Death metal involves the usage of singing or bellowing with a deeper voice. "Screamo" is only a branch of the style of singing, where not only are you singing deeper, but are almost in a flasetto voice. So technically, yes, they are similar.

Now go listen to something you like; in the end you'll feel better than arguing with people who don;t like what you like.
