  • Silat reminds me a lot of Kung Fu in it's circular movements and unconventional moves. However, all these played out scenarios do not work in real life from my experience. It's the quickest, most effective move that will win you the fight.

  • @123UncleRuckus just like any art, these sequences are for ideas to practice, then later freeflow, then later spar with no cooperation. these moves will not play out in same order, but through feeling you will recognize a lock when fighting if having first learned options and variables etc. Indonesians were occupied by Dutch and fought for real, theirs no doubt the systems work, but theirs baby steps then their walking and running when training. These are baby steps giving drills to work on. THX

  • @shifudan Silat sucks. The Dutch would shit kick Indonesia if they were to fight now.

  • @123UncleRuckus which silat, all few thousand systems, lol its like saying a certain food sucks, different taste for everyone no point in arguing, everyone do whats best for them, i have seen people from every art who can fight, its individuals, not arts. Plenty street fighters dont train any art. I agree that many systems seem to have no concept of reality fighting etc, but the guy in the vid surely knew how to fight,as do many others out their. Peace

  • @shifudan Silat in general, every single one.

  • @123UncleRuckus its all good, i dont try to convince anyone, i respect all views, their must be a reason that guys like shooto champion eric paulson, bjj blackbelts like dan inosanto and burt richardson, shoot fighter ron balicki etc etc, all have respect for silat as well, as those guys are all Muay Thai and MMA guys as well. I respect all arts, but being individuals is what important, and i appreciate you sharing your view . .Peace

  • @123UncleRuckus would be not fighting at all?

  • @Thetruthisdirect Sometimes you can't talk your way out of things. People seem to think everyone is just reasonable and ready to negotiate. You can run, or you can defend yourself up to you.

  • @123UncleRuckus maybe if you didn't put your self in that situation in the first place it can be avoided. You can do what ever you want you don't have to do something if you don't want to.

  • @Thetruthisdirect You're telling me you've never been in a situation where an aggressive person has challenged you or has even tried to attack you out of the blue? It's called mugging and it happens all the time. Hell, drunkards always challenge others at the local bar and sometimes you cant talk em out of it. I could understand your ignorance if youve been living under a rock your whole life and have not had interaction with humans before. You haven't have you?

  • @Thetruthisdirect so wouldn't that be knowing your surroundings instead of being a retard who walks with out knowing whats around him?

  • i definitly agree him and his wife were great people as they were martial artist i remember watching my father train at the seminars when he wud come to NY

  • we do continue his teaching via Bambang Suwanda and the annual summer camp , check out sundasilat clips and my site under the same name.

    mahalo

  • I was lucky enough to attend two of his seminars a few years before he passed. He was just the coolest guy and an absolute master of his game.

    R.I.P. Pak Herman

  • So sad that Master Suwanda passed so young. What a sad thing that he lost his life. The way he died was also terrible....terrible. Life is so unfair to so many great and kind and humble people such as he and his wife. Tragic loss.

At the very least...we have his legacy and his lessons in the art he loved so so much to share with the world.

  • Pa Herman is the man

  • hati2 di klaim malaingsia

  • hentikanlah..

  • Is that Pa Herman?

  • I have met ibu Suwanda, I have been to her seminar in England! a bundok across the neck thats got to hurt!

  • cisalak ... depok

  • Who is much more senior? The late Master Herman or Master Dadang?

  • Silat is not from any other art. Silat's focus is different, but is similar to aiming at the LIMBS of the attacker. Its further development is from spiritual origins thru Zikar, and from possession. Its Jurus can multiply as it progresses, and Eskrima/Kali;s fundamentals also multiply such. The Silat word itself is from Sifat Kilat, as told by Yusuf Siregar the Harimau/Syahbandar master who is now gone from our world. Assalamalaikum !
  • guroeskrima, it is not proper to use Yusefs name or what he said about the Silat in a public forum.

  • the world is universal, and there are no secrets. martial arts belongs to us all

  • I am with you. I have been practicing martial arts for 15 years ( I don't consider myself as an expert or a master at all ) and I am very happy when I can share my very little knowledge with other people. The ignorance is the real enemy we have got to fight.

  • mugia teu hilap kana purwadaksi

  • good martial art, deadly locks and smart moves too! may ALL pesilat unite!!

  • deathlock

  • A lengend indeed. RIP.

  • Although a few styles/systems of FMA have silat undertones, calling it the mother of FMA is quite a stretch. FMA is too vast to enable anyone to pinpoint a sole origin.

  • A SILAT LEGEND!

  • Glad you realise that. Actually the original silat is very ancient knowledge whose origin is kept secret and is independent of ANY Buddhism,Hindu or Islamic influence contrary to popular belief. Not many Malays know that BTW, even some gurus didn't know that cos silat has diversified by "adapt andimprovise". Some are concerned that teaching to non-Malays might "dilute" it even further cos the fine subtleties are less evident nowadays among learners.

  • mind ur own business pls malaysian

  • uhmmm... you've got some right and wrong......

since there are so many silat.... how come you know where IT ALL(ALL!!) BEGAN

i do respect your knowledge... but please don't break the relationship of one silat to another....

we have the same objektive... to defend ourselves, so let SILAT LIVE AND LOVE SILAT!!!

(don't break up each other by saying whose right and wrong, we do not know where it all really began so, let's just keep up the tradition)

    LIVE SILAT!!!

  • I'm with you. Every indigenous culture had self defense systems before writing systems. Origins are lost to history.

  • Thanks for all your posetive feedback on Guru Besar Herman's video, he was one of a kind, and I am glad people recognize his skill.

  • You were fortunate to have had the opportunity to study w/ Herman Suwanda.

Do you have any more videos of Pak Herman of this quality which you are willing to post?

    You have obviously studied deeply.

  • Thanks for the great video!

  • this looks more like Indoneisian Silat

  • Nice--much better with FMA knife.

  • its great to have the chance to see that person in video...

  • Hebat euy Pa Suwanda pendekar ti cimande cianjur....pokokna jawara alias pendekar tea....

  • Nice Danny. Thanks for posting this.

    Pa, we miss you.

  • Wow! This is great! Thanks for sharing!

  • He was an Awesome Man,A Master of Masters.

  • Pak Suwanda was one of the most masterful yet humble teachers I'd ever met. He had an incredible gift for sharing his culture and art to all people. His smile and laughter lit up the room. Terima Kasi for sharing this!

  • Pak Suwanda was dynamic. Nice to see his art living.

  • I worked with Suwanda a few times while he was alive.

  • Nice Demonstration of fluid training material.
