Wasn't B.K. murdered by his wife and her boyfriend? In fact, the reporter stated it was ironic that "the Cheater" turned out to be his own wife. I believe he was found in a sewage tank.
First time I ever sawr Bob Kuban and the In-Men was in '66 at St. Martin of Tours School in Washington Park, Ill. I was mezmerized. It was big, Big, BIG to be able to have "Kuban" We kids handled over $ 3.50 gladly. This was a weeknight, too....
My Dad came by about 10:45 (dance over at 11) and they let him in to wait. He told me afterwards that HE REALLY ENJOYED listening to them. I was like,,,,Blown away....My Dad, a Glen Miller type person.....
Nice interview. Bob is the man when it comes to music in and around St. Louis. I played The Ranch Room (downstairs) around the time Bob, Walter and the In-Men were working upstairs at George Edick's Club Imperial Ballroom. Walter was the reason I put the trumpet down and picked up a mic. He was always a nice guy. I last Walter at his place in Cypress Gardens Apartments.
These were the best of times. We ROCKED THE HOUSE, from Club Imperial to Valsco's,Jackson Pk, 7 Holy Foundrs,St. Benedict's in Lawrence, KS, jumpin' with the Russ David Band at hi-end locals like Memphis & St. Louis Country Clubs for debutante parties. It was very cool. I met Walter in Dallas early '83. He was working the lounge in my hotel. Many drinks! REUNION CONCERT! He disappeared that Christmas. The only other regret is all seven of us weren't on Bandstand. Harry and Skip deserved it. Pat H
Little Walter Scott was murdered by his wife and her boyfriend. They dumped his body in a well on their property in St Charles. It's kind of ironic that his wife was a cheater!!!!!
I was in attendance at Jackson Park when Walter Scott first sang with Kuban it was magic every wed night in the summer with them playing on the tennis courts. Great memories still
This was suck a kick watching this clip. Being a "north county" gal myself and remembering the days at Club Imperial, the dance venues and hanging around the band for a few years in the 60's was great fun...and well...fond memories...LOL
At least every other city has somebody like that, a locsl stalwart making a decent living in, out or along with music long after a brush with the big time. Around here in Philly(and in his native Virginia), there was Bill Deal("May I" "(I've Been)Hurt"-R.I.P.) and the Rhondells, as well as the Magificent Men("Peace of Mind"). They're not has-beens among the people who know them best.
It's the Summer of `66 and I can still see in my mind's eye ~ big, bad and bald Nate Williams from Harlem (though he was actually from Montclair, NJ) with his nostrils flaring as he would let out "Look oooout for the Cheater, he's gonna build you up just to let you down!" ... But little David Chavies beat him to the punch! Uh-uh-uh...
Bob's comment that he doesn't look back because he wound up where God wanted him to go are the words of a wise man. Vietnam might have interferred with his quest for Australia and Rolling Stone success but it just as easily might have been his death bed too. Look at all these years he's given so much to us all. Teen Towns and Club Imperial were my life and that of all my friends for all those St. Louis growing up years. Dancing to Bob Kuban's music was a big part of that. Thanks, Bob.
I have known Bob Kuban since I was 13 years old. My Mom and dad would take me to the President Cruise boat in St Louis to see his band. You would not know by talking to him that he had a big hit and knows many famous people. He has always treated me as if we were close friends. If you get a chance to go see him in person do not be afraid to ask for an autograph. He is just a great person. I am glad to him get some recognition.
Thanks for posting this very informative interview about Bob Kuban. I didn't really know all that much about him, except for "The Cheater" until now. Was really cool to see the "American Bandstand" appearance.
I just want you to know that you have been an idol to me for a very long time. I have never talked to you much but I did set in on bass in your band back in the middle 60's.
I have played music for a long time and have always admired the way you have handled yourself and your band in the music industry. You take care and keep up the great work for a very long time.

Strange how Wally Scott made the band and he is the most interesting part of the clip. Not a happy ending though.
I bought this album when it came out and left it at some ones house. Bummer.
