Lisa's voice is a natural for Bossa Nova. I wish she would do more. Her familiarity with French is a great help in her pronunciation in Portuguese, but there is a common "tell" with non-natives. The tilde accent with the ao dipthong is pronounced as "aounh," with a glottal stop. All the pronunciation guides Incorrectly say it is pronounced as "ow." I grew up in Sao Paulo.

I think the voices don't match here because Lisa fails to hit lots of notes in Desafinado (she does better in Waters of March, so perhaps some "artistic decision" was involved -- and it was a bad one) and Damien sings accurately and sounds bored. The whole thing sounds like a phone call. Like Waters of March? Find the Elis versions on YouTube. I think of the black-and-white ones as the best.

@pufaful the first song is "desafinado" (out of key). the singer is hurt by another person saying they can't sing well, and he calls them mean and ingrate. I think it's because Tom Jobim sounds off key himself, and maybe people used to call him a bad singer, I don't know.

the second one is "águas de março" (waters of march) and it has an english version written by the same Tom Jobim. You can find it in youtube, the lyrics are a lot like the portuguese version.

I see these two take the song seriously, but their voices simply don't match. see Elis Regina singing it solo (her husband led the small band that everybody has been imitating since), and separately, see her sing it with the man who wrote the song, "tom" jobim -- a composer-musician so loved in his nation that the main Rio airport is named for him. Both these treats are on YouTube..Brazilians have voted this the best of all songs of its type.
