  • Rushed the shit outta that didn't he?

  • See more of Steve Jordan on SoulDrummers . com.

  • Steve is tha man, this guy is playing music instead off showing off.

A lot of now a days drummer only show off ,you see kids with incredible fast single strokes but no i repeat no groove and feel for the music.

Steve is showing it over and over again :-)))))))))

  • I´m no drummer, but he´s got the feeling! i can hear a band played by one man

    why aren´t there more videos ? :(

  • this is a noob question but why does he hold it on the snare after he hits it. aren't you supposed to let it bounce?

  • @kweerb8 To get the desired sound. Keeping it on the snare will probably give him the compact groovy sound he wants. I can't know for sure, as I drum on an electric kit.

  • @kweerb8 some people like to deaden the note which sounds better in hip hop and funk stuff like this.

  • THE GROOOOOOVE IS HERE!!!!!!!!!! IN THE POCKET!!!! thank you Steve!!!

  • Pocket Central, and total Groove master, this guy taught me that less is more... and pocket is where it's at!

  • no wonder hes in the trio... could be the groovier version of the beatles... just sayin... it somehow came to be... that thr JM trio sound F***kin awesome...

  • Every once in a while when i feel i messed my mind up with too much technique, i come back to Jordan and it brings me back to what is more important: the groove.

  • @cassaerullante soo true!

  • @cassaerullante Word up to that! Steve brings the pocket and groove all day... Less is more most of the time.

  • is there any other footage of this?

  • I was pretty much completely unfamiliar with the music until I happened upon these guys while they were playing at my friend's band's cd release party (Pistolera). I must say I was blown away. The funk really anchors the grooves for the Baltic melodies and rythmns. Plus the brass is so powerful. Sadly Take, the snare drummer passed away not too long after this.

  • I'm a beginner, and I may never have the "chops" to pull off much speed or technique. To have the finesse of Steve Jordan, however, is worth much more in the end, I think.

  • You couldn't be more correct. Solid, pocket playing will get you much farther than flashy chops.

  • Thanks Kevin. I saw your "Slavic Soul Party" video-cool stuff! My relatives are from Eastern Europe, so I sort of have a soft spot for that type of music.

  • @kevinkmny Yeah man, there is one promo somewhere where theres a drummer playing like crazy stuff and one playing groove with a producer, and for the first one he goes like "you are amazing" & for the 2nd one "you are hired"

  • @kevinkmny Agree 110%.....Listening to Steve Jordan playing a groove is far more pleasing to the ear than listening to someone fly around the kit 60mph in my opinion.......it's about the feel and the funk for me and how good the drumkit sounds.......and Steve is the master of all three!!

  • @kevinkmny steve jordan is perfect example of that. Bernard Purdie to, he is the most recorded drummer of all time period, he dont to chops.

  • Man I wish there was more to this video

  • Nobody grooves like Mr. Jordan.

I have done about 10 covers of Steve Jordan's playing check it out if you're looking for something more about Steve.

  • the groove master!

  • idk man idk im gonna stick with gadd as the groove master no offense but steve is a very very close second

  • what do you think of Bozzio, or Vinnie Coliauta?

  • @4rainbowed in my opinion, coliata is a groove genius, bozzio is just a showoff

  • @4rainbowed Sounds right to me. I love the stuff Vinnie has done, esp. recently with Jeff Beck.

  • his grooves are so simple, yet he still adds so much energy and drive to the music.

    absolutely brilliant.

  • this dude keeps it steady...

  • I`m 110% sure that the snaredrum with the wooden rims is the 13 X 7 birch Akira Jimbo signature from yamaha......but,correct me if i am wrong...

  • It can be his own snare drum. it looks a lot like his signature.

  • I have just checked out yamahas homepage, and it looks alot more like his own signature with woodrims, so maybe you`re right!

  • it's his signature

  • thank you very much!

  • Ive noticed his snare has wooden rims? i believe... how come GC sells this same snare with metallic rims?? anyone can help? thanks

  • orginal = metal hoops.. he just changed it..

  • I love all this guy's work don't get me wrong - especially his recent work with John Mayer.

But it kinda bugs me how he holds his sticks. It's stupid, and doesn't make a difference to most people - but that just tickles my pickle.

  • You mean traditional grip?.... If you drum, you should try it, maybe you'll understand why people like it :) If not, I guess I understand haha.

  • I think he meant how high up he holds the stick in his right hand!

  • What a great drummer!! Do you know he played bass in the album of Arcadia "So red the rose"?

  • that"s a really cool little kit

  • Yay!!!Steve...this is really what drummers should only play:GROOVE,baby!!!!

