A lot of people don't know this, but Ms. Page was married to actor Rip Torn who was a cousin to actress Sissy Spacek. Torn was from Taylor, Texas, Spacek was from Quitman, Texas. When she wanted to act in 1972, Torn and Page were heavyweights on Broadway. Spacek was as lucky as she was talented. Check out her first movie, l973's BADLANDS with Martin Sheen and Warren Oates. Proof that who you know or are related to CAN be a door opener in acting, writing and singing.
@taypar11 You're absolutely right when you mention how talented Sissy Spacek is. But BADLANDS wasn't her first movie. Her first film appearance was in a movie called PRIME CUT from 1972. If you haven't seen that, I highly recommend that you check it out.
When youo watch Geraldine Page in a character role you do not even know it is her on the screen. It is a real character being filmed. What A great actress. The greatest. I still miss her more than anyone can k now. Thanks for this post.
Hannah's rant to him was essentially very true. A lot of NYers and others just did not want to hunker down and be fully honest. I was one of the mixed breed and paid the price. Think about it, people. It never leaves you unless you are as open about it as I have been. Oh, and I kept one foot solid in straight, always. Retired. Go for it. Square, but very good advice. Crime does not pay. Really. Save up for your shrink bills! And all the disapproval, the suspicion.
That's M. Emmit Walsh there as the Detective. He was the Dr. with his hand up Chevy Chase's ass in FLETCH among many roles such as THE BEST OF TIMES with Robin Williams. Check out that babe with the sliver workout suit. Man, what a babealious thing she is. The gate kieeper was cool, just doing his job is right.
The greatest English speaking actress in the world--the best of her day!!!! How I miss her. Thanks for this post. I cannot take my eyes off her when the camera is on her. What a professional performer!!!
Micky Rourke always said this was his favorite movie that he's ever made and that making it was the happiest time of his life. Nice to see one of our greatest actors at his best.
Awesome. Thank you so much for posting this. I went to see this movie when it first came out in 1984, and this is the scene I remember best. Miss Page was indescribable. "The Trip to Boutiful" is the film that made me a hardcore fan of hers and is her greatest performance, but this one ranks up there with it. What a talent. Thanks again.
thanks for uploading that scene I've wanted to see it for years and years and I was not a fan of the movie over all...but she was channeling my mother in that scene, I
get the chills from her strength...my mother was southern but had that very same
edge to her when someon tried to run over her...lol...thanks for the memory...JJ
really hard to believe Charlie would tell his girlfriend all the details of the heist, and where he stashed the fifty grand, then leave the money there after she slaps him three times.....
2:10-3:41 What my mother acutally said to me after a family funeral that I didn't attend: "They all asked about you. I felt like I was giving Geraldine Page's monologue from The Pope of Greenwich Village when I described how you're doing." (meaning, in her eyes, she had to tell a bunch of lies to cover for me.)
@MJLatora Geraldine Page was awesome in this. But I have a soft spot for the aerobics class scene. Something about a room full of beautiful women in leotards appeals to me.

You want to see geraldine page's range as an actor? Watch "the trip to bountiful". Complete 180 of a character from this one.

Geraldine Page rocks it like no other. She deserved that Best Supporting Actress Oscar .

You simply will never see better acting ever, anywhere, than Geraldine Page from :20 to 4:15.

@MJLatora I agree, she was underrated. Such attitude with a mother's love.

@MJLatora Amen to that- She could do anything

I intend to spend my entire golden years emulating Miss Page in this scene.
I have a feeling that it will be very helpful in keeping people from fucking with me when my body is frail but my mind is still sharp.

@MJLatora "...You wanna FIGHT officer...?". She should have won the Oscar for supporting that year. Woman from " A Passage to India" won. No contest.

Geraldine Page was and will always be the greatest actress that ever lived. Two short scenes in this film got her a much deserved Oscar nomination.

"My Walter was as tough as a bar of steel, and he didn't get that from his father".
Mom didn't play. I felt sorry for her, though. Walter was all she had.
