look up tony royster jr on david letterman playing this same song. i hate to say it but tony blows this away easily. i watched buddy since the early 1960's and he ran out of ideas and every solo was the same .
@Boe1771 Yes, there were times he did that. He also played an incredible double bass drum solo one time. Why he never adopted that like Louie Bellson did I don't know. But one thing is for certain he could do anything he wanted on the drums.
I have never seen any drummer as talented as Buddy Rich! I watched him live on TV when I was a small child and it was wild! He was fun to watch when he let the smile go just before letting you have it.
You noticed he was using match grip too! He always said he hated when durmmers exclusively use that grip. But, you are correct, he's the best regardless of what grip he chooses to use. It's almost as if he's saying "this isn't my grip of choice and I'm still the best" :-)
@4against1 haha if you honestly think so you know nothing about music
dipshit, travis is alright but he's got double bass and all these other special advances for drumming, buddy used a single bass pedal and still managed to play better than travis or whoever the hell you think is good. people like you piss me off so much sometimes
@4against1 buddy rich is the most amazing drummer travis barker is just a for show drummer that everybody thinks is cool but in reality he plays shit that that anyone can learn in an hour there is no reason to bring his name up in any drum video ever he isnt even that good of a drummer..
@wyzyrddrummer Watch Buddy's videos for 1970 53 yrs old and 1978 (at the Hague) when he was 61 years old. Amazing stuff. Even at 70 playing with Frank Sinatra he kicked butt. I recommend that serious drummers watch every video they can watch to see how this guy's career developed, his style; his technique, etc. If you can play only 40% of what Buddy could play you can copy virtually any drummer playing today.

Well, Buddy was fast, but somehow this solo doesn't fit the tune.
jeromegraves23 3 months ago
@jeromegraves23
I agree
not much feel to this solo at all
are we missing too much top? difficult to hear much on these type of recording esp when he is that fast
just sounds all bottom and blurry - plus they were not big on muffing/dampening the sounds down in them days

@incogneterpeter Don't get me wrong, Barker is very good but comparing him to Buddy would be like comparing NASCAR to Formula 1.
OBXmp9 2 months ago
@OBXmp9 No, its more like comparing a Hasbro Tonka toy Truck to a Formula 1.
