lol. oh heavens to murgatroid he's funny

  • That tune was Down By The Riverside. It was also used by McDonald'd in the early 70's.The tune was written just after the Civil War.

  • exit...stage left

  • Remove him physicaaaaaally! Wonderful, thanks.

  • My cat is named murgatroid

  • ...and because of Lahr's insistance that Butler receive screen credit on these ads, it was (virtually) the only time a voice-over artist was officially credited for his work during the commercial! And you can be sure that MORE advertisers and producers remembered his name as well.....

  • Snagglepuss rulez, no question about it!

  • For The Record:

First, the song was set to the tune of "Dow By The Riverside",

Second, note the end credit "Snaglepuss voiced by Daws Butler". This was done to keep the legal eagles off Kellogg's & Hanna-Barbera's backs, as they were told Bert Lahr (The Cowardly Lion in THAT movie) took umbrage for the voice being parodied...and being mistakenly known for Snag's voice by fans..

This hilarious clip shoulda won a Clio award...or at least have been considered.

    Thanx, m8..

  • Great commercial. Another one I haven't seen in 45 years.

  • heavens i am a Murgatroyd

  • The song sounds like the old gospel song "down by the riverside". I also wonder why the people went on stage when they ran over Snagglepuss.

  • ahhhhh! SNAGGLEPUSS! HELP!!!

  • This is a 1963 spot for Cocoa Krispies {shown extensively on "YOGI BEAR" and "HUCKLEBERRY HOUND"}, as Snag is capitalizing on the "hootennany" folk music craze so prevalent at the time.....

  • true, and the song could either be "down by the riverside" or maybe "pay me my money down"

  • heavens to murgatroid the video is wonderful, fantastic even!
