Strangely enough, it depends on who you ask. Some people think it's just Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. Most tend to include Finland and Iceland though. If anything, they're all called the Nordic states at least.

Norwegian people are not very cold, some of them are snobbish but others does all they can to help people in poorer countries. I made a short doujinshi based on a historical event (not well known really...) where Norway meets Japan and drinks sake. I'll send a link to it when I have scanned it , and laid it out at DA.

Well, they're closest geograpihically, but I still think that Sweden and Finland have even closer relations, since Sweden ruled Finland for centuries and we still use Swedish as the second official language. But you have your opinion and I have mine. ^^ Just a thought that crossed my mind.

I don't know which specific school you mean, but I bet there are a lot of Swedish-Finnish elementary schools in Finland. About Sweden I don't know. There are also bilingual high schools.

The songs lyrics match Finnish-Swedish history quite well in my point of view: "Tell them it's me that made you sad", Finland belonged to Sweden for a long time, but even after we went to Russia, Sweden kept bugging us; "Speak proper language like Swedish, Finland is rubbish.", and even to this day we have to learn Swedish, but they don't need to learn Finnish. Unfair in a way :P

Finland isn't a part of Scandinavia, but don't worry, it's a common mistake. Finland is a part of FENNO-Scandinavia. Plain Scandinavia consists Denmark, Norway and Sweden...But you can include Finland and Iceland by saying Nordic Countries. :3 But don't argue over it anymore, mmkay?

Funny... I've always thought that Finland is part of Scandinavia. However it's not (check wikipedia if you don't believe). It's because Denmark, Norway and Sweden share a mutually intelligible language, ethnic composition and have close cultural and historic bonds.

Yeah for us it's pretty much "pohjoismaat" (nordic countries). I'm actually used to talk about Finland as a part of Scandinavia. I don't remember learning at school that we aren't part of it. o_o

Anyway I can understand why those countries are linked together. Our language is so much more different from all those three languages. For example Swedish and Danish people can talk with each other on their own language. But that doesn't mean we aren't linked to nordic countries. :)

In history the country of Denmark very stubborn about its possession of Norway but also that Sweeden was EXTREMELY over protective of the country of Finnland. Just because you think it's stupid doesn't mean you should say its stupid to people who actually like it D: Instead word it nicer like "I don't really understand it" or "I personally don't like it." I agree with you in a modern point of view. But if you think historically, Fin was a part of Swe for 600 years, and Nor was a part of Den. Nor and Swe hasn't had that much of an historical realtionship, it's something recent to hate on each other. I guess it's because of our similar languages, Swe think norweigan sounds weird and I'm guessing Nor feels the same about swedish. So at least I think that Swe and Fin has a closer realtionship historically, though not as close in modern times.
