Yes, it is horrendous for those elected to government to spend money on trying to curb the recession (now known as The Great Recession). It was way better to spend money for years of war in Iraq.

Actually, it is foolish to think our nation will be prosperous if only it taxes and spends more. Taking from those who create jobs, and giving "tax rebates" to those who do not even pay taxes. The problem with that statement is that the rich have, as of recent, been far more interested in investing in bubble and housing markets than in creating American jobs. It didn't work, and the New Deal didn't completely solve the problem either, because by that point we had fallen into a much worse depression. Pointing out that Bush wasted money too does not make what Obama is doing right, nor should it be assumed that we ever supported Bush. I'm a libertarian, FYI.
I can't help thinking this is a a republican vs democrat thing, than it is an actual, "I care about spending," thing. I don't think these people cared when it was Bush who was doing the spending, but now that a democrat is doing it, all of a sudden they care. No offense, I don't know these people personally, I don't know their intentions. I oppose wasteful spending too. But the fact that tea party protests are occurring now, instead of 4 years ago, I think, lessens their credibility.
No politicians were allowed on the mike at the April 15 event yesterday in Houston. Gov. Perry wanted to speak at ours and was declined. The party that did allow him on mike made him promise not to campaign and not to talk parties. You're right that Bush deserved protest too, but it's sad that the water has to get awfully hot before the frogs figure out what's happening.

The problem with that statement is that the rich have, as of recent, been far more interested in investing in bubble and housing markets than in creating American jobs. These programs existed before Obama: our roads, bridges and mass-transit systems and social-security programs cost money. They asked for it; that's what they'll get. Funny thing though, the Bush Wars will cost more than double the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These tools had no problem with spending money on bombs, the rich not pay income taxes, and doubling combat and corporate contracts.

This program is not paying for social security, our roads and bridges are part of ongoing spending - we don't need additional trillions for roads. This out of control spending is the undoing of this nation. We're not paying for social security - it's racking up debt, we're not paying for this stiumulus - it's racking up debt, we're not paying for the wars - they are racking up debt. If all the government did was roads, bridges, defense, and maintain order then I would be all for it, and taxes would be less and spending would be a WHOLE LOT less. People are upset that we're bailing out american business's but are we really so suprised that this is happening. Detroit is failing and we are driving import cars. We are buying import goods and not keeping the money here in America. Conservatives are not so quick to point this out. We should of been concerned with this while Bush was in office but we allowed his party to put this country in the position its in. Irregardless, a bankrupt nation, no matter how much money they may give you, is still bankrupt - and we are approaching total economic collapse with hugely unsustainable debt. ummmm. no. Excessive governemnt spending = higher taxes. Printing more money = higher inflation. Just in case you didn't know, higher inflation means the dollar is worth less. BTW thats a bad thing. He so far has raised taxes on electricity, oil, ciggarettes, and many more things that are not just used by the rich. Poor ppl need gas, food, and electricity. thinair88- government spending after the great depression was NOT effective- it will not work this time. instead: cut taxes for all= more spending= stimulated economy; give assistance to those who are upside down on mortgages. that will save their houses, decrease foreclosures, and stimulate economy. obama is a socialist , yet he made around 7 million dollars personally over the past two years (check his last two tax returns...) . many of his appointees did not pay their taxes in full.

True. Government spending during the early years of the depression was nonexistent, which seems to be what you're promoting. It didn't work, and the New Deal didn't completely solve the problem either, because by that point we had fallen into a much worse depression. However, I think it is extremely hypocritical for people to place the blame on the shoulders of Obama. Where were all these people when Bush was spending out the ass, borrowing from China and ultimately collapsing our economy?

It should not be assumed that everybody who has a problem with Obama's stimulus is a republican. I'm certainly not defending Bush, but Obama's stimulus will drive us into the ground.

I don't think these people cared when it was Bush who was doing the spending, but now that a democrat is doing it, all of a sudden they care. No offense, I don't know these people personally, I don't know their intentions. I oppose wasteful spending too. No politicians were allowed on the mike at the April 15 event yesterday in Houston. Gov. Perry wanted to speak at ours and was declined. The party that did allow him on mike made him promise not to campaign and not to talk parties. You're right that Bush deserved protest too, but it's sad that the water has to get awfully hot before the frogs figure out what's happening.
