can you just paint Marenus an ultramarines color or do you have to pait the whole army ultramarines? Also if you have to paint the whole army ultramarines then is it worth it to paint it an ultramarines color and have this HQ or are there other very good HQ options out there.? Thanks

Umm if you like close combat then yeah. You could also do a Blood Angels army if you like CC.

another question, can you have normal tactical marines, and paint them templar style? but still have bolters and such?

Of course. You can have any type of unit in any chapter unless it is a special character of a certain chapter or it is specifically stated that a unit can only be used in a certain chapter. For example, Marneus Calgar can only be used in an Ultramarines army, and High Marshal Helbrecht can only be used in a Black Templar army. But things like Tactical Squads, Terminator Squads, and tanks can be used in any chapter that you want.

You can have marenus calgar in any army even if he is an ultra marine character, all specail characters are not chapter bound, only in name; therefore create your own commander using his point set and rules

Actually that's not strictly true, you could have Marneus Calgar in your own chapter, as long as you give him a different name, but can keep the stats and model.

@godofwarc93 yeah im sory to call bull shit on that one but it states clearly in every codex that you can use whatever unit for what ever army when ever you want, read it man its just before the army lists page where it shows force organization, its called "Ultramarines and other Chapters"

From what I've heard, he's an unstoppable frickin beast on the battlefield. I'm more of a modeler/painter and have never actually played the game, but I'm completely redoing my army and plan to start playing. I got this mainly because the models themselves are badass, But since he has the God of War ability, can re-roll misses, and has some pretty damn high stats, I'd say he's an absolute MUST for any Ultramarine player.
