if you get the error formatting data you need to have the latest version of clockwork mod which is 3. 2. 0. 1 currently.. if you get to the install from zip and it says its (bad) then you need to go to the xda developers site and look for Dizzy Dens post on feb 22 and download the appropriate one for your needs. The 1st works for full restore to stock. this video tutorial is handy, he just needs to post the updated links

Thank you very much. I had troubles with Cyanogen Mod 7 running apps, I think due to newer Android versions required. When I used the powere button technique to revert back to B&N it hung up. This method worked nicely. Next step will be to try to use a newer Android platform running side by side. Thanks again. Nice job. JMK

I did everything, put my sd card in my nook, followed all the steps, it turns on, but gets stuck on the nook color page and won't go any further! I've tried doing the process again, I've tried turning it on by holding down the power and nook button and nothing. In the clockwork setup I did have an error on formatting the data, but that happened when I was rooting too. Please HELP!!!

hey! im trying to do it but there was a step where my computer or better yet the Win32 didnt show me the 3 dots but a folder and i had to do it all over so that i placed the clock work into a folder piont it i did everything and at the end when i was supposed to pick the nook file on the sd card it said it couldnt

1) Google 1gb_clockwork-3.2.0.1-eyeballer.zip. This is the latest update for Clockwork Mod. The one he has is out of date. It won't matter that it's for 1GB and your SD card is larger than that.
2) The Nook Color restore file he has in his info is also out of date. It won't work for the 3.0, you'll need to google a restore for your current version.
It should work if you follow his steps. He just doesn't have the updated software.
@AshleyCheewah I had the same problem. The mistake I made was I unzipped the nook-complete-restore download and copied that folder onto the SD card. Once I copied the nook-complete-restore zip onto the SD card, it worked fine. Hope this helps
Was thinking about rooting my nook color, but had some doubts. Now I know if I mess up it can still be saved.

You're not going answer any of us are you? I mean you could at least say "I dont know guys, I'm working on it". This "error/formatting data" issue is obviously pretty prevalent which is caused by software you provided us. So you are responsible for some explanation.

Hi All, I just finished successfully getting my nook back to unrooted status and I am so happy. I also had trouble with the error of formatting data. I follor k9style2k'x directions to the T by doing the eight interrupted boots twice. After I did the first eight interrupted boots, I moved on to method 2 of clearing the data but it still didn't work it got stuck on the nook color rainbow scrolling letters. I had to do the eight interrupted boots twice. Afterwards, it worked! Yay!

So I just ignored the formatting error, and now its stuck on an infinite boot loop. Its just the nook color by barnes and noble screen, that the light goes across the letters and back. then the screen goes dark and repeats. I have rebooted it 5 times so far, but its still doing it.

I kept having problems with the nook complete restore zip. Every time I tried to install it on the rooted nook it would say it couldn't open it and aborted the install. I determined that the file wasn't downloading all the way to my computer. It would only download 117 mb's. So after downloading about ten or fifteen different times it finally loaded all 159 mb's, like was mentioned in the video. It finally worked!

Ahh, so sorry but I can not get the clock work mod link to cooperate. It says opps can not connect to legacy schools. Not sure if its having maintenance now or just been taken down is there an alternate link i can use to get the 2g file. Thanks
any help with "error formating data" seems like everyone is having this problem and then once it boots up its missing all sorts of stuff and is basically unusable

I was able to follow you until about 6 minutes in (go to desktop and click on the clockworkmod), but I have windows 7 and I could find the file when I back track under c:/...users/desktop. My Nook Color has been bricked for 6 months and this was the first good help I found. Do you know where I could find the instructions for using Windows 7, by chance? I would truly appreciate your help!
@Prechaun45 you must be using Windows 7, try using a MicroSD adapter with a USB Reader, something about the USB write speed with the card adapter.. dont know what it is, but It works when i use a USB card Reader. Good Luck..
@Prechaun45 You have to download the correct one. It asks for the type of memory card you have and you select the one with the amount of memory. remember to delete all the other things on SD card
My nook just starts up normally when I start it with the SD card inserted. I think I created it correctly -- is there a way to check? But Windows didn't want to eject it after I wrote it, even though it seemed to be done. Any ideas?
Had the issue with the format data error and tried azncutiemee method and got me to the nook color screen. Its been loading and rebooting iin that screen for a while. hopefully it stops and i can use my nook again. thanks for the video and the comments

Please help. I can get my NC to work ONLY if I shut it down and restart without the microsd card in the slot. It will not recognize the card even after I insert it. I can only shut it down by holding the power and n buttons. When I try to shut down from menus it locks up. Please help.

