  • What a beautiful song!

  • She perfects emulating the seemingly inexplicable combined emotion of being lonely and being horny. She's amazing.

  • Holy crap, that's a good song.

  • Another enthralling performance from Ms Spektor.

This woman can do no wrong in my eyes. <3

  • I usually don't like live versions of songs, but her songs are better live then the recordings. That makes a true artist.

  • Who says you can't make a deep, meaningful, dirty song.

  • i love how the crowd starts off rowdy and as the song goes, it gets quieter and quieter because of how beautiful this song is.

  • Goosebumbs every time.

  • my favorite Regina song. Should be a famous classic.

  • I wanna be her mic!!!!!!!

  • I love how, the first time I hear a Regina song, I usually don't really like it, which seems odd. However, when I listen again a second or third time, I truly love it. I think it's because Regina's style is so different and unique, i have trouble sometimes finding the beauty in her lyrics and style, as each song is so unique, I have to accept and discover the true meaning and beauty every time I hear something new.

  • It's the saddest cleavage I've ever heard about. She is a genius.

  • in the next life i wanna be regina's keyboard

  • hahaha been hearing this but this time, i liked it.. why am i sooo slow?

  • She is a true artist. One of the many things I like about regina spektor is the fact that she writes her own songs, they come from her heart. Not some crappy pop songwriter who doesn't know how she feels. Along with her stunning voice she has meaningful lyrics that are true to her.

  • I so wish I could see her live, she is amazing!

  • @QueenSylvie94 She's more than amazing! I saw her live on last october, she's really RESPECkTor XD

  • this song talks about boners and cleavage and still manages to be really beautiful and heartbreaking.

  • YOUTUBE SHOULD HAVE A LOVE BUTTON!!!

  • CLEAVAGE, CLEAVAGE, CLEAVAGE

  • Love it!

  • The Background says barf?

  • I just realized that she talks about boners in this song. xD Great song nonetheless.

  • I'm not really big on lyrics; as a musician I feel like the context of the words is less important than the rhythmic and tonal qualities. However, this song is so wonderfully constructed, not only does it manage to create a beautiful melody, it creates a remote perspective that's humorous and morose at the same time. This song is almost like sitting in a bar, drinking yourself from sad to happy and then to even sadder.

It's like a Gobstopper of emotion...

  • 32 people are messed up in the head

  • word choices could be bettterr

  • @ArjanTheGunslinger What do you mean by "word choices"?

  • @Astrapsody im no pro but i think some of the words just dont flow well with the beat of the music

  • @ArjanTheGunslinger In Regina's songs, there often isn't any particular "beat" to her music. From what I've seen, she makes her songs much less methodical in her live performances.

  • hilairious. why can't all american chicks be this cool? :D

  • @AriyaMetteyya

Maybe cos she's Russian (by birth, she's an American citizen)

    @ArjanTheGunslinger

The 'character' of the song is supposed to be drunk i reckon, the lyric and arrangement always makes me think of tom waites.

  • Regina is so convincing as a male, even with a sweet voice like hers. She's a story teller.

  • Her face at 1:55 has so much passion, you can really tell how much she feels the music in her body. It gives me chills.

  • I love this version so much better than the album's. Her voice is so much more expressive here, making the song exponentially more painful and beautiful.

If ever there was a Siren's voice in existence, it's hers. All one has to do is hear her and sadness melts away. :)

  • she's so young she's so god damn young

  • she's so serious but the lyrics are so funny...only regina

  • Regina's music can make you laugh and also cry. Love her music, it is so charming!!

  • is she somehow related to Phil Spektor?

  • @PaulXPZ I don't think lol

  • I've probably watched this performance 57 times, it's so touching and beautiful ! ! !

  • I seriously think I'm going to name my daughter Regina. Regina is "Queen" in Latin. She is a queen. And she's everythign I would want to be, and I would love my daughter to be. Not the exact same, obviously, but her confidence, intelligence, humbleness, beauty and kindness that Regina has is what I would teach her.

