@sc0pl355 - I was going to include a reference to the build quality vids by you and ADR at the end of one of my Mac VS PC videos - just to appreciate the humour in both of them.
However, in view of the fact that ADR has removed the original video, I thought it fair on everyone (respecting copyright as indicated by Youtube) not to reference the videos unless gaining permission from both of you for me to do so.
I'd like to upload my two Mac VS PC vids tomorrow.
hey sc0pless I have my G5 still and it still runs as good as it did the day i got it... and looks brand new as well.. I can't believe they are still ppl on here talking about this build quality bullshit.. Great video Keep them coming my friend...
About this build quality thing... yeah, the newest 2010 Macbook Pros, um, overheating much? 45+ degrees C on idle, loud fans, uncomfortably sharp edges, and the power cord broke 1 month after I got it (not sure how a cable can break, but yeah). Build quality? Well, it's not bad, but it's not good either. It cost me $2500, I don't really regret it, but it is nowhere near perfect or even ideal in the build quality/design department. My PC ntbk was plastic and massive but it was more comfortable.
I've only seen one report of the new MBP overheating and in that one there was clearly something up with the test itself.
"45+ degrees C on idle"
How is that uncommon for a laptop.
"it is nowhere near perfect"
Superior does not mean perfect or the best. Whether you like your laptop or not is not my concern. It is all subjective. My OPINION is that Apple has good build quality. Anyhow thanks for watching.
@sc0pl355 I haven't seen reports. I use one for school, doing my homework in a text editor while running on battery power got it to 50c. Now I wouldn't care if it's 200c on the inside, but I do care because the whole thing gets uncomfortable, particularly the left side. I got the processor to 30% once, I was afraid it's gonna melt, or spin up a hurricane with the way the fans were going.
Like I said, I'm not dissatisfied with it, but aside from Windows, PCs today are basically the same thing.
@PoliticalHell 50c is uncomfortable? In what realm? You must take Ice Cold showers every day, or something...
I'd care if the thing were 200c inside because that is well beyond the components limit, I think. The highest that I got my Macbook to go was 70c under heavy load.
"I got the processor to 30% once, I was afraid it's gonna melt,"
No, it won't melt at 30%. Also, Aluminum and other metals actually spread heat out instead of insulating it, which is a good thing.
@sc0pl355 Well body temperature is 37c, so yeah 50c is hot. Granted it was nowhere near 50c on the outside, but when it warms my hands while I'm just trying in a text editor, that kind of sucks.
Mine got to 93 playing WoW once. Got a cooling pad and fan controller to fix that, to an extent anyway.
I realize it won't literally melt. The i7 is overly powerful considering it isn't really gonna reach its potential in a MBP. My opinion, i5/7 = higher price, and price tag > comfort for Apple.
@PoliticalHell 50c is about the temp of a morning shower to me.
The case should be about 30 degrees. Right now, my enclosure bottom side is at 30 degrees and my cpu temp is at 54 degrees. Presently, I have a few apps open. Like photoshop, itunes and a couple browsers. I barely feel any warmth.
@PoliticalHell Also, i highly doubt that Apple used i7's as some kind of precept to raise the price of their Macbook Pro's. In fact, the i5-7 MBP's cost less than the Core 2 models that they replaced. I remember that the 15 inch MBP used to start at $2k, now it's $1700.
@sc0pl355 Well, my old hunk of junk got hot too, but it never spread to the whole computer. The idea to have the case share the heat with the user is just a poor solution in my opinion. I'd rather have it .5" thicker. It is, after all, a Macbook Pro, not an Air.
The old core-2's used to cost 2k+, then they lowered the price drastically in 2009, and with the i series they bumped it up again by about $100-200.
I like having the i7, but all things considered, I payed for the OS and the design factors, and only one and a half of them are coming through so far. Wouldn't it be awesome if there was a laptop that gave you no BS, and just worked like it should? I'm sorry to say that Apple hasn't found that solution yet, at least not for me.
Again, it's an awesome laptop, but amazingly overrated. I can't say about other models, but I do hear iMacs aren't at the top of their game as of late either.
@PoliticalHell "Wouldn't it be awesome if there was a laptop that gave you no BS, and just worked like it should? "
Yeah, I've had two. My Lombard and my Macbook.
"at least not for me."
Can't please everyone. I'm happy with what I have. Look, you are entitled to your opinion, but I think that you are being more than a bit overzealous on this. Your complaints are coming off a bit like a droning bleat as opposed to a legitimate complaint.
@PoliticalHell OMG, the temperature is not that hot unless you like shoveling snow in your underwear. That thing is hardly a Powermac G5 sitting in your lap. If you'd rather the computer be 1.5 inches thick with a plastic case, then go buy a Dell. Your components will be just as hot, but oh well. Apple sells slimline aluminum laptops. If you don't like that, then go elsewhere.
There's no reason to use more expensive parts as an excuse to raise the price, that was my point.
