  • Thanks for your informative video. I'd be interested to see a video on OCR (optical charadter recognition) of handwritten material. A reviewer on Amazon stated that it works very well. Also, I wonder if there's any hope of it being able to handle hand written mathematical symbols like an integral sign with limits. It would be nice to see a video to see how it hanldle this case.

  • @jonesr227 I don't have the time to do a video on that but i tested it and it doesn't work very well for mathematical equations. You can leave them in ink but converting them to text doesn't work well at all.

It usually relies on a dictionary for when you are writing words so that's why the recognition is very good; with mathematical equations it has to figure out which symbol you write everytime.

So it's very good OCR... but for words only.

  • You have a Kermit voice

  • What microsoft office version does it come with?

  • @MentalReserve It comes with 2010 i believe. but only a trial ((get openoffice, its free and good alternative)

  • @60spaure BS, Openoffice is no replacement for MS Office. You get what you pay for.

  • @NasherDezno LOL of course you do, and i prefer office BY A LARGE MARGIN. xD But not everyone wants to pay 200$ to write documents and do presentations; openoffice is an alternative.

  • @60spaure There should be a bundle which contains onenote. Also a nice thing (best thing) about office 2010 is the digitizer (pen) support.

  • I am the dbc80 who requested this video. Afterwards I bought the EP121. And I cannot say anything negative about this tablet or program. It is just what I need for school to do notetaking. In spite that I have a normal notebook at home, I use my EP121 as my primary computer. It just does it all.

  • @dbc80 Nice I just can't wait to buy mine :P

  • Great tutorial, man! Thanks a lot for this review. Could you please review the Office-like app? especially for opening / handling Excel files. Thanks!!

  • @CxRax read the video description

  • why does it look so laggy when you scroll? It looked smooth on other demos.

  • @PwnforceFrank

    Look in the video description.

  • is there anyway you can extend the batterylife on this thing ?

  • @roffpoff Well you can buy external battery packs but the thing is you need to get the right tip. It's doable though. But again do you want to bring a secondary battery with you all the time?

Battery life and small storage space are the two downsides of the unit...

  • @60spaure thanks , i am looking towards the day i can take a tablet with me for note taking , made for real people , in the real world.

  • @60spaure Thanks, that is a solution , Iam also worried about the non-removable battery , and battery degradation. I am just trying to find the tablet with the best inking experience, what you did in the video seems promising.

  • "You can see that the letters are crisp and they do not look like...shit." Hahahaha

  • @piratesmvp hahaa i was about to say that

  • Lol i have that avatar book

  • I would have liked to seen handwriting recognition. Sure in math class you'll draw the triangle and whatnot, but taking notes, I can't barely read my own handwriting. I rather have the computer turn it into text. My problem is most tablets are bad at keeping up with my writing, don't have good palm rejection, and aren't comfortable to write on. Comments?

  • @VideoWolfe It keeps up very very well with the writing (mine atleast) and my writing kind of sucks. Not extremely bad though. Even my friends have tried it and writing at normal speed (not rushing) provides something near 90% accuracy. But if you're not to use your handwriting, just use a regular notebook that you can type on.

It's okay to take notes, but if you're to change to real letters it'd be faster AND easier to use a conventional laptop. OR just use the keyboard that comeswiththeslate.

  • @60spaure So then what's the point? If you think a normal laptop is faster/better, does that mean a tablet-laptop is only really useful to artists and the like?

  • @VideoWolfe It proves to be the most useful in classes like Math and Physics since you need to write formulas, sketch things and do diagrams. In other classes, either use the external keyboard or get a laptop; you probably type faster than you write and what you're aiming to is top productivity. :) It's not always a better option to type than to write. That's what I'm trying to say. In those situations the slate is better.

It's not only for artists; its for everybody withtheneedtowritedigitally

  • Actually you can use a cell phone camera to take pictures of your papers instead of the scanner and send it using Bluetooth to the tablet.

  • Seeing how people usually talk in classes, it is NOT audible. The fan is very quiet and the noise that people make make up for it. The sound of typing on a keyboard is way more distractive than the fan. So don't worry 'bout that :P

Btw I am using it in high school and I love it. It works really well. One of my friends even bought one after seeing mine in class because of how well it works! ^^

  • Im planning on using one of these as my notebook for school. My only concern is how loud are the fans in it. Is it even audible. Would it be considered distracting?