  • I love the smile she gives at the end, so heart-warming :) Regina is beautiful, and everything she touches becomes beautiful too. She is amazing :)

  • This was before sherecorded it?? Awesome.!!!

  • Wow. You know someone's music is pure and amazing when even the youtube comments are polite! I mean someone apologised for accidentally giving a thumbs down! Regina spektor's just so uplifting and happy. I love it :)

  • I love how you could just read her lyrics and think it was a poem. Amaazing artist.

  • nothing like this before

  • Her accent. Is. So. Cute!!!! :D

  • there's so much passion in her voice.. it just hits straight to your heart and life is good again

  • i didnt mean to give your comment a thumbs down sorry! my mouse slipped, i agree completely with what you're saying - her music is beautifully uplifting.

  • haha no worries!

  • Perfect timing. Lovely song.

  • she is so much different than the crap you hear on the radio that you just gotta luv her...

  • I love her! her voice is absolutely amazing. and i love practically all of her songs...!

  • she needs to do somthing with tomwaits

  • Interesting. Good sense of humour and great observations about some people. Regina is great.

  • i liked this song so well i thought i'd perform it at an open mic last night. unfortunately i'm a fairly ugly 50 year old man, and, well, they let me get away with the "cleavage, cleavage, cleavage.." line, but by the time i got to the part about rubbing up against strangers til i felt like coming.... they crowd started kinda creeping out. FYI - you gotta be a pretty good looking young lady to pull this song off.

    love you regina.

  • lol

    i'm so sorry :)

  • Another "new" song sung quite early :O Explain people...

  • I believe it is referred to as "prodigious writing skill."

Very few of the songs on Regina's albums are new.

  • i keep trying to generalize things about Regina, but it never works, cuz everytime i hear a new song, my old assumption is blown to pieces... she's so unpredictable, and throws me out of my normal.

  • Your so right, she's never predictable. I always say she writes like a Beatle. Each song is so different from another song. Before I discovered her I used to say The Beatles didn't fit a category. That they were their own genre. I didn't think I'd live to see another artist that would cause me to say the same thing. I didn't think someone was capable of blowing me away like that again. Big words I know, but I think with her that's actually happening.

  • you know, even being a huge beatles fan, i never made that connection before. But it's really true. I think your right

  • don't get me wrong dear,

    i think in general

    i'm doin' quite

    fine

it's just when it's summer in the city, and you're so long gone from that city, i start to miss you, baby

    sometimes

    i start to miss you.

    baby

    sometimes

  • Marry me Regina

  • I fucking love this song.

  • She sounds just as good live as on her CD's and thats one reason why I love her!

  • i thought this was a sad song;

    now i know it's not

  • I think it's a sad song. The thing I love about her and that makes her unique is the fact that even in a serious song, she will throw in funny things. One line will make you want to laugh, then the next line will make you want to cry. In this song its "cleavage, cleavage, cleavage." In Ode to Divorce: "won't you help a brother out." The fact that I get chills from that line is a huge testament to the fact that she can come up with such emotional melodies and atmospheres. Great songwriter.

  • this is like one of the caberet club cut scenes from GTA IV

  • she felt like coming , but also felt like crying

    i want her.

  • I think she's singing from a males perspective. Listen to it from that point of view it makes sense.

  • Wow, I've only just discovered this girl here in this video. Wow! She's fantastic.

  • this is my favourite song by regina. wonderful performance of it here.

  • So beautiful!

  • god she's so adorable

  • I like it at concerts when people don't scream their heads off during the song so that no one can hear the singer. But this one didn't have that thank goodness.

  • i love that she is so humorous and heartfelt at the same time. i never recognized the humor in this song just from hearing it on her album. i love her live.

  • reminds me of jeff buckley

  • This song is amazing. I love it, it's funny and witty, nothing new for Regina, but it also is so emotional. Again, nothing really new for her, but both of these factors make this one of her best. I can so relate with the emotion though, so maybe that's really why I love it.

