It was not as emotional as David Tennant but he still showed signs of depression. I think he learned from his previous incarnation, that's why he said he didn't want to "die" alone at Lake Silencio. He regenerated alone and that was a terrible experience for him.

They wanted him to be all upbeat and bounding with joy so that as he began his descent after Series 4 (although briefly after losing Rose the first time) he would become more sullen but equally determined. But you must not be watching that hard, because he did make jokes, compliments and had fun. It wasn't 24/7, "I don't wanna go" for a lot of his tenure

I've just had a really cool theory about the Doctor's "Death". Well here goes. The Silence opened the cracks in time right? Then the Doctor closed them again. Well what if the Silence reopened the cracks after the astronaut killed the doctor. With me so far? Just suppose the Silence have no control over which eras and events the cracks erase from time, and they accidently erase the Doctor's death. Then as he dosen't die, he is able to defeat them and reclose the cracks? Get it?

@TsoLan1 You can't just "open" and "close" the cracks. They were only there in the first place because the Silence blew up the TARDIS and destroyed reality. The Doctor was only able to remove them because he had the Pandorica's restoration field.

The fact there are now no cracks means the Silence never at any point blow up the TARDIS again. The lack of the cracks means the Pandorica never gets built, so the Doctor wouldn't be able to close them. Basically everything you propose is impossible.

I've been thinking about how Moffatt would get around killing The Doctor in the first episode of the new series, and as per Moffatt as already given the answer to the problem but I dont think anyone's noticed it. I personally think The Doctor which dies at the Lake is not even the actual Doctor, but only a flesh avatar which was created somewhere down the line, and he sends the avatar to die on his behalf.

I'm interested as to how this is going to go. Because we can see from the trailer that The Doctor knows about the astronaut, and the series leads up to his death on the beach. But it's been announced that there's going to be another series (and in fact Matt Smith hads said he intends to stay until its 50th anniversary in 2013, so another two series at least)... surely they're not going to bridge the gap with two series to end with the doctor dying like in series 6? That'd be an awful end
