Thank you for this video. I am a highschool student seriously looking into optometry (I've already acquired a few school pamphlets) and I wanted to hear about it from someone whose done it. This completely affirms what I want and love. Thank you! :)
There are a lot of ophthalmologists across America. So why would anyone with a brain want to go to an optometrist? An ophthalmologist can do everything that an optometrist can do PLUS all kinds of surgeries that an optometrist can't. So it's really confusing to me why some optometrists are mad that they can't find jobs or struggle to open their own private practice. It really shows you how delusional they are.
@Alize101586: I got your message. I can respect your decision to choose to go to optometry school. As long as you understand what you're getting into, I'd never tell you not to do it. Some people are ok working commercial and some people even like it, although I can't understand why. If you are planning on opening your own office, which it sounds like you are, be careful. Optometry is changing a lot and not for the better. Go out & talk to docs who've recently graduated. Just be careful.
@Alize101586, U will be working a crap commercial job, probably Walmart. Don't plan on ever owning your own practice, it's not practical anymore. An OD costs way too much for what it gets you and u will probably never be able to get a practice loan in the face of so much debt. I cant tell you what to study, but I can tell u 1st hand that an OD is not worth the time or money. Optometry used to be a great investment with an excellent return. It is no longer. My videos explain why.
Thanks for you advice, but this is something I want to do. God will see a way for me. What you say you shall have. I am going to pursue my goal and think positively.
@StayAwayFromAnOD Your videos explain JACK. Give me a break. Hey I'm not a big fan of corporations, either. However, what makes you think that it makes sense that an optometrist has his or her own private practice while there are so many ophthalmologists across America?
Many Americans are ABANDONING optometrists for one simple reason: it makes no sense to go to both an optometrist and an ophthalmologist. The later can do everything that an optometrist can PLUS surgeries that an OD can't.

@paige1073
Well, that's one of the prerequisite courses to get into Optometry school so you should be well rounded in the subject.
