  • I heard this song the first time on a Vimeo video for a wedding.

  • Was the guitar rhytm sampled from another song?

  • this shall be blasted on repeat in my dorm on March 1st till dusk

  • This really is the most amazing piece of music it needs discovery. It is in a class with Beethoven

  • @uuuz6 No. No. No. Beethoven? Are you kidding me? I mean this is good but no. Beethoven was a god. You can NOT compare this to Beethoven. There IS NO comparison. It is light years away. No. Just no. Never. Oh god. No. I can't even comprehend how you would put this up against Beethoven. No. No. No.

  • @MrDramaKingTV

blimey, he wasn't comparing them to beethoven he was saying he like them as much as he likes beethoven.... i think!

  • I love the way the songs absolutely rip your heart out, but there's always a glimmer of hope to be found amidst the pain.

  • I've known this song for over a year now, but I'm so glad it was used in the Gay Rights Movement video, I just watched it, and it was beautiful. I'm glad Noah & The Whale has a new fan base from that video. ♥

  • I've been an N&TW fan for a while but somehow missed this album. It's phenomenal.

  • Another who came here from the Gay Rights Movement video. I'm hearing a bit of early U2 here (Joshua Tree and before). I need to check out more from Noah and the Whale

  • The ending alone was enough to almost make me cry.

  • @luckyisretarded Almost? I'm like dying drowning in tears

  • i know this song was on the gay rights movement video, but was this song on a movie because i know ive heard this song before or at least the intrumental of this song

  • @ohyeamanishere from 0:33 to 0:50 it kinda sounds like the music from the Dead Island video game trailer...

  • @MultiFortran HOW did I miss that?! Good call.

  • first heard this song from a gay rights video. the mixture of this song and the sad things they were saying in the video made me cry. support civil rights for the LGBT!

  • the thing I love most about this song is just when you think it is about to end, and you get sad, it keeps going....

  • I heard this song for the first time today in The Gay Rights Movement video. Wonderful video, wonderful song. Love Love Love. New favorite group.

  • @TheMrsb90 me too

  • loved noah and the whale for years, but this still manages to make me cry every time. no other song has quite the same effect..

  • Saw it live. Cried like a baby.

  • 12 people play mandolin and just cant accept what just happened.

  • Seeing this live was one of the best experiences of my life. I cried.

  • I cry every time

  • 5:56 gets me every time :)

  • lowe it ! <3

  • musical frissons ftw!

  • fucking agree with HoeshwaPOOP666, damn!!!

    Great mix of instruments!!!

  • Tom deserves to go to heaven for that violin solo :')

  • Damn. This song breaks my heart. There's a subtle thing in his singing that just makes this echo the pain you feel from unrequited and defeated love. It's incredible to hear someone portray what we've all felt but never had the words to express. The only thing I can say is that I'm glad to have moved on and found the next and hopefully only person I will need for the rest of my life. Everything gets better eventually.

  • Still waiting for that one person to come back... man this song's heartbreaking. <3

  • 11 dislikes! are you kidding me!??!

  • a year on, and I still hear this song on the old familiar walk home-no matter what time, what season or what situation, the intro I just cannot forget <3

  • the end of that song was heaven on my ears :)

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • I know this album came out of a lot of heartbreak, but it's so beautiful I almost want Charlie Fink to always be heartbroken if it means this is the music that he writes.

So much better than their new album, in my opinion.

  • @onthewalkoffame You and I both... You and I both.

  • this song is seriously underrated. this is one of the most musically amazing songs i have ever heard. i love noah and the whale so much <3

  • Though I say "I don’t believe in love", I have this someone who makes me feel Different... a strong feeling of caring, not in a sexual way, but in a more delightful way makes me very happy. A glimpse of her eyes makes my day luminous. I believe she has developed a rather unfavorable view of me. And these words are the words I would like to say to her, she loves this song and I think she might be reading this. If she is, if you are reading this, I hope one day we become one soul in two bodies.