  • LMAO! it looks like your writing with Parkinson lolololol

  • @teknotk -.- try writing while holding a camera and making sure it shoots the right thing. lol

  • Do you call that monster a "portable scanner"???

  • @harbime It fits in my bag so yes :D

I now just use a small digital camera though. Much more convenient.

  • how is converting ur notes on the asus tablet to your PC than converting it to word or one note and passing it in, and does one note have software that can recognize math and equations convert them to text and become printable?

please im trying to upgrade my learning by using tech so if u can help that would be great

  • my tablet hdd is full. can i use the SD card for onenote to save directly to?

  • @emoindiechav Not that I know of since Onenote would only use it as a backup and would still save the notebooks on the computer's SSD. Unless there is a workaround but haven't found one and been searching a solution a little while ago. If you find a workaround please tell me.

  • @60spaure there is a hack to do this. if you want I can send you the link? can I ask, do you think i should get a screen protector? I am buying a foilio case.. but I dont want the stylus to scratch the screen.. do you think it will scratch? or will be fine without? thankyou for your advice

  • @emoindiechav

I would be very happy if you could send me the link and I would even mention it in the video description since the tablet doesn't have a lot of onboard memory and a good bunch of people use OneNote with it it could be very useful. :)

The tablet comes with a case (just in case you didn't know) so I don't think you would need to get another one unless for specific reasons. I don't think the stylus will scratch the screen; it has not scratched mine and I'm not using a screen prot.

  • @emoindiechav (not enough place in other post) If you are planning to draw outdoors then you will NEED a matte screen protecteur since in bright sunlight it is not usable outside. But I wouldn't put a protector on the screen since it's Gorrila Glass which is very scratch resistent and way more durable than a standard Tablet PC monitor. Why protect a glass which was specifically made to protect itself? :P

Would I recommend the unit after months of use? Certainly. No doubts, I would buy itagain:)

  • I so love what you did

Can you convert your one note files into word format? How?

  • @TheMonsantiago Right in OneNote, you can save an entire notebook or page as a .docx document in the "Save as" section. If you want to convert to PDF, you can use PDFCreator for free.

If you have any other questions just let me know. :) Thanks for the comment.

  • Hey, I saw that this tablet comes with "refill nibs" and i was wondering: why do you need to replace the nibs in the pen?

  • @Ana74Banana After a while whey can become used as they are only made of plastic. BUT you shouldn't need to replace one before a year or so with this tablet (since the screen is a glass). What's cool though is that you can get some nibs from the Wacom website like hard felt nibs and different kinds to your liking. I prefer to use the standard ones for writing and hard-felt for drawing. :)

  • How about battery life? Do u take it to classes? I heard battery life is poor...

Another question regarding outdoors usability, have u tried it outdoors?

  • thank you so much! your review is very helpful to me!

    2 questions :

    1. can you use a virtual keyboard with OneNote?

    2. on OneNote - if you lean your hand on the screen while hand writing, does it leave any marks on the note?

    thank you very much!

  • @KimGal1760

You're very welcome? Yes you could use a virtual keyboard with OneNote but I wouldn't see the point since I think the Microsoft virtual keyboard is useless because I really can't type fast on it and I touch the wrong keys. Handwriting to text recognition would be faster than writing with on-screen keyboard and it'd give the same final product.

  • @60spaure

Sorry for the "?" in the other message, I meant a "!". In onenote your palm will not interfere and leave marks on the note, but sometimes in Photoshop the hand interferes a bit so when using photoshop I just disable the touch input in the configuration pannel.

But in onenote I never had any issue, yes you can lean your hand on the screen.

If you have any other question don't hesitate to ask me and if you want me to show something with the tablet just tell me. :)

  • @KimGal1760

When you type touch you can't leave your hands on the Screen, just the fingers that you type with

  • @jimmyyuiy

There is a bit of glare, especially if you're indoors and there is a light reflected by the screen but usually this isn't much of a problem. I tried using it outdoors once and I was surprised that the screen was still pretty much readable.

But I'm not a glare-hater guy and it never bothered me much. I'll DO A VIDEO of the unit in different light conditions so you can see it by yourself :P I'll post it sometime soon.
