !!! its not like it was rarely seen in trade chat
I love it how the pets that you pay 10 pounds for on the store are awesome and do really cool stuff like burn critters and act as a cooking fire, but the collecters edition pet is a reskinned whelp....Thanks blizz, it could at least breathe fire you lazy bastards.
not to complain but first youll have to buy the game pack and then the pre paid game card and if you want to you can buy the expansions and blizz are to cheap to give us a pet for their 6th anaversery now we have to buy them
Haha so many people have raged down below my comment....Guys if we all had one no one would use it :P I've got pets from Blizz store and people WHISPER me saying nice pet so some people enjoy it's awesomeness some people dont. And really 10$ ain't that much....
I simply call this smart business ethics. Why not sell extra vanity pets so Blizzard can make even more money? The numbers they generate monthly boggle my mind....
The pets are not required so I don't get what all this complaining about. It's a vanity item, if you want it you, you pay for it. Our subscription only pays for access to the servers, that's why services like race change cost money, because it's not required to play the game. When Blizzard starts selling gear then we can have something to whine about.
I think it's silly to complain about "paying money for a pet". It supports a game you obviously enjoy playing (or you wouldn't let it eat your life). Also only a commie tells you what you should and shouldn't pay for.
Any company that can keep a game this popular after 6 years certainly must be doing something right for it's fanbase. Crybaby.
Mini Ragnaros should have been the reward for the 6th anniversary, as opposed to nothing, similar to the Onyxia minipet for the 5th? 4th? Yeah. Woulda been nice.
I think it's idiotic that the Moonkin hatchling is Faction-based ONLY.
I want the alliance version on my Horde main... but guess not.
Not paying for the tauren version, and I think Blizzard would have sold more pets if they would've allowed players to choose which version they wanted.
No pet for the 6th anniversery? They must hate us! Its not like they just completed renovated the world, adding new quests and updating lore without needing the expansion to experience it.
I wouldn't call it milking, hell all you assholes would do the exact same thing in Blizzards place, what's wrong with trying to keep the game alive? Besides maybe you should stop complaining if you hate it so much.
I believe that you should never have to pay for ESSENTIAL things. These pets are not essential, and I think that makes them perfect fodder for micro-transactions.
Really, why would I pay 10$ for a pet when I can use the money to pay for actually playing wow. I had payed 15$ for the lil KT pet as a birthday present for my BF, back when it was 15$. I found it rather silly to have to pay for a digital pet that costs the same as game time.
Share the same opinion as you TB. We all pay a subscription fee that hasn't gone down in price in 6 years. Now we are nickeled and dimed with bullshit.
I remember the joy of getting pets and mounts from dungeons, rep, quests, etc... You felt as if you were rewarded and had something special. Now like most people who buy these things are embarassed to take them out. Embarassed because they now know you blew 10$ on something worthless.
I am with TB 100 percent of course who wouldn't be he says it like it is. Now for the pets that raise money for causes I'm all in on that and plus it gives the company some good rep more of those please but all the money going towards blizz or the promotion only for a month? Now that's shady which gives the company back rep. I could also understand why people would want stuff that you have to pay for because some people just don't give a dam and all they want is something not everyone has.
the day blizzard started selling pets at the store a piece of me died inside like its not enough i pay 15 dollars a month pay tons of money for all your games but then you sell things that i deserve any ways no I'm not a entitled casual I'm just a pissed off hard core! btw bliz would make more by making you grind rep and pay millions of in game currency to get this stuff which would take 2-4 months to get a bunch of e pets giving bliz lots of your money because you subscribe to the game longer
I'm pretty into pet collecting, but I've never bought any of these pets that you buy with real money. Doesn't Blizzard make enough money from subscription fees and X-pacs? I suppose it would be different if all the money from the pets/mounts went to charity (and not just for a month), THEN I might consider buying one, since ALL the money would be going to a good cause. But I really don't want to give Blizz more money for something that should be an in-game reward or drop.
wow relly first they make u pay for all the games then they make u pay a mounthly fee then they want u to buy 2 pets for 10$ each pet if it was a free mmo then i would understand but wow isent a free game so they shoudent be allowed to take money for it everything shoud be free in game
i don't think it's needed to be a free MMO, but i think they take to much money, even if it were just 5Euro for a pet, they would probably get loads of money out of it. And as we see it doesn't look "difficult" to get that on in the game.
So my opinion is, paying money for special pets is ok, but the price is to high.
