  • We still live where we were discovered- Yaqui Joe

  • drive by in guad!

  • The Story of how the Venado Azule brought the people out of starvation and ignorance is a beautiful one. Im not offended by this video. This is a modern age and to see this rendition of ancient ritual helps people to realize its importance. Besides there is no curing here or healing of the sick. I would be more concerned if that was being filmed rather than this performance that is strictly for entertainment and education.

  • Hey take this video down!

  • i didn't know you can't record the dances, if it's true the traditional yaquis don't like that then those dances shouldn't be recorded. but i've yaqui blood, and if it wasn't for that video I wouldn't have made a connection to my lost family. this video can do alot good

  • @badazzfeliciano Yea same here

  • @badazzfeliciano Not really, these are the yaqui mayos. Half breed wanna bes

  • @ToastyFB It is the so-called 'half-breed wannabes' who are the ones that are bringing about the history and rituals or our people to the light. I am Northern Cheyenne/Lakota and Cherokee and one of my Grandsons is Yaqui. There are 'full bloods' who could care less about who they are. How in the world can someone be a 'wannabe' if they aleady have the blood?

  • @mtnflr Well Mayos are the half breeds of the tribe and all they do is show off videos and disrespect tradition. They holler at women during cueresma and drink too. And they always allow video and always try to out dance us like what are you doing?

  • @mtnflr You have a good point. I have met full bloods that could care less about who they are too.

  • thank you yaquimassoBwikleo alot of ppl comment on the deer dancer, and really they dont know shit. And your right the masso and the pascolas on tres rios video are YAQUI.

  • This deer dancer here is clearly a mayo deer dancer dressed like a yaqui deer dancer. You can tell by the way he moves. yaqui deer dancers dont move like that.

  • @JEWentWorth11 this is masso. maybe

  • most of the deer dancers on youtube are Mayo not yaqui, cant you people tell the difference.

  • @JEWentWorth11 Well Not The Ones On LA VOS DE LOS TRES RIOS Those Deer Dancers Are Either From Vicam Switchi Or Rio Yaqui But All The Others Are Either Mexicans Trying To Be Like Us Or Mayos So You Have A Point There.

  • 10havier10 is one of those yaquis that wants to be an indian from up north, wearing feathers and doing pow wows and shit. well first of all i think that yaquis

that are into doing shit like that. like pow wows and sun dances are just plain silly and need to stop that bullshit. I think its sad that they go and do other ppls traditions and not there own. Yaquis come from Mexico and thats just a facted our second language is spanish. besides yaqui and english.

  • @JEWentWorth11

you idiot.. yaquis were split by the us-mexico border and therefore reside on both sides. i am yaqui and my family comes from arizona

  • @igotagoodthang actually yaquis were run away slaves, since we were very close to being an extinct tribe.

  • yaqui1977 lol you dont know what the fuck you are saying i think no knows what the fuck they are saying yaquis are native americans (indians) not mexicans or whites blacks asians or whatever they are indians i am indian im yaqui indian and im proud we have our own language and its not spanish it indian ps you dont know what the fuck you are talking about a lost cause ive visited guadalupe az in tempe and im not impressed no culture at all you all want to be mexicans its sad spanish no indian

  • @10havier10 what he's trying to say is we're stricter than any other yaqui tribe that does cueresma. and we are. and it's not in tempe guadalupe is it's own town. and yes we're stricter and rougher! and the carnival is for those that aren't in cueresma. and it's not sad spanish. we're native and proud.

  • @ToastyFB lol listen you little dumb ass you just proved my point you sound like a lil wet back half breed why dont you read a little closer go to school i stand by my point and having a carnival is not tradition at all the last one ive been to in guad i ran into little punks like you trying to be niggers or wet backs and try to speak spanish its stupid its not strict there at all you guys are a bunch of sellouts you sell your own culture for you beer and drugs what a disgrace half breed

  • @10havier10 listen FAG!!! i wouldn't be talking cuz u don't know shit we do. right now some people dont agree with our capitals. but we are there to serve for good. we're not even allowed to look at the carnival when we're out there!! stupid!!! and i'm in that stuff and no! i have respect for everyone unless they're total douches like you! and half of the money that gets made by the carnival goes to the church. so smd!

