That was an awesome commentary. My views on religion is that people (society) teach religion (via Church) before society teaches individuals to think for themselves.
I Hate how the youngest religion of all the major religions trys to credit for holidays like "christ"mas, easter or even halloween....if you go back in history thousands of years before christians was even a thought you would see that its a pagan tradition not a Christian, Muslim or Jewish. Lots of pagan religions had similar stories and tales that were later adopted by Christianity. Research the book of the dead....most preachers know only what they were told...and thats what they preach.

Although today his teaching are the most prominent in the Quran....and were the basis of the current Muslim teachings. Their religion did exsist before the profit but was loose based on Judaic practices too....hence mecca is the oldest and holiest city throughout history. It was that way even before muhammed.

Halloween Started out as a christian Holiday. It was about remembering all of the saints that had died. People started dressing up because they believed that if they appeared scary they would scare the evil spirits away. It has nothing to do with worshiping the devil.

I am Catholic and I completely see where you're coming from. I think people of different religious denominations have a tendency nowadays to over-analyze their faith and what it is suggesting.
I was raised in a Catholic family, but I personally am an Atheist. I don't really care what other religions believe in, I have friends who are Christians, and some who are Muslim, and we all get along wonderfully because we don't shove each others beliefs down our throats. I think that's where all this drama and controversy comes from with religions, I don't think enough of them preach to their followers to be open minded towards religions other than their own.
My personal favorites are the parents that hide there kids from Harry Potter. Its a fictional book about non-existant magic, cmon! Religions only fill the void for what humans can't explain. Some may be based in fact but all are just opinions. I'm catholic and realize this, wish that others would too.

Well I'm pretty sure that I can speak for all Atheists in saying that it's a fine holiday and you can celebrate it if you want to. I don't know why or how it originated, but in modern times the main purpose of Halloween is to have fun, whether it's dressing up and going to a party or going out Trick or Treating with friends for free candy. People should try to keep their religions to themselves instead of infecting the rest of their planet with their skewered views. Just my opinion.

I go to a Jesuit high school. I'm no super crazy Christian (Roman Catholic to be exact), but I do let it influence how I live my life. You should read the book "Meeting the Living God" by William O'Malley S.J.. He's my religion teacher (senior in high school) and he's the wisest man I've ever known. You would LOVE it.
Also i don't know how people can say killing someone as God told them to, when their Religion says no one should kill another human.
I believe that Religion is just a guideline on how we should live our lives as without Religion there would be more crime as they Religion stops people doing a crime as no one wants to do something bad and go to "hell"

Im not religious but I really enjoyed this commentary.

But at the same time I see athiests doing that to passive christians which is just as bad.
I have friends of all religious beliefs and religion shouldn't be something that stops people from getting along.

Halloween Started out as a christian Holiday. It was about remembering all of the saints that had died. People started dressing up because they believed that if they appeared scary they would scare the evil spirits away. It has nothing to do with worshiping the devil.

First, I'd like to say that I am a Christian, and I believe God sent Jesus to die on the cross for my sins. This is what bothers me: anyone can say they believe in God. I would like to share the reason why I am going to heaven, as I mentioned earlier. God sent his son Jesus, who was perfect, to bear my sins on the cross. Well firstly I am also a Christian. Now maybe it isn't my place to comment on Halloween because I live in Australia and we don't celebrate it, but the impression I get from watching U.S tv is people dressing up as ghosts, vampires wizard and witches etc and trick or treating. Now I believe that dressing up as a being of evil, is a form of worship. Regardless of Halloweens origin, dressing up as a vampire or demon is worshiping evil and should not be encouraged. If u dress as Mario, then who cars

If there are a shit load of completely different religions all over the world, and the followers of each one believes that theirs is the only true religion, then who is right? Nobody probably. Most people just need something to cling to in times of need. That is what religion is for. Some people let it go to their heads, which is why there are Harry Potter deprived children. At the end of day, I just wonder my school wasn't allowed to have a fucking Christmas tree without offending someone.

I was raised in a Catholic family, but I personally am an Atheist. I don't really care what other religions believe in, I have friends who are Christians, and some who are Muslim, and we all get along wonderfully because we don't shove each others beliefs down our throats. I think that's where all this drama and controversy comes from with religions, I don't think enough of them preach to their followers to be open minded towards religions other than their own.

My personal favorites are the parents that hide there kids from Harry Potter. Its a fictional book about non-existant magic, cmon! Religions only fill the void for what humans can't explain. Some may be based in fact but all are just opinions. I'm catholic and realize this, wish that others would too.

I'm an atheist and I completely agree with you. I see far too many Christians today trying to impose their beliefs on other people thinking they are doing the 'Christian thing', but this is distinctly unChristian. Would Jesus post protest at rallies shouting, "god hates fags!". Hell no he wouldn't. If more Christians were like you, Brett I would have a little more respect for Christianity and religion in general. As it stands, I have no respect for it at all. I prefer science and logic.

Well I'm pretty sure that I can speak for all Atheists in saying that it's a fine holiday and you can celebrate it if you want to. I don't know why or how it originated, but in modern times the main purpose of Halloween is to have fun, whether it's dressing up and going to a party or going out Trick or Treating with friends for free candy. People should try to keep their religions to themselves instead of infecting the rest of their planet with their skewered views. Just my opinion.

I go to a Jesuit high school. I'm no super crazy Christian (Roman Catholic to be exact), but I do let it influence how I live my life. You should read the book "Meeting the Living God" by William O'Malley S.J.. He's my religion teacher (senior in high school) and he's the wisest man I've ever known. You would LOVE it.

I am not Religious but i go to a Catholic school. i agree with u that everyone one should have their own views. I live in Australia and didn't celebrate Halloween until I 18 as thats when I go into nightclubs and get dressed up. I believe its Halloween is just a night for kids to dress up and have a good time (don't know what the true meaning is. might google it later).

I believe that Jesus meant that we are all the sons of God when he claimed to be the son of God. I believe he was there to preach the word of God. I find it hard to believe that God chose to make a girl pregnant, and the word virgin was closely translated to another word in another language to be "young girl" which Mary was. Not dissing religion, I'm for whatever you want to believe, just stating my beliefs, as we all have the right to. I was born into a christian family, but my views are my own
