But then I accidentally ran over a mafia member in the bus and when the guys all got out of the bus they gang-raped the mafia guys D:

I hope the Mercenaries series or Star Wars: Battlefront series can be rebooted somehow. Even if Pandemic Studios is shut down now, dozens of their workers have actually migrated to potentially successful developers, such as "343 Industries", the people working on Halo 4 right now! I remember when i about 9 and it was my birthday in February and i saw this game in a leaflet from a starwars game, this game came out a few days after my birthday so i asked my parents if i could get it because it looked good.

Mercs 1 was so much fun and intense. However, mercs 2 was buggy, ugly, poorly designed and just plain bad. It mad me lose all faith in pandemic entertainment. I didn't shed a tear after they fucked up the sequel to one of my favorite games. Such a letdown.
On the topic of the score.. This song is so epic. I remember sitting at the start menu just for this specific score.

@SanaroTheHedgehog Hell yes, I loved that game. I remember running around as Han Solo and placing 8 packets of C4 around a car and rocketing it in to space. I played it just the other day for the first time in a few years and as soon as I herd the music in this video, around 100 million memory's of shooting and blowing shit up came flooding back. EA really know how to fuck some games up! Mercs 2 just felt cheap and didn't match up to this at all! And they made all the characters assholes, where as in Mercs POD they were all awesome slick and badass!
Its a shame the full pandemic studios became defunct in 2009, but most of the team is with EA now and they will hopefull not ruin Mercs Inc!

This game was the fucking bomb... like seriously. PS2 still kicks the crap out of Xbox and PS3 for the sheer amount of fun, quality games. This kept me busy for hundred of hours. Resident Evil 4, MGS3, Ace Combat, San Andreas, Battlefront... All amazing games.
Lucas Arts knows how to make great games. Its a shame Mercs 2 was a huge fuck up.
Give me games. Only ones I really have are Halo CE and Crimson Skies and Knights of the Old Republic. PS2 had better exlusives. Those few games I described have kept me busy for over 5 years. There are very few games that have been able to do that.

Well, Mercs was also on the PS2 and Fable is the only one I've played out of the ones you named. PS2 had better quality games, and it had a lot of them. Most great games on the xbox were also on the PS2 so I just consider it a better overall system.
@Testement117 The PS2 had like an infinity of games available but that much is obvious. The console had time to gather IPs and deals with publishers during it's obvious monopoly that lasted from 1994 (when the first PS was launched) to 2002 (when the Xbox went worldwide).
There's no point in arguing about sheer numbers here. I was just saying the medium quality of the games available, IMO, was superior on the Xbox (possibly because of the hardware advantage too).
I guess you're right. Overall, most xbox games were either great or good. Not too many lemons. Meanwhile, the PS2 had a few greats mixed in with a shitload of lemons. But, I'll still standby and say those few greats are what made the system what it is. Hell, I bought a PS2 just so I could play San Andreas, and Metal Gear Solid 3.
I am in no way a PS "fanboi" I always buy the system with a better lineup of games. Any games even worth attention are either on both the xbox or PS3

The original Xbox had more power its a fact, so games that were on both systems had a slightly better xbox version also.

anyone know how to rip this from the PS2 version other than hooking my PS2 up to my PC via line-in. I found the .MIB files in the music folder but I cannot get them to play right in MFAudio. need the right settings.
EA intentionally made Mercs 2 a piece of shit. It's what they've done to pretty much every good game--buy out the studio after they've produced a really good game, then half-ass the next game to maximize profits and then leave the entire series up shit creek without a paddle. Maybe a broken paddle, if they're lucky.

