  • I love this soundtracks whoever composed

  • I loved seeing all the comments here. I would like to add that this film was ahead of its time especially when dealing with anime. This was originally released in Japan in 1987 but was not released in the USA until 1995. I will admit the first time I watched this movie I underestimated it but I have been watching it over the last 15 years all I can say is this film was way ahead of its time. Absolutely masterful btw I became a big Ryuichi Sakamoto enthusiast afterwards.

  • This movie had good animation and the end credits theme was exquisite, but the movie was a total bore.

  • i love this movie so much and the symphonic score is stellar

  • The theory of evolution downgraded in a logical manner ; what is written in the Bible and to confirm the history of mankind

  • Very nice video! I wonder if anyone will post the actual closing credits of the film, from the snow flake scene to the wonderful slide show with the sepia stills of production art depicting historic events...

  • "Remember, we joined the academy together, What the hell has gotten into you"?

  • No doubt Gainax's best work. Yeah, you could argue that Eva is more popular. But can you argue that it equals WOH in terms of social commentary, plot and animation? BTW peeps, I'm still waiting for gainax to make a visual reference of this movie in Panty and Stocking.

  • Wonderful movie to say the least. It's not bleak, but hopeful in it's approach to a troublesome society, and for that it really deserves more recognition for not being so much about despair.

  • Fantastic soundtrack

  • Amazing anime. Changed my whole childhood

  • "This Is Sweet"

  • I am so relieved to find an AMV using a track from the OST. Honneamise is the best cinematic experience I have ever had in my life.

  • i cant describe it.....but this music is sooo amazing....

  • where did you get the song from?

  • My favorite movie of all time.

  • Thanks for editing this video together. It's a fitting tribute to the GREATEST film ever made. That's right, not just the greatest animated film.

  • Love the film, and I love your vid! :)

  • Great tune! a must have!

  • It can be a bit dull at times, but it's such a beautiful movie. It's very much like a fine wine that relies more on story, aesthetics, intrigue, and theme rather than lots of action. I do wish the flying in the clouds scene was longer. It still gives me goosebumps.

  • the bassline is just awesome!

    original 80s sound!!

  • This is a true classic of anime. I love how it has NASA in the credits, which no doubt explains the realism of the scene where the rocket takes Shirotsugh into orbit.

  • @cannonski It's interesting to note that the rocket is based on the design of the Vostok/R-7 rockets, the ones used to carry Yuri Gagarin and the other first Soviet Astronauts.

  • Great music !

  • The prayer that Shiro says at the end of this film is so beautiful that it ALWAYS makes me cry.

  • best animation ever

  • this movie helped me to find the truth, now i'm calm

  • this must be watched on bluray, one of the best anime i've seen. love this song

  • Awsome track man, maybe a fusion jazz, but, i love this tune. Keep it going. Guam U.S.A.................

  • that airplane training scene has some of the most beautiful animation I've ever seen in any anime... and I love the original music that plays during it. anyone know the name of the song that plays during the flight training scene in the movie?

  • I have thought about this movie and one thing that I loved about it was Ryuichi Sakamoto's score.

The music he made for the end was just brilliant.

Superb music to one of my all-time favourite anime movies of all-time.

Thank you so much for uploading it :-))

  • This is in my top three of best films ever.

  • Dude, this is sick. I've always wanted to see this movie. This tracks works perfectly. Well done.

  • you've GOT to see this movie... you just HAVE TO!

  • awesome song, awesome movie

  • 泣ける。。

  • 最高です。本当にありがとうございます。

  • man i dont know what it is about this film that just makes me love it.....it just might be the greatest film ever made

  • Truly one the greatest anime films ever...perhaps one of the greatest films ever...

  • the flight sequence where shiro is in the shinden is from start to finish amazingly the same you feel when you flight first time specialy light planes, the joy in the face, the g-force and the clouds, this movie is amazing, so well crafted, but it's not for everyone.

  • this anime movie rocks. its so different from our world. their world is two nations racing eachother to launch their space rocket to outerspace :D

  • erhmm, seems you didn't read any of modern history, about the cold war, and the Space race, between the URSS and USA, first to launch a man out in space, and after that, a man on the moon.

  • I have the movie and I love this track, Thanks for posting.... Guam U.S.A......

  • try listening to this followed by Ryuichi sakamoto's "forbidden colors" .

  • Thanks, this Anime is THE BEST of ALL TIME. Its tells a story of a very human, very imperfect man with the same questions as us all that becomes more then he believe he could be end. Rarely do you find stories like this that mix human faults, growing relationships and Faith in God so well. This is on par with even the great Ben Hur. The Anime Style, Artwork, Story and Music are simply the Best.

  • This is an awesome anime...it's definitely an underrated anime!for me one of the best anime movie ever!!j'm searching for the dvd ...but here in italy is "unavailable"!maybe someone of"you" can help me!ciao cheers from Italy

  • i found the dvd at a flea market..... it was like the holy grail to me

  • :S I wouldn't like to buy anything with fleas on it.

