Standing at 6'5in. an immaculate ball handler, eyes all over his body and murder in the open court. What a lot of people don't know about pistol Pete is that he was a one of a kind shooter as well, right up there with jerry west and rick barry. My all time team: Pistol Pete, Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Rasheed Wallace or Kevin Garnett and Dwight Howard. This team would kill any dream team imaginable. Offense and Defense in spades. Pick your poison, run and gun or half court execution.
My favorite shot came at 1:15 where you can see the great sneakers we used when I was in high school compared to the high-heeled crap they sell kids today that are only good for twisting an ankle. Green Pumas and those blue suede Adidas were the best tennis shoes ever made.
the NBA most have been dope back then watching players pistol pete and george gervin, clyde frazier etc. now the games are fixed and the whole shit is just a big commercial
Pete Maravich dominated the game of basketball in ways Jordon can only dream of. And he did it while addicted to rugs and alcohol. I can only imagine what he could have been like sober.
@TerrorWarrior5000 You are the biggest idiot i have ever seen. Peter Press Maravich was the best there ever was F kobe and lebron. You must be stupied as crap to think pete was slow? Pete has better moves than any one. You must be black because you sure are racis and i can say what i wont because you are being racis and i am telling you are not suppose to be racis dude. That's rong and even if you are white why in the **** would you say the best ever basketball player was slow he isnt slow?...=S
He was not a ball hog he was not stingy he was not mean he was not any of those things he was a nice good man who just loved basketball. And that 1 dislike how could you dislike the best ever basketball player Peter Press Maravich?. He died at age 40 at a church practicing basketball. No one ever new he had something wrong with his heart? He was the greatest i will ever know Pistol Pete was not just a player This is what he lived for what he dezired he loved basketball Rest In Peace Pistol Pete.
terrorwarrior: A word of advise to a fool...if you keep your mouth shut others won't realize how stupid and uneducated you are...not to mention racist.
@TerrorWarrior5000 hey stupid fuck your probably jealous the way pistol pete play haha your probably a stupid idiot who only knows how to travel in basketball. if pistol pete is alive and in his prime ill bet he will smoke your sorry retarded ass to the ground and embarass you to the crowd with his jumpshots! to kobe and lebron i respect those guys just like pistol pete so shut the fuck up you racist!
@Gocavs1990 I wouldn't say he invented modern ball. He was a great entertainer but there were some very entertaining players who came before him - Goose Tatum, Elgin Baylor, Earl Monroe ...etc. He was a fantastic dribbler but so were Albert Pullins, Marcus Haynes, Bob Cousy ...etc. He was an adept long rang shooter before the introduction of the three point line just as Jerry West and Meadowlark Lemon were before him.
Pistol Pete was an icon but not the progenitor of modern ball.
He had so many types of passes that where incredible like behind the back, over the shoulder, his wrist pass where he extended his arms in one direction and at the end of the motion he would flick his wrist making it go the other way. He was so good. He loved basketball so much that everyday in the Summer he would spend 6 to 8 hours playing basketball and 4 hours during school days.
at first i thought the move @ 2:19 was illegal but after watching it many times I saw that he he has his hand over the top of the ball and is not touching it til it hits the ground, one of the best moves ive ever seen!
I have been very lucky in life and gotten to see many amazing things. But one of the true highlights was getting to see Pete put on a clinic at my sports camp when I was 12. Never seen anything like it. Never will again I am sure.
I have been very lucky in life and gotten to see many amazing things. But one of my true highlights was getting to see Pete put on a clinic at my sports camp when I was 12. Never seen anything like it. He was hitting shots all over the floor while talking to us. Doing things with a b'ball none of us had ever seen. Just amazing stuff. Maybe there have been better dunkers and defensive players but I have never seen anyone since rival him at ball handling and shooting. Not even close.
The lay up at 1.11,and the assist at 1.28 are the sickest thing Ive ever seen,I mean just unfreaking believable, Ive never seen anything close,Just mind boggling sick!
Bobbywhatever you call yourself, it's like me saying that rock or pop or western or all that jonny cash and elvis shit, that's the problem with some fools, they strya from the whole essence of the subject, and I try to remain objective, and I have played and watched a lot of high level basket-ball, and all that need be said is that Maravich has skills, and wouldn't be out of his comfort zone behind many of the guys who got all of the accolades as 'big' point gaurds, like your Magic's, & Byrds.
@bobbya16 Well if you actually listened to the lyrics of the song you'd realize that you're an absolute moron and that it isn't "shit ghetto rap music" It's poetry.