@sc0pl355 I admit I do complain, but only about things that exist to complain about. Just like it would be a completely fanboy thing to say OS X is perfect or better than Windows in every way, same applies to the hardware. Some get parts right, some get parts wrong. Overall, OS X and the Macbook tend to hold up higher than the norm, but nothing escapes my wrath of complaints, and frankly I won't make an exception for Apple products just because Apple made them.
@PoliticalHell Hrm, there are lots of things to complain about with any platform. you don't hear me complaining about the PC laptops that I've used aside from the fact that I universally hate all of their touchpads or about Windows.
I don't recall saying that Apple's HARDWARE or anything else that they said was perfect, without flaw or better than EVERY computer in the world at everything. In fact, I said the oposite, several, several times.
@sc0pl355 I know, and trust me, I have my fair share of complaints about PCs. I just don't necessarily think that Apple aced the design/build quality as well as they could have in certain departments. Isn't that what this debate was about, after all?
Anyway I didn't mean to stir up another war, just wanted to insert my opinion in the comments.
@PoliticalHell The debate is about what good or superior build quality is. They don't have to ace it, they just need a pair of kings or something. Anyhow, good build quality is largely subjective. To me, a small, light, laptop with a nice battery life that can perform all of my tasks, is a good laptop.
Also, I didn't take your statements personally. It is your opinion and you weren't trying to be insulting or anything like that. For what it's worth, I like my lombard much more than my MB.
(from 2) I actually have one of these G5's myself - the top of the line of the first batch (dual G5 2GHz). I've even seen the single 1.6 going for £58 whatever that is in U.S.dollars. Have to admire the mans sense of humour.
I thought they were discontinued in 2006 - I may be wrong.
@Westsound191 The last line of Powermac g5's were released in 2005. I think they were discontinued in 2006, that's why I corrected myself by typing that it has been out for at least 5 years.
Yeah, the part where he played Kost's voice was comical.
(from 1) So the worst thing left is the severe amount of scratching around the side (not to mention one piece of twisted aluminium at the front). Yet, when you look at the other side, there's hardly a scratch.
These G5's can be picked up dirt cheap these days, seeing as I think the newest is well nigh on 5 years old. To an unsuspecting anti-Apple audience, ADR has very cleverly taken advantage of the fact that Apple have hardly changed the design of the Mac Pro from its predecessor (Goto 3).
@Westsound191 Yeah, Powermac g5's are really cheap these days. I think I see them go for $500 on ebay
Personally, I would like to see Apple do some kind of design refresh on their Mac Pro's. The design that they have now was a necessary thing for the Powermac G5's. But they can do something to help it stand out a bit more.
@Westsound191 The design is nice, but they have been using it for about 8 years. That's longer than they used the g3-g4 design. I miss the old designs from the late 90's, personally. Well, not the fruity colors...
Anyhow, I like the design of my old lombard powerbook over my aluminum Macbook. That powerbook has a lot of curves to the case like a classic jaguar.
@sc0pl355 I'd certainly be interested to see a video of your powerbook. I only started using Apple products in 2002 (before then I wasn't using a computer at all). I must admit the first thing that got me interested in buying my iMac G4 was the design - wished they'd kept that for a little while longer.
Anyway - must get back to work. Once again, good upload & thumbs up.
Well, I was considering making a video. The Lombard was a nice looking machine that had a lot of features that Apple stopped using around the time you started using Macs. of course, the newer Macs are thinner and lighter than that old Powerbook. But that was an amazing machine in its day, imo.
Agreed - I may do a response myself once I'm done with my take on MvP arguments (nearly finished).
Unless I'm mistaken, every Mac Pro had 2 DVD slots on the front. Every P.Mac G5 only had one. Now anyone unfamiliar with either machine could be forgiven for thinking they were seeing a Mac Pro with a piece of aluminium that had snapped or something, whereas that is actually the bottom of the side panel that's supposed to come off (I mention that in case that's what people were thinking (Goto 2)).
@Westsound191 Yeah, G5's had only one slot in the front and I think only three expansion slots. I think they only held 2 hard drives too. I think a lot of the g5's design was dedicated toward keeping them cool because G5 processors run incredibly hot.
Well, in the video, the feet of the G5 were unseated or something.
@sc0pl355 Yeah I guessed - the lower side just looked incredibly mangled, making the slit at the bottom of the side panel look like it isn't actually supposed to be there lol. It even had me fooled for a few seconds.
Thumbs up . You already know my videos are a fuck around, you know me i take shit out of context sometimes (Audio) but it's all done for laughs BTW ill make a response to your video real soon

@menthol5 First off, your comment is off-subject from the video. You want to talk shit about jobs, go do it elsewhere. You have been warned.
"Steve Jobs had an agency speculate that workers were really killing themselves to support their families"
incorrect, that was Foxconn that said that. Not Steve Jobs or Apple.
"that working conditions had nothing to do with it."
The suicide rate per capita at Foxconn is a lot lower than the average suicide rate percapita in American colleges.
