I'd love to hear that thing start up and idle. The sounds of the car are the only thing missing from these videos. I get so sick of a big beautiful sounding engine muted with annoying rock music.
Just saw episode ten on fld and had to watch the other nine eps. The speed that
this machine is comming together is staggering. I hope you guys blow em out of the water!!! Love to work for and be a part of a project like this. Does Local motors need a good tech wrench? Good luck & God bless.
Whilst 'Upl8er' is sweeping the floor - I'll make the Tea ;-)
Truth is I'm as Jealous as can be. I used to work in a specialist car manufacturing co (GlenfromeofEngland) with pride, until the market disappeared. I hope Local Motor's keep a few eggs in other baskets and don't see the investment dry up all together. Congratulations on a niche market product with broader appeal. You lucky lucky b... err... nice fellows you. Was that with Milk and Sugar ?
Will you test it in heavy snow conditions? Would have been awesome with MT and 4WD...! Good luck with this machine, really hope you succeed! Best regards from Norway.
I like it when countries do things their own way, for so long I've bemoaned the foolishness of american car manufacturers attempting to replicate and compete with european and japanese releases simulataneously.
They had a good thing before, and the deindustrialisation that is coming with their slow deaths I suppose leaves a lot of room for the public to recognise remarkable minor manufacturers doing things their own way and in this case I think a way that is so well thought out and so specifically tuned to its environment, I can't imagine it won't be a success and if it isn't I will be a little depressed.
You'll forgive me if I say it is the American equivalent of Bowler, I don't mean to say it takes an inspiration, any cues or even compares directly to anything made by Bowler, simply that it is an uncompromising off-road vehicle, tuned and developed in a way that makes it almost endemic to its home country.
I want to get one of these, make it 4-wheel drive, and put a different transmission in it, with a twin turbo Dodge Viper engine (8.4L V-10, 1200Hp). Now THAT would be a badass car... Anyone else think so?
some of those hard turns makes the car look very top heavy. and with a fiber glass and carbon fibre body, it would be interesting to see how it holds up on endurace race like the baja 1000. i hope it holds up to some bumps and bruises.
A bunch of average joes doing an average car. All this is just hilarious. Who needs it anyway and where is the innovation in all this ? Is something electric..NIET !...something high tech that no one does......NADA !.... So what is this..well yet another meaningless sort of vehicle.
You can tune a Ford to do all that and even better. Not to mention the reliability. This is such nonsense.
First car that makes me really interested in understanding what the heck you guys are talking about when you are going off about suspension tech. Nice to see some passion, just too bad I'll only be driving this car in my dreams!

@destroyerzx1 no need to, that's that my Subaru is for.
But... what does creativity have to do with off roading? If you want to be creative, don't steal the back end of an economy car.
My post had nothing to do with their awesome offroading capability, but it has everything to do with the design of the rear end.

Great. The world is running out of resources and "new" ideas include a car that has no green tech and guzzles gas.
If they tried for the MadMax look, they succeeded. But remember that the entire movie was about scoring petrol.

We can see massive gains in fuel economy by light-weighting a vehicle and using clean diesel technology. And by building locally we can implement the best powertrain options per city, utilizing locally available alternative fuel and infrastructure - like electric, CNG, or hydrogen.
localmotors 1 year ago
These options don't make sense everywhere, and they are not supported everywhere - but we will utilize this technology when it is proven (and some is), and more importantly WHERE it is supported. For the desert, clean diesel is the best option for now.

Interesting. Thanks for the informative response.
How much consideration has been given to the semi-universal technologies like advanced fuel control systems and hydrogen supplementation systems? The later has been proven to be both a boost to gas and especially diesel systems while not adding drain to the magneto alternator system.