do you need money to play this game? if so that SUCKS AND IS A TOTAL RIP OFF! I mean you seriously can't play a good mmo nowadays without them sucking evey cent they can out of you and eveything else! I want to play, but I probly won't be able to cause of that crap, only trillionares can do that crap seriously! after you pay for the game in the store, THAT SHOULD BE IT!
They charge money because it's Activision Blizzard and as long as people pay money for these micro transaction items they will sell them. Bring back the real Blizzard the one before they signed there devil pact with Activision.
Well, I got 93 pets and I never bought any of them with irl money. In orther words, we pet fanatics already have shitons of pets available to us, it's not like we HAVE to pay up in order to get nice looking companions. The reason I never bought one is because none of them really attracted me that much. I'll keep collecting ingame free pets, but as soon as Blizzard makes a Lil' Hakkar pet, I'm buying it, I don't care if it's with irl $.
@ElliethTull Same here, I have over 100 pets, and my favorites are actually the ones that took some work and dedication! Like the Kirin Tor familiar, hell YES I found all those books in Dalaran!
The Moonkin Pet should be one that we buy and should always go to charity, the little Ragnaros pet should have been the 6th Anniversary pet...way to be cheap Blizzard >.>
i actully did it and ragnaros said: "son? why are you with this mortal?" and lil' ragnaros said: "i dont know! take me home!" and they both turned into a lvl 10000 and destroyed us. (F.Y.I lol jk)
I still think they should have put Lil' Rag in as the anniversary pet, instead of this crap. I was alright with the first pets but now it's just completely getting out of hand.
Sad Blizz has to nickle and dime us (just like universities). The moonkin pet is alright since it supports make-a-wish foundation but it should last longer than a stinkin' month.
i really dont mind blizz needs money we have money they know we like wow so they put stuff in that costs 10 or so dollars its nothing you really need its not like your going to basicly have to buy it at a certain point
Are they account bassed so it goes to all of you chars on all the realms or server based? Also i say that achieve points should be used to buy Pets like this. They need to be used for something more than just showing off what youve done.
I can't afford to purchase the blizzard store pets, by and large, but for the most part I don't mind if they're there. What I DO mind is the trading card pets and mounts, because if I want to get my hands on those, I can't just hand Blizzard money—I have to hand someone ELSE money, only some of which actually translates back to the company I actually want to support.
Well, either that or play RNG with RL money, and I don't really enjoy playing RNG in-game, let alone with limited funding :/
Personally I think it's mercenary. They know fine well people will be collecting and resent it, be 50/50 and end up paying. Some of the best models, like the celestial steed (made from the tears of noobs) have to be payed for. Why are they so expensive also? I'd pay a couple of quid, but 17 quid? That's a small fortune if you want them all. Disgusted personally
Personally, I have no problem with the virtual goods being sold in the store. I play many games online that use micro-transactions and I look at it this way- As long as the game company is not charging *additional* money for key, core, game-breaking items that I have to have to be able to play (aka, as a lousy example, you pay $15/mo and then, you have to pay $10 for every 10 levels you want to go above 40, or for your armor, etc) then I have no problem with paying (or not paying if I so choose)
(cont) for a luxury item. Hell, if they would give the option of paying for faction rep and/or additional mounts, I would be ALL over that. I realize that's a minority opinion, but really, most games/gaming companies are leaning more and more towards micro-transactions because they WORK, despite all the bitching. I think some people are just going to have to QQ and get over it.
I wouldn't have bought either except for the Make-a-Wish foundation part on the baby laser chicken, so I went ahead and sprung the $10 for it. It is a very high quality pet, as as of December 3rd the flower-spawning trick was working properly. I'm happy with it, and I don't feel like I completely wasted $10.
I don't agree with micro-transactions either, and the quality of the pets is no excuse. The LFD pug is one of the highest-quality pets in the game, and it's available to everyone.
im gonna do it just for the make a wish contribution part. They should do stuff like that more often, like auctioning (spectral tiger for example) people sell them on ebay anyways why dont they do it themselves and give the money they raise to charity
Blizzard really should just keep the 20% of all purchases sent to the Make a Wish foundation permanently, not just as a promotional. Me personally I don't buy in game items. i have a celestial steed on my main account but that was given to me as a birthday gift and im sorry to say it rarely gets used because of not only the in game hate but the fact it just looks really strange sometimes. it was the thought that counts at least, it was my 34th birthday =)