  • @ToastyFB hey little fag you are just a punk you cant tell me you are not a sellout cause you are ive lived there you little fag nothing but yaquis try to be wetbacks and niggers you really dont know shit half breed lol monies goes to the church lol you guys are all fake wanna be indians wetback when the police comes you wanna be a yaqui little pussy ass wet back

  • @10havier10 lol you are sooo full of shit its unbeliveable. Here you are talking all kinds of shit calling everyone wetbacks and shit. I bet your one of those yaquis that thinks there native american. One of those yaquis that does pow wows and those fucking sun dances. Well I think those kind of yaquis that do that shit are just plain fuckin retarded. So before you start calling ppl sellouts, you should take a good look at yourself cuzz it sounds to me that your the fuckin sellout.

  • Thanks for posting!

At this age and time their story needs to be told!

From pascuayaqui-nsn.gov " In 1533, the Yaquis saw the first white men: a Spanish military expedition searching for slaves"

  • puro bacum sonora rio yaqui y la loma de bacum donde todos son yakis atentamente el bonilla(crosty).

  • Being part Yaqui, this is awesome to see it practiced. Though whether it should be up or not- toss up.

  • To Idubski

The majority of the people entertaining themselves at the carnival are non members who are clueless to our customs. The Hiaki who are culturely aware are either at the Templo or participating in prayer and prosessions. But thanks for your imput anyway.

  • @Chickie7236 i know right. While everyone else is at the carnival we're marching keeping jesus hidden. on good frirday we stand there for 2 houres with our roses and candles. finally we go out and have the greatest time of cuersma haha. but still the members of cuersma only go to the carnival mainly on easter sunday. some sabado de gloria.

  • To Idubski Carnival packs up and is gone, in addition to their support of a certain % cut going to the church society to help with expenses, it's not so cheap to hold several weekends and Holy Week, but I didn't expect you know that.YOU TUBE IS FOREVER.

  • To Idubski

Look, I'm not trying to make enemies here, but to me nothing is sacred anymore, excluding the few rare. I don't konw what race you, but I'm guessing you are Mexican, only for the fact that you don't seem to have any connection, less respect for the Maso a.k.a. 'Deer Dancer,' (to those others). What ever makes you feel better, then to put us down by saying disrespect comes from our own people by having a carnival.

  • @Chickie7236 mexican is not a race. in mexico there are whites, native americans, blacks, asians, and mestizos. all of whom are mexican...

  • @rocchio100 Yah, how long isgoing to take to figure that out. I'm only trying to meet Mexican preference here, many mexicans don't like being called Navite/Indians, so if and when you do have a real proper term, let me know...

  • puro GUAYMAS !!!...Y GUADALUPE!!!

  • How were you able to tape this? I'm full-blooded Yaqui and from what I know, you can't record something like this without the consent of the tribe. I don't much about my heritage, but I'm learning in a class taught by a friend of my parents in Guad.

  • como grabo este video?A los yaquis no les gusta que los graben en sus rituales.

  • is the only culture in mexico is not manipulated to the Spanish(hernan cortes), deer dance originated in the Yaqui villages found in southern Sonora, near Ciudad Obregon, has nothing to do Yaqui culture, with Mexica culture, is very independent and is as ancient Aztec culture.