@bobbya16 hahhahha i guess another black joke huh? i dnt have time for this so im guessing since u didnt make it in life its fun to try and mess sombody else's hope i never have to go through that rode tell me wat its lyke
if he would stayed 1 more year with boston, he could have won a ring with Larry Bird. wow two of the greatest white boys to ever play the game, sorry excuse me! two of the greatest players to ever play the game in the same team nice.
@sattaravy then one realizes that magic has 5 more championships. unforetunately maravich was a victim of injury so who knows how could he could have been
@sattaravy You do realize that Maravich avged 24 points 5 assists on 44% fg for his NBA career, and never won an NBA championship. Those are nice numbers, nowhere near all time great, or anywhere near Magic Johnson. Allmost every year he was in the NBA his team had a losing record, he had bad players on his team but still.
You do realize that Pete was drafted by a veteran Hawks team, that already had a point guard (Walt Hazzard) and a two guard ("Sweet:" Lou Hudson). And then he was traded to a friggin' EXPANSION team, the Jazz? And then he got hurt, with an injury today that would be scoped and corrected in a matter of weeks, but then required major surgery? Pete was as a talented a player as any who ever stepped on the court, anywhere. Period.
@sattaravy Magic, Bird, Jordan and the rest got their game from 2 people- Oscar Robertson (The Big O) & "Pistol" Pete. Too bad he broke down. This video brought back some good memories. I guess the 1 dislike must be someone who doesn't know the game.
Sick signature move at 1:26, Sick behind-the-back CROSS OVER 1:42, Sick CrossOver 1:53 , awesome no-look pass 2:17, Sick Jason Williams-type of pass at 2:36... I would've loved going to these basketball games back-in-the-days.
@wilsondylanmccartney if u knew that this song was in the original and 1 mixtape, and since And1 the company and its players owe a lot to pete maravich's revolution of handling a basketball... this song is actually extraordinarily well thought out by the video maker. plus its a good hip hop song.
look up wrist pass bye pete maravich i did it in my last game in a 3 on 1 and the crowd went wild its the best pass ever youll make the defender eat air
44pts a game WITHOUT a 3 point line, I read that if they had it, he'd have avg'd over 56pts a game ... lol so sick... if only he stayed healthy and was on a decent nba team.
The Pistol had more basketball skill than anybody I ever saw. And as much court awareness as any player I ever saw. This is a player that should never fade into history. Pete was a true basketball artist for the ages.
@supastat1 Larry moved to PF cause Len Bias was supposed to come, but we all know what happened with that. Larry stayed at PF. Kareem and Hakeem's comp, it's a tough one, but I'll accept your opinion of Hakeem having tougher comp.
bird would fill in at pf if mchale were injured or not in the game etc. but with the front line of bird mchale and parish bird is the 3 mchale is the 4 and cheif is 5. larry is the greatest 3 of all time!
1:49 was the same spot dr.j dunked from the free throw line in a dunk contest.. i bet pistol could to if he could make a lay up jumping from there in a game
i dont think he was ahead of his time, i believe his basketball wizardry stands alone. no one since has been able to match his basketball artistry, the likes of which we will never see again.
Agree to a degree. He was kind of ahead of his time. He was rare on the court. Imo, his passing skills were unmatched. Todays players would catch hell playing against his unseen passing and excellent shooting.
@madmac993 too bad he had no value to a basketball team. Its not about hog dogging it, its about value to a team. Maybe Peter shold have practiced fitting into a team nstead of waisting his time learning this valueless nonesense.
he was never in the right situation. if he gad fallen to the 4th pic in 71' he would have been drafted by the celtics where auerbach stated they would have one even more titles. every superstar needs hall of fame talent to win championships but peter never had that luxury before his devistating knee injury occured.
Two of my sons played nike ball, including internationally. I challenged them to watch this without backing up at least TWICE (to see WHAT the hell they just saw). They couldn't do it!!
WHO is this guy, they asked! Well, boys, let me tell you...
Of course I remember him...He is just so ridiculous pass...Who can do that?Even Magic has to admit him as the one who brought show time into NBA...This is a nice mix anyway...The song is not the rap which 's annoying...and those passes...
Hope I was born earlier...I missed the period of Jordan,Magic,Jabbar, and of course Pete...
this is one of the few basketball videos ive seen with good music. The other one i can think of was a manute bole one with wishing by edo g. This song compliments his game
THE BEST college player of ALL TIME... there is no debate... To the guy talking crap about his NBA career... He was the ONLY person on his team most of the time, and was forced to take shots all the time. He didn't have another gaurd feeding him the ball, a pippen, a rodma...
If you gave him one semi-solid team he would have been even more insane. + He battled with injuries his entire NBA career. Don't ever disrespect Pete, one of the true ALL time greats and a true legend.

