Having a script would definitely be one of the first steps when working on a soundtrack. Knowing how scenes are written to be played out will help you to know what type of soundtrack you need to supply. Knowing how a particular dance scene is to be played out will determine what type of music the actors and actresses should be dancing to.
I to was very shocked how expensive music for a film can get, that is why directors like John carpenter create their own scores to cut down on expenses. Often times people in our business work on low budget films with no budget for top name music talent.
So much money is used on music but it almost seems that in musicals or movies that revolve around the music like footloose would almost dedicate more of their budget to the music.
There are some movies that are good to remake, but honestly most of the movies they remake are better as the classic original one. They should be spending the money on coming up with NEW ideas, rather than on using old ones.
Maybe their finally learning to spend LESS money on movie production, rather than spending 'millions of dollars' on a remake of a movie that will go straight to video.
WOW our weak economy effects so much lol. I How that art doesn't disappear from the scene. Its very important that artists such as this one make good livings off of outstanding pieces
I find it interested that some companies will either wait till after the movie is filmed to add the music and others will have it created along with the film.
Is it wrong to make money from our art? Or is it wrong to make money from something we enjoy? Some people have fun doing this and make a living at it too.
Good point you made but riddle me this. . . .to what extent should art sale its soul to these execs who take music and make it their own. every song ever created thrived from inspiration, and lived with a purpose, so does a spot in a movie as background "noise" fulthfill this purpose or is the pursuit of profit the artists intentions all along?
I feel the "art" has fullfilled its purpose the moment the artist completes it. Personal satisfaction... If someone else gets some enjoyment from it, bonus. If you can get paid for it, or a derivative of it, as well....chingon.

I never really thought about how much it costs just for the music alone.

It is really surprising all of the decisions that have to be made for a movie and also how much money goes into the creation of the movie.

The more money spent on a movie the better, there are few movies that spend very little and do very well.

Crazy how movies are budgeted. Too much money wasted, i agree... I think the whole world should convert away from the entertainment industry.