  • Indeed.

I did hear Americans arent educated on other cultures.

    ^^

  • "Wings of Honneamise" is one of my favourite movies, the story is wonderful and the animation is just a treat for the eyes. The 'first flight' sequence as partly seen here is one of the most true depictions of flight I've seen in anything, real or animated. The fumbling around with the oxygen mask and the joy on the character's face are all very much the kind of feelings I had when I first flew. Like Shirotsugh in this movie I haven't looked back.

  • thanks for the upload!!! BTW, do you know the name of the song played during the movie when he's on the flight test before he throws up? it's played with the piano...if you do, i would appreciate it...

  • WOH is a bit "off-the-wall" movie... like millennium actress. Good films tho. "Akira can't be beaten"

  • Sometimes the story seems a bit schizophrenic, but if you consider it purely in terms of production quality (i.e., the scoring and animation), it's really quite impressive.

  • awesome anime movie

  • I really hate anime but this movie was suprisingly good.

  • Thanks for posting this. Wings of Honneamise is my favorite anime. It is a thought provoking anime that forces you to think about the world around you. The rocket launch is has become one of the historic moments of anime.

  • That's a fun looking airplane, but I'd hate to land with such a narrow gear track in a heavy cross wind.

  • It looks a bit like XP-55 Ascender.

  • More like the Kyushu J7W1 Shinden actually.

  • Hey, this looks cool. Eh...did...did yoshiyuki sadamoto do the character designs?

  • I'm not really into anime and stuff, but this animation is great. Awesome music too.

  • Ryuichi Sakamoto composed this music.

This anime is created by GAINAX, also created Evangelion.

  • Yes, I'm aware of this. I watched Wings of Honneamise some 10 years ago.

  • watch this film. you will love it. trust me.

  • i saw this in theatre so long ago has it been that long 1988

  • Could you also uplodoad the whole test flight scene as it is in the movie? Please! I think you would agree with me that that's the best moment in all of the anime in history!

  • Best animation film of all time, best story I've ever seen... Seriously, this is a masterpiece, I think.

  • i agree

  • In my opinion, this film is every bit as revolutionary and vital as Akira, probably more. It's not only one of the best anime of all time, but also one of the best films of all time.

  • awesome movie, its cool they got customed vehicles, aircraft, etc. so alternative! :D

  • breathtaking

  • I love this film! One of the most inspiring movies ever made, never give up folks, there's some purpose for everyone on this planet.

  • i agree you comrade

  • good work!

  • One of the greatest movies ever made.

  • lol. I didn't realise I already posted here. I guess someone didn't agree with me.

  • Ryu Sakamoto's career as film music composer was launched by this.

    Inspired by "Right Staff",

the "Wing of Honneamise" was produced by GAINAX, whch was founded in 1984 for this anime film.

Now GAINAX is well-known for "Evangelion".

  • why don't they make movies like this anymore? I'm talking about the characters mostly. They're so intersting, and the story is simple, yet makes you wish it would keep going for longer. I loved it!

  • I think the music was created by Ryuichi Sakamoto....

  • Very good film, I expect most anime fans would not car too much but this film is certainly in the same league as Akira. An epic, may not be as popular as Akira and Ghost in the shell but the quality of the animation is great. If anyone knows of another anime film with such an unusual story line but excellent executed please let me know.

  • Well, not sure if you will like it, bue a month ago I've seen Gin-iro no kami no Agito, and for the most part liked it.. The begining of the movie is just great, and all in all, it's a great story

    Cheers

  • @Gispero I'll recommend an anime. It's a Movie Called Toward Terra (the movie not TV series). I think you'll like the movie. I know it's 3 years late, but I"m kinda in a Nostalgic anime mood today.

  • @Gispero The Patlabor films are equally excellent. The first has good animation, but the second is absolutely astounding, as an anime feature and as a science-fiction film.

  • @Gispero This is my all time favorite anime movie I've seen. Just love it. Everything about it is wonderful.

  • love this film and song.

i re-watch it almost every year.

  • a great movie and a great soundtrack , i'v got it but there is not the song on it that the chor is singing on the cemetery does anyone know were i can get it ?

  • h*t*tp://w*w*w.altpop.c*o*m/stc/reviews/wohcc.htm

  • Do you know anywhere they sell the soundtrack?

  • next year you should come to los angeles for the anime expo

  • Well, it sure is a landmark, and as a landmark in animation that it is, it's going to be released again on High Definition, either HD-Dvd or Blue-Ray, and it sure deserves it, the animation is far to complex to be viewed on a simple Dvd, and as it is, the simple Dvd is way to expensive.. If I have the possibility, I'm going to get it ;)

  • This is a landmark in animation, no matter the origin. It's influence is so apparent in anime these days, yet very few anime manage to capture Wings of Honneamise' magic and enduring nature.

  • just beautiful.. this is when i actually started taking anime seriously

  • Dont change anything :)

  • Great video!!

  • Glad you like it ;) Would you change anything?

    Appreciated, cheers

  • i love this movie
