  • Hi Davie, another great video, what is the material that is tied in at 0:40? and is there any substitute to use instead of this material? thanks again!

    -Josh

  • Hi Josh(triviumlambofgod),

It's white antron yarn which is very cheap to buy, the easiest to find would be Glo-Brite Multiyarn number 16 but if you can't find this then an old pair of white laces would do the trick...All the best Davie

  • Thanks for posting all these fine videos, they are extremely helpful.

Your tying is second only to your patient diplomacy!

  • Hey there Davie. I have some critisism for you. This isn't a klinkhåmer. It has nothing to do with it to be honest. Hans developed the fly in long time span. It took 15 years to klinkhåmer to be what it is nowadays. I don't know if you've met Hans in person, but I can assure you he would not accept this or the CDC one as a klinkhåmer. Im in no way disrespecting or mocking you. Youre amazing. But pleace, rename the fly for parachute emerger or something like that... this isnt a klinky.

  • Hi christdethroned7,

If I showed this fly to 100 fly fishers and tyers I'm sure they would call it a Klinkhamer so if I called it something else I'm sure I would a have an email the oppistite of yours asking me why I have named it something else so you are damned if you do and damned if you don't..I'm sure it's not doing anyone any harm..I appreciate what you are saying and thankyou for the kind comment...

    All the best Davie

  • @DavieMcPhail Thank you for your reply. I completly understand whats your point. But dont you think its wrong to "educate" people to tye wrong fly? I think its basicly the same if you tye a silver doctor and then title it as a silver rat. Anyway keep up the great work youre doing here on youtube. You give so much to the world wide fly tying community. The effort you put is probably far more greater than most think.

  • Hi christdethroned7,

I filmed myself today tying the Klinkhamer Special which I feel would please you...ATB Davie

  • @christdethroned7 Some name you got pal, this fly has all the parts a Klinkhammer should have ok so it is not the same colours as Hans Van tied years ago, that friend is a Fly Tyers Perogative, Variatons are what takes fish.

On a friendly note keep silly remarks to yourself, in essence it is a Klinkhammer and Davie was far too polite in his reply to you. I further suggest that on your own behalf you pay a visit to the taxidermist.

  • @xixflyfishing Now, now, don't be silly. :) Could you please enlighten me why should I visit taxidermist?

  • Fantastic Davie, you make fly dressing look so easy.. I am 42 and went fly fishing for the first time this week!! Fell in love with it straight away, I'd love to reach the standard of fly tying that you are at, but doubt I ever will!! thanks for sharing these with us...

  • Hi Ben,

Well done it's always nice to hear compliments on your tyings..I have never tyed a mudeye pattern before...

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Dave

    Ben

  • Hi Davie, Great video as always,You make tying flys look so easy...what make of vice do you use is it a law one....,Cheers

  • Hi nymphman1,

Many thanks for the kind words...

It is the Law vise that I use which I have had for a few years now but unfortunately it's no longer being made..

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Davie, great video and instructions, the hackle feather you wind around the post is it a genetic or whiting grizzle it looks very long, i have great trouble winding around the post and finishing the head, they never seem to look like yours when i'm finished, is it because i use ordinary hackle feathers that are not so long, i'll keep on trying though. Regards Alan

  • Hi Alan,

It was a genetic hackle I used which if I remember right was a Whiting, they do make tying parachute flies easy but you can also use non genetic as I still do. Chinese and Indian can make a good hackle but you have got to use hackle pliers so that you can get enough turns to form the hackle..

    All the best Davie

  • Love this fly started tying it last season and it worked well for me on the brown's.

Had sucess yesterday with it when nothing else worked I tyied one on in a light olive and made it skip across the surface and wamo!! and the strikes were on. I guess the bows like them also...thanks Davie you video's are the bomb!!

  • @basspro209 Are you a Calgarian or did you borrow Bass Pro I have been in the Calgary Store BassPro, took my boat license there last year, I fish the Bow most years and will be out there again next July and August, Calgary then Montana and back to Calgary then home to the UK. All the Best and Tight Lines for the rest of your season.

  • Hi Davie,

Does the colour of the hackle make a difference? If so how do you go about selecting the colour?

Much thanks for all your videos.

  • Hi azwoolybugger,

In this pattern I have used plain grizzle as well as the dyed yellow, I've also used badger and dyed hackles in light to dark olive with the same body colour. Having variants will always help especially in different light conditions.

    All the best Davie

  • You did it yet once again, Davie. Great vid! Thanks.

  • we love you Dave!

  • Dave. You are the master. We appreciate your videos.

    Neil

  • Thanks Neil...

    All the best Davie

  • Thanks for the reply davie,

The late peter Scott taught me to tye and fish he was a fine tyer very much like yourself.

    Ronnie

  • Davie iearned to tye this fly the oliver Edwards way but your way is much easier, just a small question the original tying was

on a large hook with a big hackle, according to Edwards,do think the smaller fly is better

    Ronnie T

  • Hi Ronnie,

The Klinkhamer can be tyed in all sizes, the originals as far as I believe were to represent egg laying or hatch caddis. The one I tyed would easily represent a small midge or caddis emerging so I have them tyed in all sizes, as you will find they still work..

    All the best Davie

  • i saw your way to tie the post and its amazing i always do it that way now because there is a lot less bulk. Now my klinkhammers dont look all messed up.

  • can u use 6/0 black uni

  • Hi Nicolelennonbabe,

You could but if you can buy some 8/0 it will make tying the fly much easier...

    All the best Davie

  • Davie,

Like most good things you don't fully appreciate them unless they are taken away.............. for a bit!

I'm very pleased you are back as you've taught me to tie great flies and for that I'm most grateful as I enjoy the learning process, catch more and get more satisfaction from my fishing.

    Keep up the great work.

    Kind regards, Mark.

  • Great technique, easier to tie off this way. Top of the line fly when things get slow.

  • hey davie i have a wee suggestion, i was experimenting with klinks and ive had some sucess with adding legs to them and are slowly becoming my go to fly when all else is failing, try it out =]
