Also it's not how many players it can get in the first year that counts, it's how many players it can KEEP over a number of years. @Heartlezzhero I think it isn't really the dragon that is different. Look at who is with the guy in that GW2 video. People. Now look at who is with the guy in the SWTOR game. Nobody. They isolate you in SWTOR. So far what I've heard about GW2 is that they'll actually push for that whole "MMO" thing by making world bosses scale and by letting players from different servers join together to fight a boss. Only time will tell if GW2 can actually make it happen.
@Quenchster I see youre point. Compared to that you are more isolated during the leveling process but only if you so choose. And world bosses and pvp and such is still with large groups of people. they just made Leveling possible to do without others, but not necessary

I'll be playing both. Because I love a classic themepark MMO that's not complicated, not to mention I love the Star Wars theme. I have a feeling GW2 will revolutionize MMO's depending on it's success, It's already shown much to offer.
So I'll be here, politely sipping away at my frosty beverage whilst you all argue over what game is better and fail to realize every game has it's positive and negative points.
Right.....maybe for some people the STORYLINE and fully voice-acted dialoge is more important than gameplay?....Sure in terms of gameplay SWTOR offers NOTHING new....but for me it's the unique storyline of each class, great voice-acting and the choices you can make in dialoge that keeps me entertained =).
But sure, if you are looking for new things in gameplay itself, then GW2 indeed is the only choice...too bad the gameworld and background story of GW2 doesnt interest me one bit
@Balnazzardi that is your opinion but just so you know, GW2 has a huge storyline (personal that is) and it has a huge amount of choices that influence that storyline so if you like storylines that much then i think you should definetly try GW2. thats what i think :)
@verskore Well atleast GW2 is free2play, so who knows, maybe I'll give it a try one day...it just that hardly any other fantasy world besides Warcraft interest me in MMOs....and then there are plenty of other games to play :P
just to mention, all the races have a story line(which also differs slightly dependant on what which group of the race you joined, EG which legion you joined as a Charr) and the entire storyline, as far as i can see, is fully voice acted.
its just if you dont want to follow the story and would rather just some villagers you dont need to have dont some stupidly long fully voiced chain to do it, you just grab a weapon and get stuck in.

@lazerpan First of all it's a small mid level dragon boss, and a small dynamic event in GW2 owns your lvl 8 bosses and a lot more of your high lvl swtor bosses. Nice fail defending your game.
To clear shit up with you fan boys/girls GW2 and SWtoR are very different and are both awesome game (from what I have seen and or played) They are better in different ways, for example GW2 has STELLAR combat your always in motion and looking for special tricks to pull off, but the way it provides story is as old as Ever Quest, SWtoR has STELLAR story telling but its combat is just WoW with deploy-able cover. Their both good games we will have to wait for GW2 to come out to see which ones better.
GW2 Looks to take this home so far but it really hard to say most people that are playing starwars have yet to experiance a end game content. The pvp of swtor is quite weird atm just because of most people having huge lag in WZ and outside. The rumor that's out on the internet is that the graphics engine is failing since end game computer are having trouble with this game. I think the duel about best mmorpg in 2012 will be about Tera online vs GW2.

@MrTokiono There's very few quests in GW2. The only quests that exist are the ones that involve your character's personal story. Dynamic events replace quests. The abilities you use is based on what type of weapon/offhand you have equipped. Warriors effectively use guns. World vs. World vs. World PvP will exist in GW2. The "Havoc" physics engine also exists in the game engine. Destructible dynamic events in PvE - entire towns being leveled if not defended. Go to GW2.com for a lot more.
@MrTokiono No no. There's thousands of scripted dynamic events with several chains/objectives for each one. Some dynamic events take place underwater, others are triggered by day/night, or weather, and all of them allow players to play together and kill things and complete objectives. You don't have to group with anyone or compete for objectives, and the events scale based on how many players are in the area. So basically you can go wherever you want and do dynamic events and complete your story
@MrTokiono So it isn't really grinding. It encourages exploration and team play, and the dynamic events actually have an impact on the world. If centaurs take over a farm and you do NOTHING about it, the centaurs will destroy the farm, the crops won't grow, the animals will begin dying, and eventually the centaurs will move on to a different village/farm until you stop them. You can also choose to rebuild the farm over time once the centaurs are defeated. That's a very small example.
@MrTokiono You actually feel like you're exploring the world and having a real, legitimate impact on the game. It isn't just "do this quest like 10,000 other players are that will have no visible, tangible effect on the world, ever." Having few quests and thousands of dynamic events sounds infinitely more fun than the old system.

