I would like Ron Paul himself to make a statement as to whether or not he signed that actual letter. If he says that he was too busy to actually read a five page letter he was signing, I'm not going to believe him. Even if that were true, it means he was an idiot (who would sign a relatively short statement without reading it)

The first two are defininitely different. None of the "authentic" signatures connect the R & o. The third unverified signature has an R with a second leg, and artifact not found in any other signatures. The last one could be the real thing, but then again it could be a stamp. This doesn't convince me either way (excluding that I don't believe the third signature is Dr. Paul), but keep working on it.

Why is it so unthinkable that a full-time politician would have signed a letter encouraging people to subscribe to his political newsletters while remaining aloof of the actual production process? You might also find Arianna Huffington‟s signature on solicitation letters for the Huffington Post. Does that make her personally responsible for everything inside?

It could easily have been photocopied. But suppose it wasn‟t. So what? Why wouldn‟t Ron Paul‟s name appear on the solicitation letter? It doesn‟t follow that therefore he wrote it, or anything else in the newsletters. He‟s someone for whom it is routine to draft and sign hundreds of bills that never see the light of day. A request to ink one more piece of paper probably would not strike him as way out of left field.

It doesn't AT ALL match the sample on Wiki. But whether it matches is beside the point: Documents like this are often printed using a /copy/ of a real signature. This has all come up 3x before, in 2008, 2001 and 1996. Paul has denied that he wrote them, and disavows them, although he notes that he does bear "moral responsibility" since he allowed them to be published in his name. But his record speaks for itself, and I know him. He is simply not a man who would say these things.

Have you seen the article just published last week by Reason magazine (a libertarian magazine) about who authored Ron Paul's newsleteters? Google for "who wrote Ron Paul's newsletters" to find it. It says that Ron Paul "became complicit in a strategy of pandering to racists." That's not much better than writing the newsletters himself.

He was the owner and publisher. A lapse of oversight once or twice is reasonable, but over the entire span of 20 years?

Second of all, Ron Paul himself doesn't even deny that the documents on The National Review's website are true and accurate reproductions of his newsletters. TNR never says Paul wrote them. Identify one -- just one -- factually untrue thing about TNR's reporting on this story. Just one. Go for it. I'm waiting.

Ron Paul has not questioned the authenticity of the newsletters uncovered by The National Review. He has admitted they are true copies. Name one error in TNR's reporting. Just one.

I do not expect my leaders to be perfect. I was a racist myself for many of my years. I was raised in a racist household as well. I have since seen the light. We are all people, and should all be treated as individuals. Nobody has ever heard or seen Ron Paul do anything racist. For an old guy, that is pretty impressive.