that five is terrible....rodman?!?!
pg - magic
sg - kb24
sf - james worthy or pippen
pf - karl malone or duncan
c - hakeem the dream
supastat1 2 years ago
Bird over James & Pippen.
Kareem over Hakeem.
imp4pdabest 2 years ago
larry was PF and hakeem had wayyy more competition than kareem
supastat1 2 years ago
@supastat1 Larry moved to PF cause Len Bias was supposed to come, but we all know what happened with that. Larry stayed at PF. Kareem and Hakeem's comp, it's a tough one, but I'll accept your opinion of Hakeem having tougher comp.

mchale was the power forward bro
madmac993 1 year ago 2
pg- magic
sg- jordan buy maybe kobe in the end
sf- larry legend
pf- duncan cause malone has no rings
c- hakeem or a young kareem
worthy, rodman, robinson, pippen? you guys are joking right?
madmac993 1 year ago
you should be asking that to yourself, larry was not a 3 he played the 4 so thats where ya 5 is wrong...
supastat1 1 year ago
bird would fill in at pf if mchale were injured or not in the game etc. but with the front line of bird mchale and parish bird is the 3 mchale is the 4 and cheif is 5. larry is the greatest 3 of all time!

As much as you may not want to have to pick one over the other, you know as well as I do that Kobe is no SF. It's either KB or MJ, pick one!

what's most remarkable is how ahead of his time he was. it's so impressive. new school ish done so long ago. respect due
goargos23 2 years ago 20
i dont think he was ahead of his time, i believe his basketball wizardry stands alone. no one since has been able to match his basketball artistry, the likes of which we will never see again.
madmac993 1 year ago
Agree to a degree. He was kind of ahead of his time. He was rare on the court. Imo, his passing skills were unmatched. Todays players would catch hell playing against his unseen passing and excellent shooting.
epics7 1 year ago
@madmac993 too bad he had no value to a basketball team. Its not about hog dogging it, its about value to a team. Maybe Peter shold have practiced fitting into a team nstead of waisting his time learning this valueless nonesense.
arther1045 1 year ago
he was never in the right situation. if he gad fallen to the 4th pic in 71' he would have been drafted by the celtics where auerbach stated they would have one even more titles. every superstar needs hall of fame talent to win championships but peter never had that luxury before his devistating knee injury occured.

Two of my sons played nike ball, including internationally. I challenged them to watch this without backing up at least TWICE (to see WHAT the hell they just saw). They couldn't do it!!
WHO is this guy, they asked! Well, boys, let me tell you...

I have become obsessed with trying to make the same pass that Pete makes at the 48-50 second mark
jcaudill6921 2 years ago
Definitely the best Pistol Pete mix on youtube. Great song to compliment his game.

HE WAS CROATIAN
smartg159 2 years ago
Of course I remember him...He is just so ridiculous pass...Who can do that?Even Magic has to admit him as the one who brought show time into NBA...This is a nice mix anyway...The song is not the rap which 's annoying...and those passes...
Hope I was born earlier...I missed the period of Jordan,Magic,Jabbar, and of course Pete...
