  • A strange one this - a great piece of British music played very well by an excellent French orchestra. I also like the fact that it is stripped of the breat beating nationalism of the singalong, which was never Elgar's intention. We are left with a very inspiring piece of music, which is the common language of all nations. Love it!

  • So British ! Je préfére Mendelson , Strauss....marches plus entrainantes et pétillantes ! Mais Elgar, vous avez beaucoup de talent !

  • Greetings!

  • Good save Elgar !

  • So British, yeah I like it.. it sound like a stubborn old man who refuse the realities of the modern day.. that's a complement though.

  • wow im addicted to this song. thx to my school's orchestra.

  • maybe it' represents the Goddess of Liberty or Peace or sth like that

  • oh wow wish I was there!

  • LOL..

Is the woman-thing supposed to be Queen Elizabeth or something? Where does this take place? We had to play this piece last year.

  • Whats that thing crossing the bridge? All European countries seem to do this! Weird ass dancers and floats in parades and festivals the have no relativity to the culture of the country. I live in Dublin and every Paddy's Day the parade is filled with creepy dancers and floats relating to absolutely nothing in our culture. It's odd. It's creepy. I don't like it. Fantastic piece by Elgar though :)

  • Maybe it's the spirit of surrender. That's probably the reason the Frenchies next to it are all waving white flags.

  • I have to say it... i'm not english but i'm proud by this music being composed by a great european composer which is Edgar Elgar... i like it very much!

  • im in 7th grade and we gotta play pomp and circumstance in my school BAND... not with string instruments but just a cheap school band but on saturday we won a statewide competition in first place against 17 bands

  • Just what is that supposed to be that is ambling across the bridge?

  • Kind of gives me the creeps!

  • I just love it when so many nationalities play this so British piece of Elgar. Look at my favourites to hear a superb Japanese rendition. (Just now it seems to really be land of hope...!!)

  • i like tall girls

  • i only really like it from 4:30...

  • Does anyone know why the Freanch played this at the G7 summit ? Shame they couldn't reach a French choir to sing 'land of hope and glory' too ...lol

all together now... land of hope and glory, mother of the free ...

I love Britain, but most of all I live England and yes, this should be the English National Anthem !

  • you are unbelievably wrong Tchaikovsky was Russian Greig was Norwegian and Sir Edwar Elgar was British he wrote Pomp and Circumstance

  • Nonsense...Tchaivosky was half spanish, half Icelandic but his mother gave birth to him in Russia during the first civil uprising of the Russian people against the then capitalistic regime.

Elgar had Scottish blood although admittedly he had done most of his compositions in England. Few people know he was also an accomplished architect.....

You are right about Grieg....he is the most famous Danish composer....

    Beveiks...can you confirm??

  • Guzpipe78, your erudition is amazing. Not so sure as to Elgar's scottish part though. His grandfather was Bryan or Ryan O'Caleharty, notorious opium dealer and Oscar Wilde friend. Tchaivosky's biological father was famous Russian naval constructor Jösef von Chenbrivskii, of Mongol origins (as most russians) and the uprising was probably against the Turkish invasion of Rhodes, but I would not insist on the exactitude of this last historical point.

  • since when did Grieg become Danish ? He did stay in Denmark indeed, but he is norwegian..

  • Tchaikovsky was Italian, Tchaikovsky was quoted as saying "I'm originally Italian, but I changed my name and grew up in Russia with Russian parents to confuse people."

  • you are wrong Sir Edward Elgar wrote this Pomp and Circumstance Tchaikovsky was Russian and Grieg was Norwegian and Elgar was British

  • Only a veritable idiot would ever state that Ryan O' Caleharty was Eldgar's grandfather. Caleharty was the grandfather of Moussorsky's father, Sergej zammitinsky who was nicknamed "the loveable!" You got the naval constructor bit right. A business he had opened with Francis Vassallivski. Rhodes was an impregnable fortress in the black sea and not in the meditteranean. It floated in the meditteranean a few years ago because of global warming.

  • Sorry I failed to notice that the composer of this music is not the Austrian composer Tchaikovsky but the Latvian composer Grieg.

  • Guzoppi78, Grieg is greek.

  • What does golfing from "the rough"have to do with this beautiful Czech music?

  • Grieg and Thcaikowsky played golf together in Bohemia, of course.

  • Yes! Thats why in our country we are building more golf courses to attract such composers who will come for 'composing tournaments".....

  • Yeah, and where would that be? Disneyworld, or Alice's Wonderland?

  • This conductor is perfect for Tchaikovsky as in this piece. Brilliant!!!

  • They played through the repeat at F! :P Great performance though, thanks for posting!

  • je n'aime pas trop la mise en scène, mais la musique est superbe !

  • You Brits are the best! Thanks for your music and for being such faithful allies with the United States!

  • Its great to see not everyone on youtube hates us!

    Thumbs up!

  • very well done!!

  • luv this

  • Yes, very strange. I'm British.

  • Very strange that this very patriotic British song was perfomed (very well) in France.

  • excelente. Buena música de triunfo. Unica en su genero.

  • So Proud.... what a breath of fresh air

  • This music is the work of one of Britain's most illustrious composers - Sir Edward Elgar, born and bred in the beautiful Malvern Hills, of Worcestershire and Herefordshire, in Western England. Glorious countryside of green meadows and hillsides and woodlands - some of England's finest rural scenes which Sir Edward loved so much and inspired his inspirational English musical piece - Land of Hope and Glory. It should be the UK's National Anthem. I am so proud of it, and my country.

  • yes very beautiful country...and another glorius at malvern hills: Morgan the most authentical works of sportscars...i am an morgan owner...and also Sir E.Elgar fan...

  • Bravo, Lyon Orchestra

  • Brava, brava, bravissima

  • This is awesome!!It's great

  • This is one of my favourite melodies. Brings me to tears.

  • the smashing pumpkins finally graduated!

  • maestoso, scenografico!
