my chem tech says just swap the charges, i didnt understand WHY we did that till you came in and said how they want to lose, or gain electrons depending on the charge, now i can go in more depth.

That's because you're spelling it with the second 'i'. Americans spell it 'aluminum'. Whether or not we're right to do so is another issue entirely, but he's pronouncing it correctly in accordance with American English =p