  • Im Yaqui And Im Proud! (:

    <3 New Pascua

  • omg what is this doing on here.....people are not supposed to record this stuff its disrespect....if you record this in guad they will take your camera away...no joke

  • Comment removed

  • I think I saw this dancer in Magdalena. Looks much skinnier in person. He was dancing in front of one of the shops. Not very good. Yaquis from Guad take their tradition more seriously than those in Potam. ;)

  • yaquis in guad take drinking more seriously

  • I know what you mean. I saw some white people trying to record the Matachini on Easter Sunday morning two years ago and when they saw me looking at them they started to run, I don't know if they got away though it is disrespectful. There's signs in Guad before you enter the church grounds stating Ordinance 27 (i think) and you can't record audio or video, take pictures or make sketches or you'll get fined. Don't people know how to read!?

  • i am a mexica dancer i dont mind people recording as long as they dont us it as a joke and dont film while a real ceremony is going on. presentation to the people is to teach or show them about our culure and for all native people to know that we all alike ahoe

  • Mexica dancing and Yaqui dancing are quite different. You can Mexica dance almost anywhere in the southwest and elsewhere in the u.s. and film as you please but if you go to a Yaqui rez you'll generally have your camera broken. Trust me we are not all "alike" and Yaqui dances are treated mch differently.

  • I apologize for not being well versed in your traditions. What is Mexica dance and what does it entail? What inspirations does it draw from? What is the purpose of Mexica dance? Thanks

  • No i was actually responding to another person. Mexica dance is more commonly known as "Aztec Dance" It entails keeping traditions, stories, and language of our ancestors alive mainly through dance. Mexica dance is one of the many styles of dance found in the continent. There are some similarities such as eagle dancing which is something the Hopi have, as well as similar to Yaqui: "Their deer song rituals resemble those of other Aztec influenced groups though is more central to their culture."

  • The problem with Mexica dancers i find is that some tend to have some weird impulse to gravitate toward an image of what it is to be "Native American" and often times have convuluted visions that we all happen to be the exact same people. Well we're indeed quite different and we should celebrate this. Even with our many similarities going to a Yaqui, Dine, or Lakota rez and trying to come off as "hey we're all indigenous look I'm Mexica" is generally met with frowns. We have different histories.

  • Yaqui's in Guad take their tradition more serious than those in Tucson. Although, im not offended by the video, I still think they should not have video tape this deer dance!!

  • They are so serious that they have a carnival on church grounds during holy week!

  • Your a Fucking Idiot!

For a Person Who Paricipate In These Ceromonies I Know Whats Up!

It Has Nothing To Do With Us

    Soo Get Yo Shit Sraight

    DUMB FUCK!

  • Commenting On Idubski

What Kind A Fucking Name Is That!

  • Thanks Philllip, I'll leave your comment so everyone can see how well you argue your case. Thanks for watching!

  • @ldubski dude that's just for the kids...and us for wen we finish we can chill wit our girls and everything

  • @ldubski a carnival in celebration

  • @ldubski This Is a celebration. The deer is a sacred symbol which is why we do this. It is a very serious and sacred thing. As the deer dancer dances we see seye wailo (the flower world) we think of it. there is a video that explains it. Just search Seye wailo

  • @yaqui1977 i agree man dont u go to jail if u videotape or take a pic of our proud tradition

  • @yaqui1977 Well Not All Yaqui Pueblos In Tucson Are The Same. In New Pascua It's Different Then In 16th Or 39th. So Thats Not A Fact Thats An Opinion. Furthermore, This Is Okay Because It Is A Presentation Aswell Its A Blessing For San Francisco So There Should Be No Yaqui Ofened By This Video Aswell, Videio Taping The Kolencia In The U,S Is Prohibited But, In Mexico It Is Allowed, However, It Is Mainly The Choice Of the Kolencia. Its A Fantastic Video. Lios'em Chokoe Utte'sia.

  • im a yaqui from az and believe me we aint no wannabees...ive got fam in rio yaqui...they just do things different over there than they do in guad!!!------->

  • lol

  • ur not suppose to film the venado or any other sacred things we do thats all there is to it...this is very sacred to a lot of people..this is disrespect to the true yaqui people...