I am playing swtor atm and am almost level 30 and it's doesn't even look half as good as guild wars 2 or have any innovations that will wow you. Bioware did do a good job with story telling that. Only good thing about swtor.

TOR will not even be an MMO. They have designed it so people dont even have to leave there own ships and interact with others to get anything done, completely removing the social aspect of the game. Why do something when an NPC can do it for you? TOR will be a stagnant pool in MMO history. Something new and better will come along. A shame it will be the only blight against Biowares name.

To clear shit up with you fan boys/girls GW2 and SWtoR are very different and are both awesome game (from what I have seen and or played) They are better in different ways, for example GW2 has STELLAR combat your always in motion and looking for special tricks to pull off, but the way it provides story is as old as Ever Quest, SWtoR has STELLAR story telling but its combat is just WoW with deploy-able cover. Their both good games we will have to wait for GW2 to come out to see which ones better.

GW2 Looks to take this home so far but it really hard to say most people that are playing starwars have yet to experiance a end game content. The pvp of swtor is quite weird atm just because of most people having huge lag in WZ and outside. The rumor that's out on the internet is that the graphics engine is failing since end game computer are having trouble with this game. I think the duel about best mmorpg in 2012 will be about Tera online vs GW2.

@MrTokiono There's very few quests in GW2. The only quests that exist are the ones that involve your character's personal story. Dynamic events replace quests. The abilities you use is based on what type of weapon/offhand you have equipped. Warriors effectively use guns. World vs. World vs. World PvP will exist in GW2. The "Havoc" physics engine also exists in the game engine. Destructible dynamic events in PvE - entire towns being leveled if not defended. Go to GW2.com for a lot more.

@MrTokiono No no. There's thousands of scripted dynamic events with several chains/objectives for each one. Some dynamic events take place underwater, others are triggered by day/night, or weather, and all of them allow players to play together and kill things and complete objectives. You don't have to group with anyone or compete for objectives, and the events scale based on how many players are in the area. So basically you can go wherever you want and do dynamic events and complete your story

@MrTokiono So it isn't really grinding. It encourages exploration and team play, and the dynamic events actually have an impact on the world. If centaurs take over a farm and you do NOTHING about it, the centaurs will destroy the farm, the crops won't grow, the animals will begin dying, and eventually the centaurs will move on to a different village/farm until you stop them. You can also choose to rebuild the farm over time once the centaurs are defeated. That's a very small example.

It isn't just "do this quest like 10,000 other players are that will have no visible, tangible effect on the world, ever." Having few quests and thousands of dynamic events sounds infinitely more fun than the old system.

TOR will not even be an MMO. They have designed it so people dont even have to leave there own ships and interact with others to get anything done, completely removing the social aspect of the game. Why do something when an NPC can do it for you? TOR will be a stagnant pool in MMO history. Something new and better will come along. A shame it will be the only blight against Biowares name.
Furthermore, there is no such thing as a revolutionary mmo, they are all evolutionary.

Although i think this guy is a little off wack with his comparisons, i do think he's right that swtor is laughable, the graphics (apart form the cut secne movies which were awesome) is simply terrible, it' soutdated even by the standards of +8yr old games like SWG, DAOC and EQ. the gameplay itself is poor and your whole game is one quest after another woth a set script you follow, i was really looking forward to swtor, but i am sorely dissapointed with this wow clone.

Coming from some one who has beta tested SWTOR and played GW2 at gamescon this video is right on point. SWTOR can't compare to GW2 at all, the only people who could choose SWTOR over GW2 in their right mind are fan boys.
