I remember watching an interview Peca did the summer after this fight. He said that he hurt his shoulder at the start of the fight, and told Konowalchuk that he couldn't fight, but Konowalchuk still punched him until the refs stopped in. Peca said he lost all respect for Steve after this.
@hellonicetomeetyou he also sprained his wrist when he hit the ice.....i saw that interview too. Konowalchuk actually jumped peca to start the fight as well. Scum our best player and injure him at the very end of a game in the playoffs, classy
@buttkick22 well do you remember all the stuff that pecca did check out the vids, i remember pecca went after a player that had a concussion and in an earlier game and thats the reason they fought. He is just being a good leader thats why he was captain for years and went on being assistant captain on the Avalanche and i agree with Cara he is a really nice person.
@6422m i don't care what the description of the obviously biased person who hates peca made. Peca hit gonchar with a perfectly legal check (no penalty on the play) and knocked him out. I understand him being hated by washington after that. Which furthers my point that konowalchuk decided to play hero and jump peca. Peace did NOT instigate this fight. Steve the exact type of player that would do something like this. No shock...and "peca went after a player with a concussion" Huh? When?
@buttkick22 really, tell me a time that Steve did "something like this". and what he said in the interview was bullshit, Peca wines in the middle of the fight about his shoulder it was a ten second fight when could he stop. and again look at all the videos half have "pecca cheap shot" and even "Pecca grabs referee". Steve is not a dirty player like Pecca and barely fought but was a tough clean player who was on the receiving side of any dirty hits and was a great captain and now a good coach.

If you get jumped why should you feel mercy for someone who gets their shoulder hurt in the process of jumping you??? Especially after sending another player out with a concussion earlier in the game. Whether or not there was no penalty, anything that sends a player out with an injury is a questionable thing, because hurting someone isn't a clean thing to do.
@buttkick22 look at the description how Peca previously in the game hit and knocked Sergei Gonchar out of the game with a concussion. At the end of the game, Peca instigates the fight, proceeds to throw out his shoulder during the fight and Konowalchuk bloodies him in the process.