I honestly don't think charging for these is an issue because the purchuse is 100% optional and doesn't really affect your game, it's not like their selling teir gear or special weapons, ultimatley it's bullshit that they should have the right to charge for a bloody pet, but ultimatley it's optional and your game is unaffected if you don't buy these.
@THEWEEABOOHUNTER thats true. same can be said about the star horse; its not game breaking and totally optional. mine was a gift from a friend, yet i still wonder how come it gets so much hate even from TotalBiscuit
I think It's okay that they put the Moonkin, at least, in game - because of the charity aspects. (They raised 1.1mil to the Make a Wish foundation last year by selling the Pandaren). I don't really crave pets, but I will buy it because of said reason.
I agree with totalbiscuit 100% if it were a free mmo I would understand but its not
This is what is called Milking It probably takes a few talented people several days to make a cute model with sounds and animation costing blizzard hardly anything in return they get to sell an item that does not exist for £9 that should have been part of the game in the first place
I recall a blizz post saying people had asked for micro-transaction pets oO? (Now Im thinking those people were named Activision)
@exocd I'd agree except for the fact that these don't change the game in any way. They're purely cosmetic pets. A "premium" pet you could say as they have their own little quirks that separate them from the normal pets. If somebody is willing to pay for something like that, why not cater to that market? It's not like Bliz is saying "you HAVE to buy these or you won't be able to enjoy the game".
20 euro for the Celestial Steed is far too dear imho. The Moonkin and other pets are fairly priced if you cant afford it dont bash it if you know what I mean.
they have to get your money now because honestly they know as well as anyone who isnt among the most addicted players in the world that cataclysm will be the last xpac people actually buy
its been going downhill since bc and you all know you arent going to put up with their terrible balance for $15 a month just because you want to run around the emerald dream
my view is that selling the pets is totally acceptable because, they aren't essential for the game play they are just there to look cool and make people who don't have them jealous. As long as blizzard doesn't make gear cost money then its fine.
I think you're unwillingly advertising for these pets, TB, even though you say you don't agree with spending extra money for perks. Just by saying they're cute, you've raised my motivation to buy them by +1 (not enough to get me to buy 'em tho :P)
I don't think it's fair that some countries get lower priced items than other countries, but there's nothing to do about it. In Korea, for example, expansions (including Cataclysm) are free, and you get a free SC2 account just by having a WoW account.
@penguingod7 I can get games for 75 % the price of what's on Steam and Battle.net on my local store. Tell me again, how am I not being ripped off paying 1 Euro for 1 dollar?
@Red0100 I just bought a bunch of games for under ten dollars... where are you buying games for under 2.50 exactly? Games from 1998 don't count by the way, neither do bootlegged games from a chinese fleamarket.
@Red0100 Is there a store somewhere in the world that sells games for under $5 all year round that aren't Bejeweled and AoL Trial CDs? All signs point to nope.
Basically this is what i think. Buying the pet is your option. If you want to buy it then you buy it. There shouldn't be an argument about it, but i do see that people would get upset because they would actually want the pet
Well, from a RP point of view, these pets don't really make much sense. But, they are indeed there for people that want to buy them. They aren't important for gameplay, but they are a fun little addition to your inventory for people interested in them. Personally, I'd never buy these things, but there's nothing wrong with them being on sale. If you want to have them, you can buy em, otherwise, don't bother. I still find it weird that they are cheaper in the U.S. :D
Its just something extra in the game, yah blizz is loaded but its something that people can say not that many people have it and I do...Its the peoples choice if they dont wanna spend the money then dont, I dont spead money execpt on race changes personally
If you don't want the pet, don't buy it. There's no argument for "it should be in the game for free" because it's not part of the core gameplay, and there's really no reason for them to bother making so many pets if people weren't paying for them.
A companion pet costs more than a 1 month subscription... that's definitely not worth it and completely unreasonable IMO. Why not have it available at a vendor or as a drop? and for those saying " what if yo don't have the time?" they could also have it available for purchase on their website. Honestly, it's not too different from XBL avatars but even so, at least avatar items cost only around £4 on average, not £9.
@deaddu 1ºdont compra something u buy at once and is a must buy to a thing u DONT BUY its a infinite bill ur fucking illogical 2ºim greedy?do u know how fucking hard it is to have all ur friends talk about cata and u cant afford it? blizzard got so far 1260000000 and an aditional 180000000 per month! 3º imagine have to pay for weapons?gear? places? PATCHES?no u dont cuz u payed the game the expansions the fucking monthly fee and u expect to actually play the game without BUYING ADITIONAL content

