My family were great supporters of King Faisal, when he got over thrown their huge land got redistributed to the poor people of Iraq, my family decided to leave iraq, a few staid. Today I can say, Qassim did the right thing, he was a great man just like his followers and supporters!

Why does anyone(even Abrabs) praise this man? Qasim was a hotbed communist. He threatened to invade Kuwait and proclaimed it as part of Iraqi territory(just like what Saddam said when he attacked Kuwait in 1990), engaging in indiscriminate bombing by the Iraqi Air Force against the Kuridish population in early 60s, and aliged himself with the Soviets. Een though had made good reforms like Saddam, he was like Saddam a person that are willing to commit genocide overseas.

@1killer2lover3hater Qasim was a communist who lay in bed with the Soviets and the Baath Party led by Saddam was more about dictatorship(Which is later in the 70s until 2003). I don't care whether it was part of Iraq or not, Kuwait was independent nation from the UK in 1961 and had membership of the UN. Qasim and Saddam Hussein had no right to go out and annexed Kuwait since it would totally elinimate the membership of a UN as well as being a soveign nation and Kuwat had not threatened them.

@publicmario17 qasim got in office in 58 if kuwait got independence in 61. he was a communist but he disagreed so much with them which is why they killed him . he didnt go to war with kuwait. saddam was partially right about invading kuwait; and remember even the u.s supported him at first. but then he made a mistake of trying to occupy it which the u.n described as genocide. if your asking why did he invade, they were stealing petroleum. as for the kurds they never respect an arab ruler.

The reason why America and it's allies were there because Iraq would invade Saudi Arabia, it would have a bad effect in our economy but the Iraqi Army was killed a lot of Kuwati people. 2nd reason why we were there to defend Kuwait. stop trying and defending Saddam Hussein's invasion. Actually we were never meant to be friends. If we were really good friends, then we would not intervened in the 1991 Gulf War in the 1st place. Even though we were allies, we were NOT meant to be friends. We weren't going so well. The US never gave Saddam WMDs, most of them came from Europe. As soon we discovers Saddam's WMDs program we banned out trades with Iraq completely. Also Kuwait is our ally and we still supplied weapons to them prior to the 1990 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.

But the War in Iraq had mostly with Saddam violation of a ceasefire agreement that he allowed UN inspectors to check his WMDs program WHICH HE DIDN'T. UN 687 required that if Iraq doesn't comply, then UN would come in and force you. UN inspectors was there from 1991-1998 but had a hard time...

trying to access to Saddam's WMDs programs because Iraqi officials kept on blocking their inspections and even booted them out many times, putting Iraq into violation of a ceasefire which allowed the use of force against Iraq to force compliance. That's why 1991 Gulf War never ended as it was never a peace treaty signed into ending the War as it was still in effect, USA bombed Baghdad in 1998 and there were years between Iraqi forces and Coalition aircraft in the no-fly zones.

I was 8 years old when a very close friend of my father by the name of Taha al-Sheikh Ahmad used to visit us. He was a very kind and nice man whome I adored but sadly he was executed with General Qassim. My father who was a colonel in the army at the time was imprisoned by the new regime and after releasing him we left for England. Abdul Karim Qassim was a very unique and honourable leader the like of which Iraq will never see again. Iraq and her oil will always be ruled by the west :(