  • @creacher2620 GAY

  • @olicass oh leave them alone yeah.. godd, why cant anyone say anything anymore without some prick like you saying something!

  • love it love it love it

  • Spring.

My life is starting over again

  • Spring.

My life is starting over again

  • This song is PROBABLY the most underrated song that I have ever heard.

  • i cried. a lot.

  • <3

  • I used to be one of those people who thought that the idea of showing emotion through music was some pretentious lie musicians made up, this song made me think otherwise.

  • I have chills :x

  • 11 people do not have a soul.

  • The beauty, and thoughtfulness of this song, its deep meaning washing away all the bull and leaving a sparkling truth, that life is so much more than whatever we think it can ever be, there is still more… more to experience and thats what makes life, life. It is truly magnificent and enlightening, it brings forth a new revelation of what life means; I've always loved this song, years back and now i listen to it constantly and the lyrics still strike home and cut deep into reality.

  • The first time i listened to this song months ago i thought it was good. Now months later i'm listening to it again and i think it's absolutely incredible, it's meaning is so strong.

  • its ridiculous the amount of times this song has made me cry yet feel happy all at the same time..

  • i am still here hoping that one day you may come back.

  • I cried.

  • I call it music...some people maybe call this "wtf", but these people have no soul!

    It's fucking beautiful...

  • 9 people don't ... o wait I'm not gonna say that because i have a life

  • What a beautiful, haunting song.

    The backing track is amazing.

  • i'm amazed!!!! haven't heard song like that for a long time!!!

  • This song is pure sweet love flowing out of my speakers into my soul.

  • they totally mind fuck u in the end with the amazing violin....

  • @HoeshwaPOOP666 you my friend... are right

  • This is so relevant to me right now.

  • G.O.O.S.E.B.U.M.P.S.

  • 30 seconds in and I already was shaking with goosebumps.

  • WOW..

  • This song makes me think about all the good things i have. When i'm listening to it i need to hug and kiss all the most important people of my life. It makes me cry :')

  • Great song.

Even better than L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. ,it sounds beautifully.

I am from Poland and I can't find a good english word to describe my feelings about this song.

  • Serious goosebumps. This song is amazing to listen to when walking home in the dead of the night and no one else is around. So peaceful.

  • Everytime I hear this song I feel like riding a bike and picking flowers, and possibly writing a poem.

  • 9 people are probably extremely excited for friday so they can wake up in the morning

,go downstairs and have a bowl of fucking cereal

  • pat sucks dick

  • My breath catches at 5:56. The raw beauty and sadness of the moment is what turned me on to Noah and the Whale.

  • Una absoluta y completa maravilla perfecta.

  • There are still good music bands today :)

  • i saw them play this live. I was standing in the second row, and I began to cry, because it was so beautiful. I will never forget that moment.

  • i have dedicated this song to Japan and can only think of it's hurts while listening to it.

  • there's only one way to describe this song - beautiful.

  • "It's the first day of spring

And my life is starting over again

The trees grow, the river flows

And its water will wash away my sins

For I do believe that everyone has one chance

    To fuck up their lives

But like a cut down tree, I will rise again

And I'll be bigger and stronger than ever before" ! :)

  • when listening to NATW, nothing in the world matters.. all problems just go away.. and there is peace.

  • It's been about a year since I first heard this and it's still one of the most beautiful, soulful songs I have ever heard. I can't even describe the feeling I get listening to it...

oh and how appropriate for the start of spring today!

  • Happy Spring!

  • March 20, 2011. Vernal Equinox for the Northern Hemisphere, 7:21pm EDT. The start of spring.

  • i properly adore this

  • I've convinced myself that one day this will be how all music will be. and everything will be good.

  • The power of spring, the joys of life interlaced with the inevitability of death, the wonders of nature and the beauty of music, all combined in a magnificent song by this wonderful group of musicians. well done, beautiful, thank you for enriching my life and the lifes of many other souls in this troubled world

  • @Locutus76

Stop being so bloody pretentious and just enjoy the music. You don't look clever.

