  • JOSH PUT YOUR DAMN HANDS DOWN

  • I just got a dslr canon rebel t3i and I'm in love as far as being easy to become familiar with, 18 megapixels of amazing quality for photos or video. It's worth the cost, every penny.

  • Inception was indeed good but I agree, the way the dreams were created were very unrealistic. Most of my dreams involve bizarre things happening like spoons made of jello or sharks that sing opera. So that kind of disappointed me and I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. I enjoy your videos by the way :)

  • um hello WISCONSIN ME!

  • Inception was wonderful. My dreams aren't acid trips like yours. lol they're mostly normal, but with something off.. kind of like the movie.

  • Inception was great, I can't wait to see it again :)

  • Three videos over the Summer? VERY impressive. :D

I use a digital camera for both pictures and my videos. It was less than $200, it's lightweight compared to big HD cameras, and I think it's got pretty decent quality for what it is. It's a Canon Powershot A590, and I just use SD cards. The battery life doesn't last extremely long, but I still like it a lot.

That's a good point about Inception--the way the dreams look IS odd. I did still love the movie and am planning on seeing it again.

  • I thought the exact same thing about the dream sequences in Inception. I've never been able to calmly walk around Paris in mine. My dreams are much more fluid than Nolan's.

I have a crappy Sony digital camera that's a few years old now and is due for replacement but like you I'm lost as to what to get next.

And twenty points to Gryffindor for posting another video!

  • I agree about your Inception insight. I like it a lot, but I don't think it's the masterpiece that everyone is proclaiming it is.

Something that you didn't touch on that bothered me is that no character (aside from Leo's) were really that well rounded as characters. They were character types more than anything. Also, the first part is really slow. So much exposition.

  • I'm in Iowa in the Quad Cities. If you come through we should meet up. I don't know you but I've never met a youtuber who wasn't a friend from school so it'd be cool.

I saw Inception. Tumblr hype made me think it was going to be confusing to follow. I understood everything at the end. I was really trying to figure out everything, but there wasn't anything to figure out really. In that aspect I was disapointed. Besides that I liked it.

  • I don't know if you watch Rocketboom's channel, but last week they put out a video called "Tips for buying a new camera" Hope it helps! :) Have tons of fun on your super amazing-sounding roadtrip!!!

  • Dude. Time to loosen the purse strings. You dont have to spend a fortune, but i can see you getting a lot of good out of whatever you choose. You'll love it, and you should definitely get what you want. You DO have money. It'll be fine.

I agree with you concerning Inception- the dreams in this movie are unlike the dreams I usually experience. They were not at all tailored to the individual doing the dreaming, as real dreams would be.

  • "Or I'll be fiddling with it the whole time." That's what he saaaaiiidd.....hehe :P

  • I use the Canon 7D. It's beautiful, but a bit expensive...

The Canon 550D is similar but cheaper. Still expensive, but really worth it. It'll take wonderful photos, and brilliant video.

  • Wow. Ten states in 2 weeks sounds like a rock tour. I have a Kodak Zi8. It shoots video in 1080p and even comes with an hdmi port. Uses SD cards to save the video and a 4GB card holds almost 2 hours of footage. I shoot in 720 at 60 frames per second. It has a zoom and takes still photos as well. The still camera is limited but is fantastic some something on the spot. It's the size of n iPhone but a tad more thick. It's with me all the time.

  • @billtvmacon Is that what you shoot most of your videos on? I really like the quality of your videos.

  • @skishua I use an old Sony DCR-TVR103 Hi8 camera for my videos. If you go to my channel and watch the video 'Mustang,' the footage outside at the Mustang show was shot with the Zi8. The in house was shot with the Sony Hi8, to give you a comparison.

  • I saw Inception and I thought it was a good movie, but I really thought it lacked character development. So many fantastic actors but you could have changed almost any character for anyone else and the movie wouldnt have been affected at all. The only two characters that really got any proper story were Mal and Cobb. That just got under my skin.

  • @WhatIfItDoesSink Oh, for sure. Most everyone is just kind of a tool of the story; interesting, but flat.

  • Purple elephants and yellow Guinea pigs floating??? I want what you're on.

  • Wardrobe change?

    *thumbs up*

Wow. 10 states in 2 weeks?

    Crazyy. haha

  • Expensive option: The Canon range is amazing for photo and video. Cheap option: You can't go wrong with a Flip cam. Nice to talk to you on Skype yesterday.

You know my thoughts on Inception. I quite like the movie but the more I think about it the less I like it. Glad you mentioned the virtual reality thing. Couldn't agree more.

  • @lewisbostock Nice to talk to you as well! I did end up seeing Inception again and was actually able to enjoy it a bit more because I didn't have to focus all my energy on figuring out what was going on. Still, the things that bugged me the first time just bugged me more.