You didn't mention that Lil' Ragnaros also serves as a fire - which is a clear advantage to min-maxing raider types.

Meh, I'm an avid pet collector. I bought Lil K.T. and I was satisfied. I honestly don't see what the problem is.
IF -only IF- Blizzard start selling gear/XP/gold on the Blizzard Store, then people have a real right to cause shitstorms.
As it only seems to be vanity items sold, there is no real problem.

I figure a game should be P2P with all content available or F2P item mall with micro transactions. Mixing the two has a greedy feel to it.

WickedWicka 1 year ago
i really dont mind blizz needs money we have money they know we like wow so they put stuff in that costs 10 or so dollars its nothing you really need its not like your going to basicly have to buy it at a certain point

Are they account bassed so it goes to all of you chars on all the realms or server based? Also i say that achieve points should be used to buy Pets like this. They need to be used for something more than just showing off what youve done.

We bought this the very first day! so I'm glad to hear about the make a wish foundation.

bwcause the moonkins small, cute and adorable(: but i think they should reduce the price to like 5$ i think theyd get a lot more purchases that way.

Lil' Ragnaros actually reminds me of Ratchet from the Ratchet & Clank series :O

Personally, I have no problem with the virtual goods being sold in the store. I play many games online that use micro-transactions and I look at it this way- As long as the game company is not charging *additional* money for key, core, game-breaking items that I have to have to be able to play (aka, as a lousy example, you pay $15/mo and then, you have to pay $10 for every 10 levels you want to go above 40, or for your armor, etc) then I have no problem with paying (or not paying if I so choose)
Maleficently 1 year ago
(cont) for a luxury item. Hell, if they would give the option of paying for faction rep and/or additional mounts, I would be ALL over that. I realize that's a minority opinion, but really, most games/gaming companies are leaning more and more towards micro-transactions because they WORK, despite all the bitching. I think some people are just going to have to QQ and get over it.
Maleficently 1 year ago
I wouldn't have bought either except for the Make-a-Wish foundation part on the baby laser chicken, so I went ahead and sprung the $10 for it. It is a very high quality pet, as as of December 3rd the flower-spawning trick was working properly. I'm happy with it, and I don't feel like I completely wasted $10.
I don't agree with micro-transactions either, and the quality of the pets is no excuse. The LFD pug is one of the highest-quality pets in the game, and it's available to everyone.
eacaraxe 1 year ago
im gonna do it just for the make a wish contribution part. They should do stuff like that more often, like auctioning (spectral tiger for example) people sell them on ebay anyways why dont they do it themselves and give the money they raise to charity
StarBassPrincess 1 year ago
Why the hell would you pay real Cash for a stupid pet you might pull out 4 or 5 times before getting bored of it?
Total waste of money, and you're encouraging Blizz to make for of these bullshit micro-transactions.

give blizzard a break they have 12 million subscribers who also bought atleast one of the games for £30 or so they're practicaly poor!
Topher2k8 1 year ago

THEWEEABOOHUNTER 1 year ago

@exocd Activision are a bunch of corporate bastards.
I WANT 'EM OUT OF MY STARCRAFT 2!
1MrLinuxz1 1 year ago
@exocd I'd agree except for the fact that these don't change the game in any way. They're purely cosmetic pets. A "premium" pet you could say as they have their own little quirks that separate them from the normal pets. If somebody is willing to pay for something like that, why not cater to that market? It's not like Bliz is saying "you HAVE to buy these or you won't be able to enjoy the game".
Keinichn 1 year ago
@Cuwieify pay for achievements? Just no!

@exocd what Cuwieify meant was that you should get the pets from some kind of achievement, not to pay for them.
mardon88 1 year ago
Half the money for the moonkin goes to charity, so I don't mind that.
And I'm a pet collector on WoW, so if I have spare money, I really don't care if I use it on a virtual pet.
And the moonkin flower animation is in the game, it's just random, happens quite a few times for me.
But in short, I really don't mind buying the pets. It's just a way for Blizzard to make money, and the pets entertain me, I use them for RP.
Oglesby1993 1 year ago
20 euro for the Celestial Steed is far too dear imho. The Moonkin and other pets are fairly priced if you cant afford it dont bash it if you know what I mean.

my view is that selling the pets is totally acceptable because, they aren't essential for the game play they are just there to look cool and make people who don't have them jealous. As long as blizzard doesn't make gear cost money then its fine.
tuber856 1 year ago
I think you're unwillingly advertising for these pets, TB, even though you say you don't agree with spending extra money for perks. Just by saying they're cute, you've raised my motivation to buy them by +1 (not enough to get me to buy 'em tho :P)
I don't think it's fair that some countries get lower priced items than other countries, but there's nothing to do about it. In Korea, for example, expansions (including Cataclysm) are free, and you get a free SC2 account just by having a WoW account.

@Red0100 I just bought a bunch of games for under ten dollars... where are you buying games for under 2.50 exactly? Games from 1998 don't count by the way, neither do bootlegged games from a chinese fleamarket.