  • Best there is! I love his playing he never wanks on with bullshit drum parts it's all about the song brilliant

  • google "leroy clouden" you can find another video from this clinic on aol video. leroy and steve do a duet jam

  • he was jammin at the end

  • steve jordan plays yamaha drums exclusively I dought that kit was just laying around at the collective he probobly brought it, Its only a kick a few snares a some hats and other cymbals why wouldn't he just bring it?

  • This guy never fails to blow me away.Every high profile musical event features him on drums and show production. Not only an incredible groove player but just as impressive on coaching those around him and bringing out their best.Modern day Benny Benjamin.

  • fantastic groove player.I love the way this guys plays!..No wonder many great artist love to work with him.Its all about groove baby!

  • The only thing that is important about your playing is what other professional musicians think, not kids on youtube or even other drummers. Steve is hired by the best, is making a great living playing, has endorsements by drum companies. That is success, kids always argue who is the greatest but that is what kids do, they don't know because they have not lived in the real world, they still live with mommy and daddy.

  • Steve Jordan craps awesomeness! One of the most amazing groove players ever. You've probably listened to an album recently he played on and you didn't even know it.

  • does ny 1 no what snare drum tht is

  • I think it's probably his Yamaha signature snare.

  • yeah, it's his signature snare from yamaha. i bought it and it's amazing. so poppy but you can tune it down as well. wood rims give rimshots that nice tone that SJ loves so much.

  • other than that second snare, the kit is probably whatever they had laying around at the collective

  • Steve Jordan plays beautiful drums, him and Timm Biery, Nils Lofgren Band, play beautiful drums

  • Steve Jordan is an amazing drummer. I love this groove. Check out the groove he does on the John Mayer Version of "I Got a Woman".

  • Steve jordan can fool you. He is so damn good that he makes it look easy. Check out steve when he was the original drummer on letterman......man he was a true prodigy.

  • Wtf man i search my name steve jordan i find this on google?

  • you should be proud of yur name indeed

  • simple,tight............groovy.

this aint easy,i cant play simple groove with some fill....my brain go like..just groovin, and my hand go like ...let fill somewhere over here and there.

  • I´m a guitar player but i know him from John Mayer Trio and the Clapton tour....he´s the power himself...sounds easy but i love the groove

  • simplicity is not stupidity.

  • Spikemytea... wouldn't playing a nice solid groove fall under the "HOW UP PLAY IT" category...everyone can play a groove but it is how you play that groove that determines a great drummer...

some people, always trying to sound so much more knowledgeable than others.

  • carillonic, it's not what you play, but HOW you play it. till you get that right, keep TRYing. lol.

    some people.

  • Steve Jordan is not the greatest drummer alive, he just has a nice solid groove going when ever he plays, that is what makes he so good.

  • He's the greatest funk drummer ever, Carrillonic. Let's put it that way.

  • First I love Steve's playing but there is no such thing as greatest this or that. Don't believe me? Ok, then find one professional drummer who says they are the greatest. If you spoke to Steve he would not claim to be the greatest funk drummer. When I read comments like that I think they were posted by a kid, not an adult or anyone who is mature. Professional drummers compliment and give credit to others, they don't claim to the be greatest.

  • it's more than that dude, most drummers can 'groove'. he understands drums. he knows what drums to use for a particular song and how to play them. check out his dvd he uses all diff drums, cymbals, tunings, muffling techniques, etc. playing extremely fast and technical won't get you anywhere but maybe a star on youtube. steve jordan has played with some of the biggest artists in the music biz cuz he makes memorable beats with room to breathe that make the music come to life

  • I agree 100% with you, njstylz. That's why he's such a major influence on my style.

  • do you know where to get the dvd?

  • Steve is one of the most talented musicians in the business.

  • dude steve jordan is the greatest there is rite now, im not saying if keith was alive he would be better, hes just the best alive

  • for any moron who feels that steve jordan is a bitch they should take the cock out of their mouth fist and go practise playing some real drums.

  • justinrinearson

    I'll kill u

  • PLEASE POST MORE STEVE JORDAN VIDEOS!!! I will watch them everyday I promise...

  • Check this *uking groove from Steve Jordan.

  • To the young man confused by the way Steve's holding his stick in his right hand: You'd play with the stick wedged down your jap's eye if you could get that much feel!

  • justinrunearson are you serious. It's STEVE JORDAN this dude couldn't be a bitch if he tried. Do your homework, and show some respect.

  • you lose

  • He holds his stick like only the REAL blues drummers do.

  • hahahahaha. what are you talking about?!?!?!?!

  • Dude, do you got any more of this! I love Steve's playing. Simply amazing!

  • It all starts with the groove and Steve has got it!

  • steve can groove like nobody's business...
