This came out during the Depression of the 1930's as a sort of "propaganda" song to help make people feel a little better and that things were actually going to get better, someday. WWII solved that, though, by sending half the population of to get killed and putting the rest back to work. It's a great song though. Thanks!
This is not the same recording used, the one using was by Glenn Miller and His Orchestra.
And yes I agree, but anything can be used to make a sexual reference now-days. For example, many people put the words "In Bed" after literally any saying and it manages to work quite well as sexual reference.
@DVA5212 I'm here because of Family Guy but it was because I appreciate this kind of music that I looked for it. It doesn't sound like the same version as the one on Family Guy tho.
i herd this on family guy an had to find great music ! got a stack of this old music in the atic an an old player lol will be listeing to it again this is sic !
Even though the song was written by Irving Berlin, 'Lola', it was credited on the "HOTW" label as performed by "Phil Spitalny's Music". The Eton Boys {Jack Day, Earl Smith, Art Gentry, Charles Day} were actually featured with Helen Rowland on this one, not "The Spitalny Trio". The song was also used as the theme for the original radio edition of "FATHER KNOWS BEST" between 1949 and '52, because Maxwell House Coffee was its original sponsor....
WHEN I WAS IN MY EARLY 20'S I WORKED IN A FANCY RESTAURANT AS A SALAD CHEF , MY DUTIES WERE TO CLEAN UP THE DINNING ROOM FIRST . I WOULD PUT THIS RECORD SOUNDTRACK OF PAPER MOON ON THE TURNTABLE , I BELIEVE I DROVE EVERYONE NUTS WITH IT . I LOVED IT SO MUCH . THANKS GREAT STUFF
@RatPfink66 yes you are right it has been so many years ago , thanks for the tip , i think i like the other version just slightly better but this one is great also , born too late thank
Why do you write "Phil Spitalny's music"? The song was written by Irving Berlin, melody and lyrics. It was from the stage production "Face the Music", and was later used in the movie "There's No Business Like Show Business."
Recorded for "Hit Of the Week" (flexible paper-backed 78rpm records sold at newsstands for 15 cents each, with new ones issued every week from 1930 through the end of 1932), with Helen Rowland and "The Spitalny Trio", in April 1932. Despite President Hoover's suggestion in the lyrics, nobody was buying much of anything at the time...even apples on street corners.
This is about the depression, not FUCKING FAMILY GUY

spot on ITube. Reminder of the Depression (I remember it well)..
and the words and bright, cheery tune might be welcome today !

DVA5212 1 year ago 6
@DVA5212 I am, but I'm deeply weird compared to most Family Guy fans.
Is this the recording used in the show? 1920s & 30s music actually is associated (somewhat unfairly) with sexual deviants in the modern age.

Notice the song titles referenced in the lyrics:
Hallelujah! Theres a Rainbow in the Sky!—Vernon Dalhart & Adelyn Hood, 1930
The Clouds Will Soon Roll By—Bert Ambrose, 1932
Let a Smile Be Your Unbrella—Roger Wolfe Kahn, 1928
April Showers—Al Jolson, 1922
Look For the Silver Lining—Marion Harris, 1921
Boldorion1958 2 years ago 2
Thank you for pointing out all these titles! What fun, how Irving Berlin just rolled all these titles and cliches into one song.