  • About 8 or 9 years ago the Pascua Yaqui Tribe filmed a commercial which featured the Venado and Pascolas for a Casino. I've also seen other videos produced by the Tribe! According to your profile, you were probably 10 yrs old or so when that commercial came out. I guess according to your word the tribe as a whole violated it's own sacred dances.

  • @ldubski that may be but its our traditions so i the tribe can do what they see is necessary. Just saying.

  • @ldubski Yeah but notice how thats by THE TRIBE. We yoeme can do as we please with OUR customs. The only people who violate these kinds of thing are the visitors that go to them. It is quite clear not to bring cellphones, and video and voice recorders. So we can cuz its ours.

  • @ldubski It was probably the Yaqui Mayos. The half Breeds

  • Oh please, get over yourselves. If you allow people to see these videos then they will have greater appreciation for the culture.

  • @0305525001 @yaqui1977 Well Not All Yaqui Pueblos In Tucson Are The Same. In New Pascua It's Different Then In 16th Or 39th. So Thats Not A Fact Thats An Opinion. • @0305525001 Are you not? In that case not this should not have been filmed. But it explains why, as I am interested in all cultures, this is the only culture I can not find any videos of! In a way I am glad they have, because I will not be able to see this otherwise. But I think respect should go before curiosities.

  • Posting this video without the expressed consent of the Yaqui people is unacceptable. Is there a reason why you're continuing to keep this video up after multiple people have expressed concern over its violation of Yaqui sacred tradition? It is crucial to look outside of your own lived experience and realize what may seem acceptable to you by your own standards may be a gross violation of another person's or people's rights and way of life.

  • The people who are expressing their concern over this video do not understand, probably because they are not Yaqui, that this is at a demonstration, and in Mexico. Yaqui people understand, well most, when a Deer Dancer is dancing a sacred dance and this is not.

  • thats rediculous! ur not suppose to film this sacred tradition..im yaqui and ive neveer felt so offended..can't believe sumone one film it then post it..

  • The person who recorded it is Yaqui and they are proud to have video of the Deer Dancer.

  • wow.

this must have been recorded by some white people. Good job non yaqui people for recording something that is sacred. Abuse the privilege that was given to you, and you had to record this, nice good job congratulations for never understanding...centuries later and they still try to own us. Its okay to admit you are ignorant, but after hundreds of years and you still don't get it, thats called arrogance.

    Viva colonization! haha

  • Recorded by a full blooded yaqui. All the Yaquis that have seen this and know me want a copy of this video for themselves. Just goes to show you how much the Yaquis appreciate this video!

  • hey you wanted be yaquis from arizona you guys are like the indians from u.s.a im from potam sonora mex 100% yaqui rise in el bacateta in most sacred land of the yaquis i never heard such things of not recoring the deer dance viva mi raza yaqui the mexico .

  • your not suppose to record it..WTF

  • A traditional performance of the "Dance Of The Deer" (Danza Del Venado), by a teen selected from the Yoreme Mayo or the Yaqui Tribes from the States of Sonora, Sinaloa or Arizona.

The gathering brings together 5 Tribes residing on both sides of Mexico and United States: O'odahms (Pima and Papago), Yoreme Mayo, Yaqui, and Apache.

The instruments used to produced the hypnotic music are all hand made from natural resources.

  • I am a NAVAJO U LOS VENEZOLANO, I am so proud of you guys!!! KEEPON REPPIN!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why did you record this, when it's against tribal rules? Darn you.

  • fantastic..

  • NO FUCKING RETARDED BITCH ASS ILLUSIONAL BORDER SHOULD EVER SPLIT THE YAQUIS, APACHES, AND TOHONO ODHAM AKA (called PAPAGOS in mexico)!on both sides!PEACE and once again thanks 4 posting this!!!

