i am in a basement apartment, with about 7 foot ceilings. the room i'll be playing in is about 15ft. x 20ft. with furniture and other shit in it. do you think it will sound ok? i'll be using a 5-piece Shure set with 2 more for overheads.
Contrary to popular belief not everyone loves the Glyn Johns technique. The Eagles stopped recording with him after two albums because Don Henley did'nt like his drum sound.
I've only used it on a couple of songs and it's not bad for a minimalist set up, but if you want a big sound, the kind where the toms roll from the left to right speakers as well as the cymbals, you're not going to get that with this technique. I personally prefer the wide stereo sound myself, but thought this was good to experiment with
@eastriver15 The Eagles are great band and I just saw them live and they were great. However, in terms of drum sounds, Zep and Stones had better drums sounds no?
Wow! Awesome tones. I have just recently started to experiment with this placement technique, but it doesn't sound this good yet. What mics are you using in each position?
I'm actually experimenting and getting better sounds than this now, It depends on where your drums are sitting in the room, how the drums are tuned, and how dead the room is. The mics are listed on the video or in the summary on the side
Pitty your kit aint tuned, snare sound is terrible. You need a perfectly tuned kit in order to avail of the full potential of this method
