The first time I ever saw this episode, I was ten years old...and my little sister ran out of the room when she saw the machine turn to face the Enterprise on the viewscreen!
@kb7rky Thank you! I love this episode and wouldn't want to change it unnecessarily. My original idea was to clean up the effects footage, but I'll never get my hands on that.
So, this was the only way I could think of to come close to that.
Quick question...how were you able to composite the footage? It just occured to me that it might be a procedure I could replicate for my own project...
That may be quick to ask but it will take longer to give a good reply.
Short version: I set the background image to the original sequence in TrueSpace. Then I set up a transparent plane with my new sequence, keeping the area of the screen opaque.
I invented my own way, having read how they did it in the "reel" world. (Ha! Puns, love 'em)
I converted the footage for the screen inserts into still frame BMP images. Then, I created a matte from a single still frame and used it in TrueSpace as an Alpha channel. Then, I placed my work in the alpha channel. I'd be happy to show you.
No problem! This is a fantastic project and I'm glad someone (with the proper resources) is taking the time and energy to do it.
Yeah, "EliteRanger" is a really old name I had here, and when I uploaded my first video I forgot to make a seperate account. Since I couldn't transfer videos and I didn't want to get rid of my views, I was and still am stuck with the old name... :(
That gave me a good chuckle!

Bit o'Trek Trivia:
This was James Doohan's (Scotty) favorite episode, in that it was more technically believable than any other Trek episode before it.
As for your added effects...nicely done! Glad to see you stayed so close to accepted Trek canon.

I think it worked fairly well.

Excellent work!! I'm Promus from SciFi-Meshes, btw. :D

Thanks Promus/EliteRanger! I kept the scifieric moniker from both SciFi-Meshes and 3DSciFi, of course. ;)
I appreciate the kind words.