  • CANT WAIT FOR HER NEW ALBUM

    "FAR"

  • aww she looks so young here=]

i luv her music, and hope she continues to grow at her own pace..

  • oh brilliant. I would kill to see her back in 2004 when people wouldn't annoyingly sing along so loudly that you can't even appreciate her artistry.

  • i start to miss you...sometimes

  • ha, that...has got to be... the most closeminded thing I've ever heard about music. Lets take someone who doesn't necessarily sound like everyone else and write them songs so they will sound like everyone else... what a great idea! Lets also all stop thinking for ourselves and expressing it through artistic venues! Idiot.

  • hehhehhehehe

  • I love Regina's songs. The lyrics seem so deep and meaningful. She says things in her songs that most of us feel or imagine but never say. Her talent does lie in song-writing as well and I doubt I would like her music so much if someone else was writing for her. The lyrics are different, interesting, and spark the imagination - it's all part of her charm. I never thought of her songs as shocking, perhaps because I've heard it all before - but never put so eloquently to beautiful music.

  • @Letishia 'She says things in her songs that most of us feel or imagine but never say.' Yes, I think that's right.

  • @Letishia I KNOW RIGHT I LOVE HERRR!! (: No Homo :D

  • regina spektor

  • she's just brilliant. total genius.

  • I love how she says "corner."

    Corna.

  • I love how she says "personal things" in a drunk way. It's all these little details that make her music even better.. can't wait to see her live next week :)

  • Yes, sometimes she says "p" like "b"

    Bersonal things, lol.

A Russian/Bronx accent is not something you hear every day.

  • Amoooo

Várias musicas incríveis e essa é uma delas...de arrepiar

  • amazing<3

  • summer in the city means cleavage cleavage cleavage! haha she never fails to make me laugh! shes great!

  • Listen to REGINA SPEKTOR's name read by the audio preview man hahaha

  • LMAOOO. hahahaa oh gosh. lol

  • why did she sing this song so fast?

  • I like her music because there is humor to be found in it.Ex is the"cleavage, cleavage..."

  • me too listen to ghost of corporal future

    it's a humorous song :)

  • hahah she is so cute "ok, so i do have another summer song, i lied the first time"

  • She's so bloody talented, that some people can't even understand the longing, the beauty and the poetry in her songs. Maybe her songs are not for anyone but I think that makes them even more brilliant!

  • i completely agree with you, her songs really are not for everyone.

  • Well I guess I'm one of the less brilliant because I love her and understand her, and have the longing and get the beauty and the poetry, and maybe that's even a stage of brilliance above the one you even mentioned.

  • awesome...

  • i <3 this song, its so beautiful

  • she sounds all shy lol and then she speaks realy dirty

but shes my fav singer cause shes so talented

  • reginas personality and attitude is so cute you never expect her to have dirty lyrics (although she often does)

    i like this on

'they want to feel the bulges in their pants start to rise'

she sort of slips it in

even though its a little bit perveted, when regina sings it she makesd it amazing

like her everything else that comes out of her mouth!

  • I love the "cleavage cleavage cleavage"double entendre, hehe..the character in the song has left his/her lover, they have been cleaved, but it provokes the audience, um, as demonstrated here. genius!

  • actually it feels quite leonard cohen XD

  • AHHHH. COHEN!

  • best lyrics i've heard in quite a while

  • I FUCKING LOVE REGINA SPEKTOR!

  • probably the best regina performance ever? amazing

  • This is my favorite Regina song <3

  • SHES SO CUTE :O

  • haha i love it

  • i start to miss you baby sometimes... she has such a pretty voice

  • she sound like a female marc bolan???

    nice tho...

  • she's lovely

  • Summer in the city mean clevage clevage clevage :L :L :L classic

  • She is so brilliant.

  • this is like her most sexual song. hahaha

  • avery nice a high five

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song & her.