@HptProductions Pandemic was never under LucasArts. That was a star wars game so it was produced by LucasArts. Pandemic was always under EA, and unlike Activision, EA is just.
One of the most exciting, hard hitting, in your face games i've ever had my pleasure to play. This is definately in my list of top games, even compared to some next-gen games. The storyline, the graphics, the perfect ammount of punchlines... it's hard to find a game these days that even compares to it.
EA is just a horrible publisher, absolutley ruined Mercs 2, taking the fun out of it with the removal of such things as cheats, changing the background stories of the Mercs, changing major factions in the game... The list goes on.
Then EA delivered the final blow with Pandemic being dissolved, those guys were doing incredibly well up until EA acquired them.
@lieutenanterrrrrrrr I completely agree with you on all accounts. Lets hope LucasArts gets it back and makes it better IF they do have plans for a Mercs 3. I am hoping that a 3rd installment does come out though, because these games are so fun and addicting.
There's no Mercs 3. They'll replace it for Mercs Inc. It's gonna be some kind of Mercs 3, BUT it's gonna an MMO. So imagine playing WoW Mercenaries Style.
The theatrics of Mercenaries: PoD made this game. The surreality of it worked because it was cinematic. They couldn't pull it off right in Mercs 2, and that made it fail where it should've succeeded. My other problem with what they did in Mercs 2 was remove the gritty humor, they tried to make it appeal too much to the target audience (young children) by making it crude and stupid.
Mercenaries 2 was horribly rushed by developers not yet comfortable with the next generation of console development. Mercenaries 1 was a perfectly crafted masterpiece without equal even today.
@Strike86 mercenaries 1 was no where near perfect. Poor graphics and dumb AI took away from this game, but it was still really fun and addictive overall.
This music and game is so fun game and for those 4 dislikers i hope one day get killed by macenaries for they stupidity actually

@StevXtreme ever play Mech Assault, Brute Force or Metal Arms: glitch in the system, all are amazing games.
also i noticed that you were listing games that both xbox and ps2 ( at least for the most part) had but you expect that you have good xbox exclusives listed to you when you didnt list a single good ps2 exclusive.
The original Xbox had more power its a fact, so games that were on both systems had a slightly better xbox version also.

@XxCaptmetaldayxX I never said that Xbox had better EXCLUSIVES. I said it had a more mature line-up of games. Never said the PS2 didn't have its fair share of mature, quality games. That's why some of the games I listed were on the PS2 also.
Basically I was talking about the higher general standard on the original Xbox. Now it's all the same.

The franchise made good money. EA WILL make another Mercenaries, but it will never be on par with this masterpiece.

anyone know how to rip this from the PS2 version other than hooking my PS2 up to my PC via line-in. I found the .MIB files in the music folder but I cannot get them to play right in MFAudio. need the right settings.

EA intentionally made Mercs 2 a piece of shit. It's what they've done to pretty much every good game--buy out the studio after they've produced a really good game, then half-ass the next game to maximize profits and then leave the entire series up shit creek without a paddle. Maybe a broken paddle, if they're lucky.
If you're reading this EA, I want you to know that I think you should take your DRM and yourself and go fuck yourself (since no one else will).

@greifenhagen15 No, of course not. I love the first one--it's been years since it came out and I still play it along with my PS3 games. Yup. The only reason I still have my PS2 is because of Mercs 1.
What I'm saying is that Mercs 2 could have been much better, but instead EA came along and made it worse.

@BlingBling1347 dude you're confusing EA with Activision. either way they are both publishers not developers, they dont make the games. pandemic half assed the second game and made it shit. Activision did exactly what you said with the COD series because they are money hungry game killers, they did it with guitar hero and now are doing it with call of duty. EA is a pretty just publisher, they are the opposite of activision.

One of the most exciting, hard hitting, in your face games i've ever had my pleasure to play. This is definately in my list of top games, even compared to some next-gen games. The storyline, the graphics, the perfect ammount of punchlines... it's hard to find a game these days that even compares to it.

EA is just a horrible publisher, absolutley ruined Mercs 2, taking the fun out of it with the removal of such things as cheats, changing the background stories of the Mercs, changing major factions in the game... The list goes on.
Then EA delivered the final blow with Pandemic being dissolved, those guys were doing incredibly well up until EA acquired them.

@lieutenanterrrrrrrr I completely agree with you on all accounts. Lets hope LucasArts gets it back and makes it better IF they do have plans for a Mercs 3. I am hoping that a 3rd installment does come out though, because these games are so fun and addicting.

The theatrics of Mercenaries: PoD made this game. The surreality of it worked because it was cinematic. They couldn't pull it off right in Mercs 2, and that made it fail where it should've succeeded. My other problem with what they did in Mercs 2 was remove the gritty humor, they tried to make it appeal too much to the target audience (young children) by making it crude and stupid.
And where was Mattias's badass Swedish accent?!?

Mercenaries 2 was horribly rushed by developers not yet comfortable with the next generation of console development. Mercenaries 1 was a perfectly crafted masterpiece without equal even today.
The soundtrack kicks, too.
