  • backwards idiot who didn't pay attention for 20 years before. This delusion that 100% laissez faire and no regulation can work in a magical happy land is just as moronic as Marxism.... Libertarians are such a joke

  • @hellboundmatt Yeah I know right. We can't let people be free and make their own decisions.

  • Afterwards, Nixon took over the GOP ship and put into practice all that Goldwater abhorred about US politics...

  • Moral responsibility means voting against the Civil Rights Act, doesn't it Barry? Hypocrite and sham. Destroyed in a record landslide in 1964. Shattered his party and allowed Nixon to take it over. Scandal there Barry? Look past the rhetoric, and see what this line of thinking led to. Goldwater enabled everything he fear-mongered about to come to pass.

  • I believe Barry Goldwater's idea of Moral Responsibility, was that people should have the Individual Freedom. To live their own lives as they see fit as long as they are not hurting anyone else with their freedom. And then be held accountable for all of their actions good and bad.

  • Really nothing has changed in 47 years, has it.

  • @102LBC

Your right he's a Democratic Socialist which is different

  • @FRSFreeState

These days it seems like the only honest people are libertarians and democratic socialists.

Big difference in their aims, but they are both against corruption and both against unnecessary wars.

  • @102LBC

Sen. Bernie Sanders who's an admitted Democratic Socialist, Rep. Dennis Kucinich where its hard to tell the difference between him and Sen. Sanders. And the House Progressive Caucus.

  • The LBJ counter-ads advertised: "In your guts, you know he's nuts."

  • I think this commercial was an attempt to appeal to the Christian Right that wasn't quite that big and organized yet. But the problem for Barry Goldwater was he was a Conservative Libertarian who was never trusted by Christian Conservatives.

  • @FRSFreeState The liberal establishment actually had forensic psychiatrists churn up some real shit about Barry Goldwater showing signs of inchoate paranoid schizophrenia. Now why would those on the left, and in Washington, have anything to fear from what Barry Goldwater spoke? This psychiatric vilification goes on today, and is the most effective means of discrediting individuals, especially from holding office. This is no different than some religious test, passing this sanity gauntlet.

  • @whiff1962

Again you have liberals mixed up with Democratic Socialists which are two different Political Animals. All you have to do to believe that is look at how the Far Left is treating the President who is a Liberal Democrat like myself. But he's not a Democratic Socialist which is what they want.

  • Now banks cannot forclose on deadbeats? They won't raise retirement of Social Security to 85? They won't cut entitlement programs and give everybody a tax cut. They will never cut spending.

  • @ToxicOdiousOne But we can cut them!

  • @offenbachstutz Lol Bush expanded the size of government and spent more than any president before him. He expanded the size of medicare and medicaid and bailed out the banks. Oh ya and then there was the patriot act which limited individual freedom and intrdouced parentalism. To say Bush was small government is probably the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

Also why is Obama continuing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, bombing Pakistan and extending the Patriot Act?

  • Yes, moral responsibility is out of style. At least it is in this day and age. "The philosophy of something for nothing." That sounds like a lot of Americans, and a lot of American politicians we see on TV everyday.

  • He was not an extremist at all. You have been spoon fed lies by the liberal media. Goldwater had libertarian views. So calling him an extremist is like calling our founding fathers extremists am i right? He was a very intelligent and wise man. It is a shame he was never able to become president.

  • amen ..the guy is talking about moral responsability and self responsability we know america don't wanna hear that...liberal american anyway

  • The Conscience of a Conservative is a classic work.... Rush Limbaugh said at CPAC that 'conservatism is what it is and it is forever!' May the voices of Goldwater, Reagan, and all those who walk their paths ring throughout history.

  • The old man just might be right: "We as a nation are not too far from the moral decay that has brought the fall of other nations and people." Yahoo, MSN, Google all accepting ads from "Government Grant Made Easy Organizations" so crooked that their domain registration lists addresses that don't even exist. Shame on the big internet companies for taking ad dollars from crooks.

  • the only thing not accurate is that the kids fighting in the streets and inner cities are of a different color.. people wont want to admit it cuz everyones so pc, but its true

  • very true..