@truedemon18 I don't think you can recover your nooks. * Why?* ( This is all based on my knowledge ) Most *RESTORING/UNROOT* means it deletes almsot everything, and it turns back to *FACTORY SETTING*. Im not sure but correct me if im wrong.... PS: If there is a *BACKUP FEATURE* on nook and you backed up it might save all your books and etc....

My nook was rooted with Honeycomb on it. When I restored it to factory it seemed to work fine but when I get to the part where it tells me to login I get an error message that says we are unable to set up you nook color. Then it gives me the option to reset it power it off or get device info. Any idea what I could have done or why it would be doing this?
I did everything as Alex did in this video (just like the rooting video), and I got the same error both times with the format data error. @huskermania just wondering, my issue is that for some reason i had a 1gb sd card and i used the 1 gb download, still it did not fit. so i tried zipping that file (for some reason idk why) and i got it messed up on the data formatiing part. it said error. so i got angry and stayed up until 6 am to try to unroot it. now. i have version 1.01 and 1.2 is not installing for some reason even though i have the file in there. and for some reason i have 0 space on my NookColor drive. can u explain?

if you boot into 1.0.1 and register everything do you automatically get updates? My NC went into installing updates, and just kept doing that over and over. Trying to unbrick once again....

Hey for those with 1.2 NC with the "format data" problem it{s not a big deal. Well, it probably is, however follow the instructions of this video and when you reset data and the error message appears just ignore it and keep going; everything should work fine.
When I rooted my NC, I needed to dload the partition files from xda developer due to the error with the "format data" as I have a newer NC. When I went to unroot the NC, I lost the internal storage on the device when I reverted it. I've tried repartitioning with both the 1Gb and 5Gb zip files with and without the format.
I am going to keep it rooted, but when if I do decide to unroot it in the event that it needs to be returned, how do I restore the internal storage for the NC?

I did everything you said in this video, step by step. It's STILL not working. Everytime I put everything on my SD card and insert it in my Nook Color, and turn it on, it goes into Cyanogen mode and boots up that way. I don't get a "loading screen with two skulls" to go into recovery. I'm SO confused what I'm doing wrong. I've tried a few different things.. still get the "welcome cyanogen" screen. How do I get it to boot into recovery??

Ok. After hours of slaving over this, I finally fixed it. Take these following steps:
1) Download the Nook Restore File in his info
2) Google 1gb_clockwork-3.2.0.1-eyeballer.zip
Don't worry about it being 1gb, that won't matter.
3) Follow the rest of his instructions but use the file from the link I posted here and it should work.

When I take the SD card out and reboot I just end up getting stuck at the android on the skateboard(with the arrow cirleing him). I can't get past it. Now I want to just restore my nook and and I am having the same problem.I am unable to format the data. I think thats the problem. Can someone help me?

@michaellamarche77 OMG me to i so didnt read your reply until after i commented but yea when i click the format data it says error and when i take out the sd card it gets stuck at the n logo. can i just rooted it again will that work?

I kept having problems with the nook complete restore zip. Every time I tried to install it on the rooted nook it would say it couldn't open it and aborted the install. I determined that the file wasn't downloading all the way to my computer. It would only download 117 mb's. So after downloading about ten or fifteen different times it finally loaded all 159 mb's, like was mentioned in the video. It finally worked!