  • inception to me is the best and worst movie ever. its an amazing story line and its got amazing actors and the movie as a whole is amazing. but some of the key things of the story i just dont get. and i dont know why i dont get it i just dont. and i dont know exactly what it is i dont get haha but i dont.

  • I have a Canon FS100. You will probably have seen from my videos what the quality is like; it's definitely not HD, but I'm happy with it. I also like that it's very small, quite a bit smaller and lighter than my old camera. The still pictures it takes aren't that great, though.

  • the flipcam mino hd is under $150 and has good quality. it has 2 hours of storage and plugs right into your computer, so you dont need a cord or anything. and the battery last pretty long, i used it to document my foreign exxchange in germany, you can take a look if you want, i had a youtube channel called carolineingermany (dont pick a vloggy video becuase i used my computer for those)

  • Many people are recommending it and I have to agree. For the money the Flip UltraHD is a very good buy.

Toronto is a great city, I'm not surprised that you had a good time there.

From MN, so I hope you have a good time while your here also!

Good luck with the camera shopping, let us know what you get.

  • i digg your outfit and im pretty jealous of your free DB shirt lol

  • I envy you and all your road trips. Seriously, come to Maine! There's stuff here... I think... Maybe. Nope, just kidding. Stuff stops in New Hampshire.

I have a Kodak M863.. Got it a year ago for like 150. Nothing fancy, but it takes good pictures. And I use a basic Flip, which was cheap enough and also very good quality.

  • @CameronKabookie I stil hate that our stop in Maine failed last summer because I really do want to see it! And thanks for the suggestion. ^^

  • haven't seen inception, also haven't seen titanic or avatar so this doesn't surprise me. i have the flip hd. the quality is pretty nice but if you get it make sure you also invest in a cheap tripod for filming vlogs, otherwise if you are ever holding it out walking and la-di-da'ing it gets all shaky and pixely but if it's still it works great. plus there is the slight trouble of converting files which i still haven't figured out how to do, but that's my technology problem.good luck finding a cam

  • @olgaorange24 Okay, I'm getting general good vibes about Flip. Definitely considering it. And I haven't seen Titanic either. Yay!

  • oh yeah..about the camera..

    i recently bought a NIKON D5000

it is a great SLR camera BUT it also shoots video.. HD (720p quality).

a bit expensive..but really worth the price..

    i live in europe..here it costs €599...(around US$ 780)

  • DAAAMN...your dreams are cooler than mine

  • Flip cam HD, you can get on Amazon for cheaper

  • Three videos this summer? WHOA!

Some things that I was reminded of to comment about:

    1. Flips have actually gotten good recently. The only issue I have with them is that they don't have a viewfinder in which you can see yourself. I, however, use a Sony Webbie HD which isn't much more and has viewfinder you can see yourself in.

    2. We need to plan IU4BE for real... because there's a chance I can arrange for lots of cool people to be there.

    3. I want to go to Canada. Thanks for that.

  • @fizzylimon Your comment is actually really helpful! Those look great. The price looks especially alluring. And as for IU4BE...I think I have some ideas of people as well. We should have a proper planning session, and THEN make it happen.

  • You look really hip today.

  • @henrytophat That's a compliment coming from you!

  • Canada? AWESOME! I got a HD Panasonic digital camera which I use. But as you can see from my vids, the saturation and noise removal is pretty bad...especially when raw. I then got a Canon T1i and the movie mode is basically on par, if not better. Whatever you get, make sure it has low noise and good color balance.

Did you see Salt yet? Any good? I have yet to see either that or Inception. I wait for DVDs. Shoot me.

  • @WhirledSol Salt feels like a 90s action movie in all the best ways. A bit cheesy, but well worth a watch.

  • Have you thought about DSLRs? One camera for both stills and video would be great if you're traveling.

  • If you want an on-the-go camcorder, the Flip is pretty nice, and not that expensive, but I don't know if the HD is very good. Charlieissocoollike and AndrewBravener have a few videos filmed by the flip (I think..) so check those out if you want to see the quality :)

  • @purfectpuff Ah, good suggestion, thank you!

  • seeing inception again on monday afternoon. woot.

  • If you're in the market for a camcorder, the Sony Bloggies are pretty cute. I have the stand up version(like a flip cam) but there's also a palm version(like a handycam). Mine was about 160 dollars and it shoots full HD and doesn't give me issues.

In the digital camera department, I don't know much about anything unless they're dslrs or the like mid-grade non point and shoot ones. But if you want cheap, you probably want the smaller ones.

  • Define cheap and nice.

  • @Cohenism Cheap: under 250 Nice: shoots HD, doesn't sound tinny

  • @skishua The best way to go is the Flip UltraHD then. I have one, and it's great. Use decent lighting, and it'll surprise you with how much it's worth. :)

  • @Cohenism Define cheap and nice: Lewis Bostock.

  • The Canon HF S200 is pretty good, and it's only $750 on Newegg.

  • inception is awesome
