So lovely. Thank you. This song always makes me cry...written more than 500 yrs ago and it shows that no matter what century you live in Christ' sacrifice touches us all the same...His love changes us.
Really well done! . . for my favorite CHORAL rendition of same, go to Youtube - Arwenitza, Exultate Choir, O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden. This Romanian Choir sings in the Cathedral of the Capitol. Their rendition, more so than any others, really helps one to CONTEMPLATE St. Bernard's words and J.S.Bach's music about Christ's suffering. At the same time, for me, your instruments succed in kindling the same disposition needed to approach this treasure of the Faith. Bob from London, Canada. Thanks
Jeff, Nestor, Ted, Eric . . four more, shall we say "brothers in the Spirit", who have been touched by J.S. Bach's gift to evoke the deepest part of our soul. The words derive from St. Bernard of Clariveaux ( 12th Century's most well-known Saint and founder of the Cistercian Monk communities; born near Dijon, France. His story is worth persuing). Bach's music, Bernard's meditation help to access the Lord's profound suffering on Calvary. Its fruit? True compassion. Bob . . with joyful THANKS!!
Thanks Jack. Really enjoyed that. Do you have any more vids of this group? Too bad they didn't get to play at the Congress meeting but very glad you recorded it so people over the whole world could be blessed by it.
Good old Johann Sebastian. Stems from Bach's St Matthew Passion and has also been done with the lyric Because All Men Are Brothers, as well as the basis for Paul Simon's ironically titled American Tune.
Wow! Thanks for pointing that out about Paul Simon's American Tune! I never made the connection before! Strange, it's so obvious... but I probably heard Paul's song first. I never heard Sacred Head until years after I became a Christian. No wonder I liked it right away!

Actually, I don't think Bach actually wrote the melody. I'm not sure who did, but I think Bach only added the harmony.
