Can I ask you a question please? How do you make the scales for this dragon? because you explain how you did the scales on the other one using cloth triangles. Please send a answe back
Thank you for the nice comment! I'm very happy that you like the work. I've been doing this for a very long time, 35+ years. I appreciate your interest.
Hello there. Actually, in this case it's just that I used a semi-glass paint. I don't use varnish. You can get several effects just by using different sheens in the paint.
Hello there. I use acrylic/latex paints, basically house paint or all purpose paint that you can get at Home Depot. But any water based paints will work.
Thank you so much for the wonderful comment! I really appreciate it. If you are interested, I go through the process of making this piece on my blog, PaperMacheBlog (dot com). It is archived under "Paper Mache Dragon Pair". I discuss materials there along with process.
Hey Dan, you may not remember me because I haven't talked to you in a while. But Amazing work, I can't believe how lucky I am to even 'see' you magical art. I have created two creatures from your inspiration. I even gave one to my best friend! For the eyes I couldn't find that glass marble you suggested so i made it out of clay! I can't wait to show you my master piece!
Hello again Aaron. Of course I remember you. I'm very happy that you've made some art! Congratulations. I'm sure the eyes turned out well.
If you ever feel like getting some exposure for your art, I'd be happy to post photos on my site. If you are interested, just send it to my address dan at gourmetpapermache (dot com).
hey Dan!,..what is the black that you wash over your piece once you've finished painting??.....I am working on a dragon myself,(it's turning out great so far), I will post some pix when done!....I very appreciate you and your work!!, and it "LOOKS" like you enjoy doing it as well!.........thanks for that!
That is just watered down black paint. I paint it on and wipe it off before it dries. It really brings out the detail and colors. I call the process "blackwashing" for lack of a better term. By the way, I love to post photos of other people's work on my site. If that is something you are interested in, send photos to me, dan at gourmetpapermache (dot com).
You are very funny! We all know that Godzilla could destroy Tokyo. I'm not sure Chuck Norris could though. You are very kind. Thank you for commenting.
The scales are made of cloth pieces dipped in glue. This build can be seen with commentary on my blog if you are interested, PaperMacheBlog (dot com).
I do sell some, but they are pretty expensive. That's why I encourage people to make their own. They are just really labor intensive. You should make your husband a dragon. He would love it.
I do have a page on my site where I put things I'm selling, just to let you know.
Thank you John. I agree about the style of video. I just didn't have video of this build. But I did have a lot of photos. I just thought I'd put it out there any way. Hope your music is going well.
Thank you! I'm glad you like it. If you are ever interested, I love to post other people's paper mache on my site (with whatever caption they choose). Just a thought. Photos could be sent to dan at gourmetpapermache (dot com).
Yayyyyyyyyyyyy! Great to see a fresh project from you, Dan! I LOVE this duo! It's very kewel how they fit together and I love the fierceness in their expression. I also love the claws n horns and the scale texture u put on. Great job! I will definitiely go check out the commentary! Maybe there r fresh tutorials too????
I see your doing new things... I love you work!! Maybe I'll try after my current (clay) project is done..... What I love about what you do the most is the meterial costs VERY little lol I'm almost too scared to try [I may never do clay] again!! JK, great video! =D
Thank you. I'm so happy you commented on the colors. I wrestled with those for a couple of months. In the end, I stuck with what I know works for dragons.
truely awesome mate! best one's yet! they look great individually but fantastic as a pair!! the scales are really effective and their paws are great too, so realistic. Plus the faces might be the "same" but i think they each have their own personallity. Thumbs up for sure!!!
