  • This is so utterly heartbreaking yet too meaningful for us not to listen to. I had a "Tom" in my life - I felt the same helpless feelings of despair, wondering what, if anything, I might have/could have/should have done to save my Mom's life. If only she had thought enough of herself to "trouble me" with what she was going through. I am 44 and have spent the last 14 years wishing that I, too, could go back in time to convince her that I loved her more than I guess she ever gave me credit for.

  • @LPalmer66 All these years later, I still think of Mom every day and the pain grows stronger, deeper and the feeling of loss more wretching as time goes by. Sadly, this kind of loss does not ease over time, it's the opposite - it's just that you accept the pain in silent absolution and it becomes a part of you forever. No matter how well adjusted and pulled together you are, they take a piece of you with them that you never get back.