  • @MrKingsandCastles I do enjoy this music very much. I wish you did just that too, but I am sorry to learn you only feel the need to be cynical about other people's comments. Your sarcasm doesn't make you look clever either...

  • There are some songs that I find so beautiful but terribly easy to relate to, despite the original meaning being completely unrelated to what you're going through- this is one of those songs. Haunting.

  • i don't even know why i'm crying listening to this, but maybe because it makes me so happy and sentimental at the same time

  • @lelipeli123 The intro alone gets me :L

  • The introduction of this song is so perfect!

  • It's the first day of the spring.. ^^

  • It's the first day of the spring.. ^^

  • they sound like my band (canvas trees) but with lyrics. they always manage to put a smile on my face or a tear in my eye. beautiful music.

  • Life goes on is pretty good!

  • I love Noah and the Whale. I just wish I knew about them earlier! Their music's so peaceful & relaxing.

  • I don't know how these pretentious scenesters claim to be channelling Bukowski. He'd have been bored senseless with this drab, unoriginal, whiny dross.

  • @KristenRea Touchy!

  • @KristenRea I find it ironic that you call them pretentious when you're being just that.

How can this music be deemed senseless when it's written post break up with Laura Marling... Listen to the first album (without being such a snob about how superior your taste is) and you'll see how much the guy loved Laura Marling, and this is an obvious reflection of how it affected him.

  • @mattfob Look Matt. Evidently you like this music. I don't. Fair enough. There's lots of music I don't like. I don't generally post comments about it. My comment is about the fact that in a recent BBC interview they made references to being influenced by the writing of Charles Bukowski. As a Bukowski fan, I resent the connection. Mostly because IT'S BULLSHIT. If Bukowski was alive, he'd cross the street to punch these 'tortured' hipsters. He didn't endorse whinging.

  • @KristenRea Bukowski is great and so is this song. It's not a compatibility issue.

  • @mattfob Also, re-read my original comment. I didn't call their music senseless. I called it drab and unoriginal. Which it undeniably is.

  • @KristenRea go fuck yourself.

  • @KristenRea stfu

  • Such a beautiful album. More people need to listen to it

  • cool cover art!

  • Yeah, but actually I'm with you on this point. I like it with his voice too, now.

  • @MaRioSlut ahh I see, xx

  • Whenever i listen to this beautiful song, everything else in the entire world melts away and i feel so relaxed and free. Beautiful. The ending is magnificent, brilliant act of musical genius. I can listen to this song all day long and never want to click the red x in the top right corner. B-e-a-utiful.

  • Im not trying to be horrible or anything, but his voice is what helps make this song what it is. It is so calming, i dont see why we need an instumental. This song basicly is descibing my life at the moment, and it helps put my mind at ease and help me move along in life and have fun, although each time i listen i shead a tear.

  • @busydancerr11

Wait what ? Nooooooo. Really ?

  • @MaRioSlut I understand why people do want an instumental though.. so you can just hear the song with no singing.. its just my own opinion, that I like it with his voice =)

  • This when played live is Levitating it takes away any negative feelings they played it at Bush hall the other night. Magnificent

  • Instrumental of this would be great.

  • the end crescendo - one of the most emotionally moving moments in music to me...

  • All of their music makes me so emotional.

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • God i love this song thank you Noah And The Whale for makin this song. In my bad day where nothing is goin right I listen to it. And I always feel better because of what this song says. And i guess those 6 people are idoits for not understandin this master piece.

  • my ears don't deserve this music. Most beautiful song I've have ever heard.

  • The harmonies the violin creates with the rest of the music is amazing!

  • @petermckracken his voice has more emotion and meaning than any other contemporary artists, he's like the lou reed of alternative folk!

  • Spiritual

  • epic song of our time. hope they come to australia soon

  • Beautiful. Intoxicating. I love Noah and the Whale. So relaxing.

  • Wow. Unbelievable.

  • I wish there were an instrumental version of this song, without the lyrics. So beautiful.

  • The most beautiful song I have heard to date in my life.