  • This girl is talented. Wish I could've been there.

  • This song has meant alot to me lately. More specifically, this week.

    Regina Spektor consoles me.

  • why does youtube post the comments all in a hullabaloo?

  • This song is absolutely, by far, my favorite Regina Spektor song. She puts so much of her heart into the performance. You can definitely tell that this song means a lot to her.

  • her

  • I love the way the public laughs with the first 'cleavege, cleavege, cleavege', but then gets extremely quiet when she starts going on about what the song really is about.

I think this is what she meant when she wrote this song; to catch people listening off gueard first, and the make them see the meaning behind the song.

    Go Regina!

  • i love the way she speaks.

  • Whenever I go vacations, this song is the first one that I listen to on the plane. It's truly beautiful. Her songs are easy to relate to, so simple and yet so powerful. Truly, a pure artist.

  • I love her cover of Real Love.

  • It's a free country...

  • Which is why you posted your comment, and I posted mine. We get it.

  • Cleavage! Cleavage! Cleavage!

  • this song causes actual physical pain to me. i clicked on it, and i had to go sit down and cry.

my best friend died september last year and his sister sent me an emai tellinng me, i thought she was kidding, and then i called his house to see if he was home, i spent an hour bawling my eyes with his dad, and this was the song i listend to over and over again, like, over 500 times straight for months after he died. then just now i came and clicked on it, and he fucking died all over agian.

  • This song is quite special to me too. I remember listening to it the first week I started college (summer school). Although my experience with it is different, I understand how revisiting this song of hers can bring back strong emotions. It's just truly authentic!

  • Im really sorry for your loss. I wouldnt know what to do if my best friend died.

  • Lol she is such a joker what a lovely woman

  • I think this is at the barfly in Camden?

If so...I was there and met her she is so lovely.

  • great song

    i love Regina !!!

  • I listen to this song every night to get to sleep. It's funny that the title is Summer in the City, and she says it is summery like Folding Chair, but I've always thought it sounds wintery. I love it. I love her!

  • sHE'S A QUEEN

  • such a poignant song

  • i love regina spektor

and this is my favorit song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't think she's any prettier than an average girl from the crowd, but the way she sings and the natural charm she's gifted with make her beatiful.

  • you dont deserve this many thumbs down. it is a fair comment and i kinda agree though she does have some kind of special beauty

  • Thanks, it's nice of you, but I ignore faceless peoples' opinion, who cares if they disagree me?

Besides, it is a well-known fact, I also studied it in my psychology class, that if somebody loves a person, but doesn't actually knows his/her personality, he clothes that person with the best attributes, though some of these might be false.

They love Regina, so if one says something not fitting to their idealistic persuasion, gets thumbs down.

  • I agree with you :), it's a different kind of beauty she has.,and wtf 6 thumbs down.

  • It always gives me goosebumps to hear a musician speak of things that I experience and think every day. The narrative of this song is like a day in my life in my city...

  • OMG !!!

  • God she is so beautiful.. she takes my breath away..

  • I loved the cleavage, cleavage, cleavage!

  • this song is so beautiful

i can play it on the piano :)

  • Regina is amazing... I can't play piano.. or even sing... LET ALONE TOGETHER... lol.

    She's amazing live. :)

  • i love her. she's amazing, and her connection with the audience is amazing. her music and voice is beautiful, and soothing, but theres humor is unexpected places. and sometimes, i think she has this 'blues' feel to her voice. its great.

  • shes sooo good. i wish that i could play piano and sing at the same time. i cant even play piano. i can sing though.

  • Once I went to a concert (some old chamber music, dunno why) and the guy playing told me off for clapping after the song. Now that's anal. I dont think anyone detyracted from the song here by laughing a little...

  • I think her smile is really expressing the bitterness and sadness of the song and I totally agree that she was intending to make this goofy expression first to show the developing emotions in the song ( I mean the cleavage part)
