Hi, yes it's true that people who speak Slovak Czech to understand. Reverse is also true. Until 1993 there was only one state - Czechoslovakia. And the languages are very similar. Most people Slovak / Czech language on TV or in life to understand, they are not surprised. I would compare it to the difference between American and British English.
