Okay, let me make this clear. I don't hate this show; I find it unfunny, but I don't hate it. It would be more accurate to say it confuses the hell out of me; I feel like it's making a statement that's going over my head. The film crew is too dumb for us to sympathize entirely with video game culture enthusiasts, Mickey is too unsympathetic for us to be meant to agree with his anti-gamer sentiments, and no strong arguments or statements are made one way or another.

This episode highlighted that. Okay, Mickey is more than just a small-time crook, he's a legitimately bad guy. ...So? What is the audience meant to walk away from this with? All it does is make the Boss's insistence that he stay on all the more confusing. I just don't get what the point of this show is at the end of the day. It seems like a drama experiment in putting antagonizing cultures in the same room, but the only thing we learn from that is "Mickey throws tantrums."

Perhaps it's meant to be an analogy for situations where corporate executives meddle in the creative process and force writers to knowingly produce horrid crap that the writers don't even want their names on. ...If that's the case, then this show still falls flat because the analogy falls apart when you remember that Mickey doesn't want to write better shows than WVGJ4K, he wants to steal car radios and sell crack.

@zipperintheback Maybe there's no statement, and it's about the little knocks at gaming culture, like "MGS4 vs Fallout 3", or any scene where June opens her mouth. If that's the case, though, you don't even need Mickey the Dick because he over-compensates as a foil; any straight man will get irritated by Eric and June pretty fast. If this is also trying to make stabs at Mickey's stance, though, it would again help if there were actual responses to his outbursts instead of stunned silence.

Either that, or this is punishment by a drug cartel for some debt he never paid. These two are the only reasons I can think of, because they're the only ones that would place the Boss in a position where he NEEDS to keep Mickey around. The Boss being strongarmed into placing Mickey in the show by some more powerful force is the only way this show makes any sense, as Mickey has made it clear from day 1 that he is intentionally sabotaging the show.
