Well, if you actually heard the entire message sent to Iowa voters by Brownback, you would hear "Mitt Romney proclaims himself to be pro-life, nothing could be further from the truth" and then the accusations come in. And Romney was right, that message is untruthful, since Romney is solidly pro-life now.
I believe it. I'm just curious whether Brownback was dredging up old opinions, or just making shit up wholesale... and nobody knows the answer better than Romney himself, I figure.

While I can't speak for Mitt I can say that trying to govern a one party state like Massachusetts was not an easy thing to do. I am sure (mostly because I have seen it first hand) Mitt's views changes a lot while he was a republican governor in a state that can count republicans on one hand. The Video where he talks about his debate with Kennedy in 94 seems to answer some of your questions. Or at least it made the situation more clearer for me.
