oh wow its really unusual to have fry survive in a community tank, i always have to separate mine. I have some new babies born on the 23rd of Jan :) they are doing well but have their own tank. Have a great video of them being born on my channel was really lucky to see it let alone capture it on film, as all my other have been born over night. Love the colouring of your Platys, what type are they? I have loads of different types and only know the type of one which is my sunset Platy.
@waker245 mine always grow slowly i wouldn't worry. The only thing to look out for is if one is growing allot slower than the rest, i had that problem so separated it off at feeding times as it was being bullied out the way how he is fine and nearly big enough to put in my community tank
@MInibarJG maybe 15-20 each time and about 2-3 survives. depends on how much hiding space there is and what other fish are in the tank. They are always having babies so I don't really bother separating them. i have 7 fry in my tank at the moment from 3 batches 3-8 weeks old :)
I lost a lot of fries too since I don't separate them, I guess it's a way of natural selection. I have five 2-week old fries at the moment from 2 mothers that gave birth about 2 days apart :( but it's ok, stops the tank from overcrowding :D!
My tank has changed significantly since the video, have lost all the panda cories despite changing to sand. T_T
They were born and grew up in the community tank, I didn't separate them :) They hide well and my other fish don't deliberately eat them, so I had quite good survival rates. The recent batch however I only have one left, I added some rainbow fish to the tank, they are really fast fish and will attack fry... :(

@MInibarJG I leave them in there, I don't have the space for fry tanks etc.

Hey can you tell me weather i should try breeding cories in shoals or pairs... i have heard both ways and i was wondering which would be easier.
KatanaFish213 2 years ago
I think they breed better in a shoal, unfortunately my only panda cory baby never made it :( and they have not bred since
sakumong 1 year ago
Hey how old are the fry?
KatanaFish213 2 years ago
about 6 weeks old. I am always getting fry in the tank, so I can't keep track too well. I let them do "survival of the fittest"

How long after the platies were born did you re-enter them in to the community tank?