Thank you for the video , it worked perfectly. I found that my computer doesnt show things quite like huskermanias and sometimes you have to search for things in your own computer . But my nook color is back and registered again, Thanks, keep up the great video info. Mitch

Ahh, so sorry but I can not get the clock work mod link to cooperate. It says opps can not connect to legacy schools. Not sure if its having maintenance now or just been taken down is there an alternate link i can use to get the 2g file. Thanks

Hi,
I was able to follow you until about 6 minutes in (go to desktop and click on the clockworkmod), but I have windows 7 and I could find the file when I back track under c:/...users/desktop. My Nook Color has been bricked for 6 months and this was the first good help I found. Do you know where I could find the instructions for using Windows 7, by chance? @Prechaun45 you must be using Windows 7, try using a MicroSD adapter with a USB Reader, something about the USB write speed with the card adapter.. dont know what it is, but It works when i use a USB card Reader. Good Luck..

@Prechaun45 You have to download the correct one. It asks for the type of memory card you have and you select the one with the amount of memory. remember to delete all the other things on SD card

My nook just starts up normally when I start it with the SD card inserted. I think I created it correctly -- is there a way to check? But Windows didn't want to eject it after I wrote it, even though it seemed to be done. Any ideas?

Had the issue with the format data error and tried azncutiemee method and got me to the nook color screen. Its been loading and rebooting iin that screen for a while. hopefully it stops and i can use my nook again. thanks for the video and the comments

Please help. I can get my NC to work ONLY if I shut it down and restart without the microsd card in the slot. It will not recognize the card even after I insert it. I can only shut it down by holding the power and n buttons. When I try to shut down from menus it locks up. Please help.

@truedemon18 I don't think you can recover your nooks. * Why?* ( This is all based on my knowledge ) Most *RESTORING/UNROOT* means it deletes almsot everything, and it turns back to *FACTORY SETTING*. Im not sure but correct me if im wrong.... PS: If there is a *BACKUP FEATURE* on nook and you backed up it might save all your books and etc....

okay i have figured out the not starting up after unrooting just do the factory reset by holding the nook key while turning it on and hold the nook key till it asks you about factory reset and follow directions

You know, it's easier to access the ClockworkModRecovery by going to 7-Zip and then select Documents then go Up A Level and find the folder it's in.

My nook was rooted with Honeycomb on it. When I restored it to factory it seemed to work fine but when I get to the part where it tells me to login I get an error message that says we are unable to set up you nook color. Then it gives me the option to reset it power it off or get device info. Any idea what I could have done or why it would be doing this?

I did everything as Alex did in this video (just like the rooting video), and I got the same error both times with the format data error. When I rooted, I couldn't get off the Cyanogen Mod 7 screen (with the android guy on the skateboard), and now that I'm trying to restore, I get to the Nook Color by Barnes and Noble screen, and it looks like it's about to go to a new screen, but it keeps going back to the Nook Color by Barnes and Noble screen. Anybody know what to do? Thanks! Jack

@huskermania just wondering, my issue is that for some reason i had a 1gb sd card and i used the 1 gb download, still it did not fit. so i tried zipping that file (for some reason idk why) and i got it messed up on the data formatiing part. it said error. so i got angry and stayed up until 6 am to try to unroot it. now. i have version 1.01 and 1.2 is not installing for some reason even though i have the file in there. and for some reason i have 0 space on my NookColor drive. can u explain?

Hey for those with 1.2 NC with the "format data" problem it{s not a big deal. Well, it probably is, however follow the instructions of this video and when you reset data and the error message appears just ignore it and keep going; everything should work fine.

When I rooted my NC, I needed to dload the partition files from xda developer due to the error with the "format data" as I have a newer NC. When I went to unroot the NC, I lost the internal storage on the device when I reverted it. I've tried repartitioning with both the 1Gb and 5Gb zip files with and without the format.
I am going to keep it rooted, but when if I do decide to unroot it in the event that it needs to be returned, how do I restore the internal storage for the NC?

Everytime I put everything on my SD card and insert it in my Nook Color, and turn it on, it goes into Cyanogen mode and boots up that way. I don't get a "loading screen with two skulls" to go into recovery. I'm SO confused what I'm doing wrong. I've tried a few different things.. still get the "welcome cyanogen" screen. How do I get it to boot into recovery??
