Hi..I have designed it for five bands... but I have problem ikn aligning them in breadboards to get a good display..yours is awesome with twelve breadboards.. I am using three bread boards... suggestions please
I'm using the LM3914 - one for each band (I dont see too many drivers on your circuit). I'm looking at building my active bandpass filters around the LM833N high gain bandwidth dual Op Amp. Any ideas? Suggestions? Do you have a project page?
LM3915 has a vu-meter scale and the LM3914 has a linear scale. My analyzer uses 2 of LM3915 because it works in multiplexer display. Each LM3915 drives an half of display (80 LEDs). The filters are based on LM324
I am designing a stereo graphic equalizer w/ 2-5x10 displays. My present design has 60 transistors for the display. Designing using LM3916 but the 3914 is 1/3 the price. contemplating
My new analyzer has 68 transistors, 41 integrated circuit, 280 LEDs for the display and few hundreds of resistor and capacitors. I use the LM3915, but i'm looking for the LM3916 (i can't find this IC...)
do you think that you could shoot me the schematics for your design?? I was attempting to build the velleman k4300 but the u2067b is obsolete. then i started seeing that the lm3916 can be a "replacement" for it which then led me here... So any help at all would be awesome!
(BTW i am 22 goin to college for audio production and freaked my teacher out by taking on this project as a final LOL)
Hello looks like you know a lot about electronics, don't you mind if I ask you if is a good idea to use an Real-time clock to make a chronometer that should be accurate to milliseconds? or even if it is possible to make it accurate to microseconds?
There is a popular 3rd order filter design using only one op amp stage, but output needs buffering. But the buffer stage is also used for the averaging rectifier.
dude finally buy a real camera and dont use this cheap mobilephone to do youtube videos.

Ok, the new spectrum analyzer is in construction. I'll put the video here in YT soon.

WTF, why didnt you built it on a circuit board?

Is there any real advantage to using a LM3915 over a LM3916 - which would be an actual VU meter.
I'm designing something similar, but I was planning on using a couple of LM3916 at the end of Op amps. But every body seems to be using LM3915's.

News:
Ok, now i'm working to a new audio spectrum analyzer.
This analyzer has 28 bands (yes, twenty-eight), the frequencies are third of octave.
The display has 280 LEDs. It works like the "old" analyzer (multiplex mode).

Could I buy this off you, its nearly impossible to get the parts here in New Zealand.

Im only going for stereo 5 band EQ unit. Using the filters in the AND8177/D application notes. uses less caps.
The LM3916 are easy to find here in the states. At $4+ per.
I located lots of LM3914's for $1.75 per but need to use a Logarithmic amp for input. Having trouble inserting into TINA simulator with good results.

Try digikey, it will still cost a fair bit, about $3 per LM3916. I think the LM3916 has a linear response while the LM3915 has a log response.

The LM3916 has a vu-meter response, the LM3915
has a log response and the LM3914 has a linear response. Check datasheets to see the difference.

What did you use to drive the LEDs and what is your bandpass filter based off?
Nice work...
blaxpear 4 years ago
LEDs driver = LM3915
Filters = inverting 2nd order passband filters

That is the idea I used with my analyzer.
