  • I wish I saw this video before I went to Kyoto in 2004. The bus driver didn't speak English and I didn' speak enough Japanese. I just threw about 500 yen into the top slot and the bus driver got a little flustered... I wasn't until I saw this video that it all made sense... Live and learn I guess.

  • This is very useful information Richard. Thank you very much for sharing!

  • i want to ride a japanese bus to XD,but what happend if you don't pay?is thatbus driver looking and paying atention to the persons when they pay?

  • i used to pay for the bus it was 1.50 no matter the distance unless i had to get on another one!

xD i rather pay for what i ride

  • thank makes sence.

but what happens if you dont pay.

  • The same thing as not paying for a meal you've eaten, or for a haircut you've just gotten...

  • Japanese people is are all ninjas so they whoop your ass :P

  • that is sick. i wanna go there so badly. oooohhh! if i had the money.

  • Why are different tickets different prices?

  • travel further = pay more

  • how will they know?

  • It's called honesty....

  • yeh, i'm just used to paying one fixed price for the bus journey no matter how long or short the journey is.

do they do day or monthly passes like in the UK?

  • wooow now thats!! a bus!! high-teck

  • good vid. its actually really helpful if u've never used a Japanese bus before

  • richard how about japanese bicycle? how much it cost and do they have a plate number or a registration?how much and where can i get a registration number for a bicycle? domo arigato!

  • Wow!!

  • Now when i go to japan (sometime in my life i totally HAVE to) i will know!

Arigoto! (did i spell that right?)

    hehe!

  • Arigatou. XD

  • its arigatou...

  • huh!?

    :P cool!

  • lol thats actually really kool lol.

  • i saw lately a video of a cellphone in japan is used like an ATM card, that you can use when shopping... is a cellphone like those also can used in the bus when paying a fare.??? or is ATM card card be use in a bus?

  • i can wait im planning my first trip to japane next may (lol thats a while away) but your videos are a great help i shouldnt get as lost ^-^

  • sort of like a bus that works like a taxi meter.

    Brilliant!

  • Seconded - no risk of misscommunication and super-quick payment (just chuck in your coins and away you go).

  • Never been on one of those buses before. Got the limosine bus to shinjuku from narita airport which i paid upfront for 3000yen, and at uni all the buses in the area (Mitaka, Musashino, Kichijoji etc) cost 210yen regardless of where you get on or off and you pay up front, though you can use a suica or pasmo to pay rather than hunting for loose change. So there are different ways of paying for different bus companies maybe?

  • Whats the "top bit"? The yellow slit or the red box thing? ..The next step is to replace the driver with a robot.. Lol

  • Thats soo cool.

    Do you live In Japan?

  • nimoca cards are the way forward if its nishitetsu

  • but you can use pasmo or suica right? and that wha they called tekki? or teki?whatever.lol.

  • Way too complicated system. In my country we have a flat fee. We pay as we get onboard and off we go. So simple even I can use it.

  • wow, i love how hes wearing a hat and gloves. looks very professional.

  • Does the ticket for student or children is more cheaper?

in my country, ticket for student is more cheap but u must wearing the school uniform when u get the ticket on the bus.

  • *notices that O sensi is on the poster on the bus..* Man I have gone to Aikido one too many times... LOL

  • This is sooo cool. Though don't they have a monthly or weekly ticket like thing?

  • Oh thats how !!!

I didn't notice the money thing on top of the bus... I usually just ask the bus driver "How much?" & he just tells me. But thats great help ! Thanks ! (^-^)

  • this will help alot! domo arigato!

  • Wait!- What if you forgot your wallet, but didn't realize it until you've reached your destination? Would you be arrested, or something?

  • All Japanese bus drivers are samurai trained and carry "untenshi" katakana at their sides.

Those white gloves are there for a reason you know.

Forced decapitation for said offence I'm afraid.

  • Really!?! no lie?!

  • Except when they want to crash into cars coming in the other direction.

  • dam its like a taxi fair

  • Oh no, taxis are waaaaayyyy more expensive!

  • thanks, that will be helpful when i visit tokyo

  • cool!!! wish i was there

  • Awesome...

  • you pay 140 yen? how much is it in u.s. money?

  • It's usually around 100 yen to the dollar, so around $1.40 or maybe a little less with the rates today.

  • Awesome, where do you get your ticket is it by the back doors or where you pay up front? I'm on a need to know basis lol.

  • By the back door

  • WOW! that's so different from America...that's amazing :D

  • i'd still be confused as hell trying to get around lol

  • A GPS iPhone is a big help!

  • i like the fact bus driver wears white glove that means they keep germs bacteria to themself.