  • THANKS 4 POSTING THIS!!!! VIVA LOS YAQUIS! and it don't matter if USA or MEXICO! VIVA ALL THE YAQUIS! PEACE

  • I am a full-blooded Yaqui women, I was born and raised in the U.S., and yes it is prohibited in our Town of Guadalupe, AZ but society needs to understand-- to our culture this is sacred and many of our elders may disagree that it's not bein exploited. Just be aware that It's a sacred and centuries old religion and probably one of the few surviving traditions we managed to save and are trying very hard to preserve...Peace!

  • 2 years ago when I posted this video there were only about 7 videos of deer dancers and they were all aztecan or some other tribe. Now when you enter deer dancer in the search pane there will be hundreds of hits returned. My point is that if someone wanted to see what a yaqui deer dancer looked like they would have that opportunity here on YouTube. My intent wasn't to exploit or to humiliate Yaqui culture; it was to educate, inform and to make people aware of Yaqui culture.

  • YOUR NOR SUPPOSED TO RECORED THIS!!!!

  • Thanks for posting the video! My mom is Yaqui(so I guess that might make me one, I just don't know how much blood I have), but we don't know a lot about the tribe. So it's wonderful to see something about my native heritage.

  • I was born in Nogales Sonora Mexico. And,I never had the chance to see such a wonderful display of a traditional dance,I dont't beleive that anybody gets hurt by showing a harmless clip to the world to see.

Thank You for sharing. wsvato from Ca.

  • How many people have to tell you they don't appreciate it before you recognize you're hurting people? This is no different from using Indian as mascots. You are setting a dangerous precedent.

  • For you to be comparing this to the use of an indian mascot is ridiculous. This was posted to show the world, educate others about yaqui culture. If you don't appreciate then don't watch it!

  • this one is for the demonstration of our cultuer if it were for the ritual it be done at the traditional citys like potam or vikam in the communitys

  • what the heck ndalyte? i'm yoemem and i totally appreciate that this is posted. it's called awareness, and it's a start, recording and documenting our culture and passing it to our children. who are you to say what harm has been done by indian mascots, this is a totally different thing.

  • no respect for a sacred deer dance. no hay respecto por favor dont film it. gracias.

  • This filming was done during a DEMONSTRATION at the Fiesta de Kino. The yaqui tribe has filmed deer dancers for commercial reasons and I have spoken to tribal members about the filming of the deer dancer so you can't say that the tribe is against it. My point is that there are times when it is totally inappropriate to film the deer dancer and there are times when it has been encouraged, to promote culture and to educate others about the yaqui deer dancer.

  • I'm a 1/4 blood grandson of woman, who in 1906, at 6 months old, was carried across the border, by her yoeme(Yaqui) family, to escape the infamous genocide of the dictator Dias(the white washed "Zapoteca"), & I very much appreciate your posting this educational video. And I hope I'll be finding more resources, here or elsewhere, to help me to learn about my Yoeme heritage. Thank you so much!

  • this is a violation. you have no right to film him dancing this sacred dance. I will report it to the tribe.

  • Let me ask you this "Who is to say that this is a violation?. Most of the time the Deer Dancer is dancing during a fiesta or other significant cultural event, like during the lenten season. During the lenten season I would not think of videotaping the deer dancer.

  • Do you mean that you didn't even ask?

  • Did I personally ask to film this dancer? No. Did the demonstrators indicate that it was okay? Yes. For some reason the yaquis in Mexico don't prohibit filming or photographing of sacred dances. In the US they're against it especially during lent. As you can see here on YouTube that there are many videos of Yaqui Lenten ceremonies. I'm not condoning the filming of Lenten ceremonies, but the difference in attitudes between American Yaquis and Mexican Yaquis is interesting.

  • I suppose that's good enough. I'm just saying that if you specifically, personally asked in the future you could respond to all the angry comments with "I had permission to film this" and maybe even put some text at the beginning explaining. Some might still get upset, but I bet it would help.

  • una gran aportacion ya hacia falta algo asi..gracias por este video genuino y autentico ...

  • EXCELLENT VIDEO; THANKS-

  • This video is against tribel rules.
