I listened to his songs all through college. I loved the story about why he started singing. He said he saw that Elvis got a lot of girlfriends with singing and so he thought it was a great idea. It WAS a cool idea Rick and we loved your songs and your singing!! LOL sweet man. We miss you bunches!
Personal family troubles and the celebrity life of fame and travel (and alimony) took its toll. We wish his life had been steady. He set the mold for youthful country-rock that became the norm by the mid '70s. R.I.P. and thanx.
Ricky Nelson was a fantastic performer. He had a great voice. Chose a great guitar player to back him up, Jim Burton. He sold 65,000,000 records. Too bad he died tragically Decemeber 31,1985, and never got his due as a strong influence in Country Rock with "The Stone Canyon Band". Rick went far beyond "Poor Little Fool"
Sad, all those people there in the Stone Canyon Band and Rick burned to death because of a stupid cabin heater/electrical problem. Everyone but the background singers. I remember that New Year's R.I.P.
Saw Ricky perform at the Oregon State Fair - can't remember exactly what year. Could've been Aug of 1985. I'll have to look up what year he was there. Grew up watching Ozzie & Harriett. One of my favorites.
we used to love to watch the Ozzie & Harriet show but I was in love with Ricky and just knew one day I would marry him. Alas it was not to be. But to this day I still crush on him everytime I hear his song or see a picture of him. He is stll great in my book.
just curious 'bout the age range of rickys fans.....im 44 .....my youngest daughter is 12 and i caught her giggling at this clip at the point where he goes in to the bridge and throws his shoulder back and nods his head ....very cute...she couldnt deny it...
What a good looking man, and such a great voice! Too many great ones die too soon, very sad. Wonder what he would think if he knew he was still being listened to and enjoyed!
Ricky Nelson was one of the greats, I was only 1 when died, I love the great oldies. This was just a few months before he died. So sad he died so young and in a plane crash.
Ricky is so so good looking in this video, and that smile he gives at 11 seconds.
If they ever made a movie about Ricky Nelson, any ideas who could play him?
@SnowflakeSparkles26 i was 18 when ricky nelson died.....always loved him.....watch him today on dvd, Ozzie and Harriet......what a great talent.....and i love his smile, thats why i watch this clip over and over......melts my heart......
@SnowflakeSparkles26 At a mall in Va Beach, I bought my wife a set of large pics of idols. The only one without a 'stamped' autograph was Ricky Nelson. I joked that if we ever saw him in concert, we could get a real signature. 3 years later, in Summerville, SC, we went to see him in concert. She stood at the edge of the stage for the whole show. When he came out for a final bow, she waved her picture of him. He took it, asked where she got it and signed it. She still has it in a frame today.
Ricky was great .My first concert. Age 5, steel pier in Atlantic city , sitting on my dads shoulders in 1960 . Doesn't even seem real Now. Reel ahead now 50 years and my wife, son (musician age 21) and I are big fans of Ricky's kids life sure is a paradox sometime ... peace Ricky
I too remember when Mr. Rick Nelson died... I'm sorry he went in a Plane Accident... yet I'm glad he allowed his Identical Twin Sons' Gunnar & Matthew Nelson, to live...for losing them that day, would've been Horrible for their family & for their fans', me (included).
Bobby does a great job of covering the parts that James invented, but I would have liked to hear him on a Tele, which has more low-end bite than the strat.
Rick Nelson was one of my favorite singers of all time but did anyone notice that he must've accidentally opened with the 2nd stanza first and ended up having to repeat it. Mistakes like this happen-he covered it up like a pro...R.I.P.
you are misinformed, the plane a DC-3 had a malfuntioning heater shunt on one of the vintage palnes engines, and that is what brought them down and killed Rick, and half his Stone Canyon Band, not "nose candy" as many others have thought as well, and have been ill informed by a vicious rumour.
Rick was no coke head, in fact unlike Elvis and MJ he was a saint by comparisons, but he was no angel, just a great person who sang/performed sweet.
hammerman7777 - Don't know where you've gotten your info ... it's been proven that the heater set the fire in the plane & that they were not free basing.
@Ssssstones Yea! Isay the same s$#t about James Joseph Croce's f%$king plane! The frickin' irony of it, 2 of my favorites had to go the same way. WHY!
Bobby Neil was indeed great My band used to open for Rick in the Detroit area. Bobby would use my amp (I played thru a twin). The entire band were very kind and decent people.
The day Rick and the band died was a very sad day in my life.
No. James Burton was the lead guitar player on his early recordings and many other famous musicians records. He played with Elvis in his last days in Vegas. The band that plays on this video and died with him in the DC-3 crash on New Years Eve was the Stone Canyon Band.
i saw him in 1985 england a place called harrogate yorkshire ..it looks like that show i was at
