@Yrgen2 Reading annotations at the start of the video must be real tough for you, I hope you'll manage because the obvious pain it's bringing you is also making you look like an idiot.
@SebastianK94 You are/were a swedish nerd with a hyperactivity disorder or possibly adhd. Thats why this was painfull to watch. I missed the annotations in the beginning. I hope you've calmed your nerves down over the years then.
I dropped at 5:54 because I have a trackpad. Also because I could not understand what you were saying. Please upload tutorials where you speak clear + slow :)
Are you using a specific plug-in? My nodes panel ends at "Glow" and doesn't have anything beyond that like yours, so I don't have the option to add ambient occlusion to the surface shader... I'm using Maya 2009 and I checked this on another computer with Maya 2010 and it has the same problem.
@phubans Nevermind, my panel was set to Maya nodes, not MR nodes... But I don't know if you mention that in your tutorial! If you did and I missed it, then pardon my ADD :)
If time permits can you please do a tutorial on how to bake textures in maya and also on creating good transitions on Adobe AFX while creating a demo reel break down.
Great tutorial. Maybe extend it with rendering wireframe ambient occlusion? Not that I need it, but it would be cool since this is a great way for ambient occlusion. I found another way which wasn't this simple. thank you
Ok, so I've had such a hard time trying to figure this out and your tutorial actually worked - and REALLY well....thank you so much. And I'm happy you went really slowly cus I'm quite a beginner. The only suggestion I'd give you is (and this is since you've aimed this at beginners) is maybe advice how to see the MR nodes (Hypershade - create all nodes) cus that took me time to figure out. Am going to use this to re-render bits of my video Juicy, otherwise done in Maya 7. I've subscribed, Thanks.
But in all honesty people that don't know where there middle mouse button is, or how to use it in Maya have no business in modeling, let alone ambient occlusion rendering :)
Oldest versions of maya may not have that option. it is helpful to use old methods.
in the industry, companies might be using old versions like maya 6 or so, they dont spend money buying new version because they have a few updates. However, yes it is easier and better just to do an ambient occlusion pass. thats how I would do it.
Nice Tutorial, awesome quality. What do you use to capture?
Also, tip: I got stuck half way in, took me a while but I figured out if you don't see the "textures" section in the hypershade you may have to click "Create Maya Nodes" and change it to "Create All Nodes"
I can't thank you enough for this tutorial... For the best part of last year I scoured the web for AO tutorials, and wept. Time after time I watched Maya spit out a mostly white, grainy images - before crashing about half way through the render. Finally the obfuscation is over, It's flipping simple... I new it would be! Again, thank you from the deepest pit of my soul (which is now nicely illuminated with an AO node).
Awesome thanks you saved my bacon... well... if you class a degree as bacon

Hmm. Does Maya 8.5 not have this feature? I too cannot access the textures tab.

My Maya 2009 doesn't even have a "Textures" pull down menu.

I can't figure out how to bake ambient occlusion using maya 8.5... I just can't find anything that relates to texture baking at all.

Excellent instructions for a moron like me, followed them to a T and it worked wonderfully.

Why not just do an ambient occlusion render pass? It's a lot easier for complex scenes...

i like the zooms.

really good Sebastian. I love the hd quality. Maybe a wee bit too much zooming into menu areas though.
Dolvid 3 years ago
Yeah I know. :/ I'll make significantly less zooming from now on, seeing as in HD quality you can see everything anyways.

Audio is a little iffy but overall good tutorial.
