Thanks so much for this video, it is very helpful. However when using Camino and downloading videos to RealPlay SP for mac the video is "untitled". When using Safari the downloaded video are "Titled" The speed saving using Camino is lost when it is necessary to write in Every Title after a download. Is there a way to get Camino to download to RealPlayer SP and show the Title? Thanks.

@TheComandercooter Search flash for PPC. there is a video with a download link, and instructions in the description. The read me file in the download also contains instructions on how to install it. It works well from my experience.

discovered how to stream HD (720p) on an ibook G4 1.2ghz. Coreplayer is required, as is tenfourfox, and downloadhelper and flashvideoreplacer extensions. Both extensions have a "copy url" function in the submenus, select 720p stream, paste into Coreplayer (which is shareware and costs 20 bucks) and stream away. Same function can be used in Mactubes, start a download, then drag that file and drop it onto coreplayer. HD streaming on a G4!

at 1:15-1:17 I see that the Operating system is WAY TOO MUCH....look at how slow the Refresh Rate is....I haven't seen it that bad since I tried to run Windows XP Professional on an Intel Pentium 90 MHz Toshiba Satellite Laptop....I kept it that way for about 7 minutes & I reformatted it back to Windows 95

I was using a 1.33 Ghz computer in the video, but had I been using an 800 Mhz, the effect would have been exactly as shown. I didn't feel like switching computers.

Very cool video! I just got a 14in 1.42 G4 with DVD/RW and it runs well enough. It is running Tiger with 1 gig of ram. I am still looking for what software runs best on it and what just doesn't. Very good video. Shows the iBook very nicely. I will be watching more of your videos and see what else there is.

iTunes? Yes, if you run leopard I believe the highest iTunes you can use is 9.2 or something. Sony Vegas? Nope. Sony Vegas is not compatible with OSX. It would be a terrible experience anyways even if you had the highest clocked CPU.

Great video and will be helpful once I get my uncle's hand-me-down iBook. Its a bit pricy and might not be worth it in most cases but OWC offers sandforce based SSDs for G4 based Macs like the iBooks and Powerbooks. I bought one for my old Toshiba Tecra with an IDE drive and it now feels like a new computer.

actually, in Camino it plays better because HQ was disabled. In my experience Safari is the best browser for G4's and G5's.

@winfr34k - You are not the first to mention that.. However, that is not the reason. I did that to simulate the difference because I was using a 1.33 Ghz G4 in the video which played just as good in both browsers. Where in the slower iBooks, there was similar difference just from the browser.

@DaYamahaRida Uh,, you can't because you can never change proccesors of any macs, G3s to Intel Core i7. So Technically Apple sottered the processor on the motherboard because they want to make sure your proccesor is obselite; so it can be an excuse for buying a new mac. so if you take the proccesor of the mac out, then the computer will never work with a different one.

That's how i have no choice but to live with the G3 I already have.

@pufixas you need to download Youview or Mactubes. Both play Youtube outside of a browser, using Quicktime or FFMPEG instead of Flash. Your ibook will be MUCH cooler. Flash is quite possibly the worst piece of software ever written, just a wrapper around a codec, its the codec that matters. Death to Flash.

The ibook is a great machine. I have a 2005 G4, the hardware is great. It's just a solid computer. It's been: Taken apart twice, and put back together horribly, dropped 3 times, kicked (I'm not kidding), and has had 7 different operating systems on it (OS X, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, FreeBSD, Gentoo, and Arch Linux). Except the wifi card isn't working after years of use, so I'm just gonna go with a USB one. P.S. right now I'm using Arch Linux PPC, it's AWESOME!

just downloaded the latest mactubes (3.0.3) and I thought I would let you know its

better than youview in that you can use html5 or quicktime codecs. The quality on the quicktime player is SPECTACULAR. On my ibook g4 1.25ghz the high quality flash files are the best, almost 720p I would say. It still chokes on true HD, no surprise there. With mactubes you can also easily download, a nice feature. You will need the very latest quicktime (7.6.4), and Perian to play flash files.

@parrott116 Yes...you need an SV cable. But you also need an interpreter thing, I forget what it's called, I got one and it works fine. You connect the SV cable from the TV and the other end goes in the interpreter, which plugs into the ibook.

Most laptops don't need an interpreter...that's one of the reasons ibook sucks.

I love my g4 ibook (which I just bought a couple months ago - to replace an underpowered eeepc)...got it for $179 on ebay...looks and works AMAZING....awesome to take to the coffee shop and browse and write emails. Sure you probably wont' want to try to run final cut pro on it...but for word processing (try open office), email, youtube....I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. :) Also these are great if you have a middle-schooler who needs a laptop...no camera. :)

I just got a used (but in great condition) g4 and I really want to watch DVDs on it. But when I put a dvd in the disk drive, a little icon of a DVD shows up underneath the little Macintosh HD icon, but the DVD wont play. I downloaded the VLC Player that you recommended (and it's compatable), but it wont open. Its on the little bar that holds the applications, but when I click on it, it bounces once and then doesnt load. And I'm not really sure what's wrong. Can you help?

@dustin102432 - You can edit video on a G4, but it is slow. And you have to use either iMovie or an older version of Final Cut Pro (the newer version is not supported on G4). I have made several of my videos using a G4.
